Does anybody know where there is a good shop to buy some fossils, minerals or gemstones? I'm looking to buy my mum a birthday present and she loves the stuff.

Alternatively, if anyone knows a decent shop that sells collectable coins, that would do nicely.

Anyone else in Kilburn? Can you hear that horror movie noise? Like metallic, rushing water, and loud screeching like swinging metal. I know Kilburn is a shithole, but I didn't think we had the Lost monster here as well.

So...I am looking to find a store perhaps similar to something like sephora where I can get a good moisturizer...my skin has begun behaving differently in this climate [I'm from southern California, see...] and I need a different moisturizer, preferably something organic [just because its better for my skin, not because i'm an organic-nazi] =]

also, if they had makeup, might not be bad, as I'm not really a shopper, and 2 birds one stone type deals thrill me =]

Beer In the Evening Review - A lot of reviews from IRLers that I'm not going to copy/paste.

Fancy a Pint Review - "From April 2008 Popular J D Wetherspoon pub in Chancery Lane, next to the Law Society. This used to be the Union Bank and the main banking hall forms a very large, high-ceilinged, public bar that is choc-a-bloc at lunchtime with hungry lawyers and a few students from Kings College. Lovely old Georgian building but JDW haven't been as sympathetic with this as with others, such as the Crosse Keys. It's not at all subtle - nasty fruit pattern carpet has been put over the original monochrome tiling, original plaster ceiling painted orange (no, we're not kidding). Poor murals of medieval scenes made to try and look like they are charcoal drawings and the odd bit of charcoal coloured marble dotted about. What it does have going for it is a little mezzanine that feels like a comfy middle-class Surrey anteroom - you have to say JDW does have a very good idea of who the customers are and what they want. Food is tasty, though not as cheap as other Wetherspoon but these punters can afford it. Most of the tables have high stools so it's not that comfortable to eat here. But there is a discount including a free pint if you want to eat after 2pm. And it's a freehouse of course with well-kept guest ales and the staff are helpful and friendly. However, there are better pubs in the area, however, and better bank conversions in the Square Mile to look at."

I'm living in South Ken for awhile while I'm over here for a semester...

Th thing is....the pubs and bars here are full of Americans. I'm an American, ok, but I really want to be out and about more with locals and the like. Any suggestions? I'd prefer to be in walking distance, or at least close enough to take a bus if it's too late for the tube....I was wondering about Fulham, or Hyde park area? or any other are remotely nearby =]

I'm pretty laidback, so while I enjoy going to a club and dancing the night away on occasion, I'm more of a drink beer or jameson's, smoke sometimes, and get to meet some cool people....

Tap water in Metro

Did anyone see that article in Metro earlier this week about tap water?
It mentioned a competition to design a carafe for London restaurants, and also a firm selling bottles for tap water. (Better and more resusable kind of plastic than just refilling a regular bottle of water, and they looked easier to clean too.)
The first I found at http://www.londonontap.org/ but I can't for the life of me find the latter...
Does anyone have the link?

This is very last minute, but I'm meeting up with a friend at Heathrow during his layover tomorrow and he wants to go somewhere for breakfast. Is there anywhere you'd recommend for breakfast around 8-9am that's within a 45 min tube ride from LHR? (and reasonably close to a tube station)

I just moved to London and have no clue about anything here, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Any ideas for buying good used appliances? I've looked on freecycle, but we really need a fridge, or larder fridge for under £100. Wouldn't mind getting a microwave also. I can find used clothing and used books, but I'm having trouble finding any store that specialise in used appliances. Or even if they don't specialise, but have a selection. I live in Westminster.
