Trim trimminy trim trim tcheree! I got my between waist length and BSL length hair trimmed today, just asked for an inch off. My hair feels wonderful now, although I can still find some split ends, the damage isn't so obvious anymore, and I can probably cope until my next trim by dusting.
I must say, my fair looks/feels lovely, but has less drama about it, if anyone knows what I mean. It hadn't been cut in 2 years, so it was all..natural at the ends, as well as damaged. Now it's a lot more uniform in length, and more mundane looking. I'm definitely going to have to look into henna-ing my hair, I need drama back!

fragile hair My hair is being extremely fragile lately, as in when I detangle it (gently, with my fingers) I get lots of short pieces as well as complete strands. It's just short of BSL, though fine and curly enough that it looks much shorter - a little longer than in the icon picture, which is about two years old.. It's not as thick as I'd like, or as it was when I was 18, but twenty-some years on the pill plus simple aging probably account for that. It doesn't look too thin but my ponytail is <1" across. I've been treating it reasonably well; the only time I've dyed it was when it was less than an inch long, so there's no hair on my head that's seen dye, I've never had a perm, and I never blowdry (never have, my hair only gets heat-dried when I go for cuts). On the other hand, the last couple of years have featured massive stress, and the drastic changes in climate and foods that come from not one but two intercontinental moves, from Arizona's deserts to the Netherlands in fall '06 then to Taiwan's muggy subtropics in fall '07. Not to mention visits to anout 12 other countries along the way.
I do not want to cut it Halle Berry short until such time as Im settled near a stylist I trust, but I'm beginning to think that maybe I should just get it cut somewhere between chin and shoulders. That would have all the advantages of long hair in that I could still pull it in a ponytail for sports or pull the top back in a barrette or go without a cut for months if necessary without that being obvious.
Advice is welcome, if you can think of anything useful to suggest. Mostly I'm just dithering, and figured I'd do it in front of people who would understand the dilemma.
ETA: Thanks for the advice. I don't brush it, and haven't regularly for well over a decade. (Maybe a couple times a year, just because I like the feeling.) | | 11:03p |
Product review. ( product picture and web site description )I paid $6 per bottle for this at Walmart. I bought it because it smells WONDERFUL. It's aweful. The worst I've ever used. I have hair nearly to my tailbone, straight, medium thickness, blond. I used it for about 2 weeks, I wash and condition my hair about every other day, sometimes 3 days in between. My hair was sooo dry and CRUNCHY and split ends flying everywhere. My sister in law ran her hands down my hair a couple of times and asked why it was so dry and weird. AAARRRGGG!!! I have some split ends, but they are soft and not noticeable normally. I only used this for so long because I am so stinkin broke right now I don't have two quarters to rub together. So new new stuff isn't a priority. I grabbed my kids Suave Coconut shampoo and conditioner and used that instead. And last night I gathered up all my conditioner samples that I've gotten in the mail, slathered and braided my hair and left it in all night. In summery: Avoid. Unless you like crunchy hair. |
