These are beautiful!
The way I see people respond to tragedy in LJ communities, makes me think there's hope for the human race yet. :-)
Thank you for taking the time to make these.

Yes I am a proud south aussie :) And I often express myself through pictures. This just seemed to be the only way for me to show my hope.

I spent yesterday checking that all of my friends had survived. But these sickly banners are actually sapping my morale more than any number of exploding buses. Please, for the love of God, stop.

I appreciate your banners, great work! But I'm really not sure that they're... uhm... forceful enough to really bring across how Londoners are feeling right now. It's really important that all Britons - especially young Britons - adopt the sort of stalwart, patriotic and wholesome attitudes that our American brethren adopted after 11/9.

So with this in mind, perhaps you could edit the third banner to read "Make the children pray at gunpoint, it's the only way they'll learn"?

I'd be very appreciative. It's important that we don't let the opportunity to promote the US right-wing Christian fundamentalist values that made this country great slip.

These banners aren't made from a Londoner's perspective, nor are then made to be 'forceful'. They are made from the perspective of someone who has lost a dear friend to the work of terrorism and they express her views only.

The thing that has obviously not been said explicitly enough here is that your banners, quite apart from having just savaged my eyes (my beautiful, beautiful eyes) with the power and intensity of a million Al Queda firebombs is that to 9/10 Londoners, the actual *sentiment* is *sickening*.

It's offensive.

It actually makes us *angry*.

I'm pretty certain that's not what you meant, but it shows a callous disregard for anyone's feelings but your own.

You're obviously far more concerned about giving yourself a fluffy feeling of altruism while spaffing the contents of your font-directory into a few horribly patronising, wretch-inducing images, than you are about how an actual Londoner would feel.

We do not want or need sympathy, we don't want or need your or anybody's prayers and we certainly don't need busybodies who don't understand us gushing false sentiment in our direction.

If I needed any more damning proof that your intentions were less than geniune, it would be the fact that you want *credit* for these vile little scribblings. God help me, I wouldn't.

I will, however, be linking to the post wherever possible as the one thing it will produce that will be of any use to Londoners right now is a good hard laugh at a bunch of soft monkeys blubbing on LJ.

And keep your self-righteous, prissy reply. I actually live here, I'll say what I please.

It's saturday, and all seems to be on the mend, so I'm off for a fryup, and as you've made me feel all patriotic, a nice cup of tea.

You know, while it looks like your sentiment was largely unwelcome to the Londoners (you /have/ watched some Monty Python, right? Any of the fabulous BBC comedies? Dr. Who?), you're pretty talented with the photoshopping. The images are quite well composed. Have you done any other work that might be interesting?

Mixed reactions on this one.

Whereas I don't think that the pics here deserve the sheer volumes of venom being spitted about here I'm certainly of the way of thinking that it's kind of patronising to mourn on behalf of people you don't know. The sentiment is commendable but we have a definate difference between the USA and the UK way of thinking.

Generalisation abounding here, but I tend to see the American way of showing how they feel to be essentially "emotional masturbation" (not meant in an insulting way, just the best description for how I see it), and the British way tends to be like the 'Zulu' Monty Python sketch "stiff upper lip and pass the tea please".

There's been a misunderstanding, is all. I'm personally not liking the pictures (but appreciating the technical photoshop abilities required to make them) but then I'm a toff-nosed tea addicted brit, all this gushing of emotion is rather unsettling. But then that's what makes the human race great, the fact we're all different in different ways.

Right, now I've finished diploming, time to load up Counterstrike and whoop some terrorist arseheads.

oh please.

and in todays new falling to our knees in floods of tears will stop this.

uh.. no.

this is offensive beyond belief. i'm a Brit but not a Londoner, i don't know what it's like to actually be there at the moment. so what makes you think you are able to empathise when you're on the other side of the world?

you know what i love about this country? it's our ability to go "ah well shits happened, but you know what? we've been through worse than this. this isn't Baghdad or Beirut, its a miracle more people weren't hurt. and now? now we pick ourselves up and get on with it."

we don't need platitudes like this. if you want to help, go and find the homeless in your area nad give them a hot cup of soup. find a local charity and give them some of your time. realise that the whole world doesn't revolve around the capitalist west and make an effort to help those not as fortunate as you, instead of wasting your time making pretty pictures saying how sorry you are on your fancy computer in your comfortable home, with the full knowledge that once you hit send you can go to sleep in a comfortable bed where the big bad world cant touch you.

Well said. The guy I buy my regular copy if Big Issue from seeemed more angry than scared, he spoke more sense about it than a thousand right wing eschatologist nutball evangelicals ever could.

He said (and you'll appreciate that he has a right to feel strongly):

"Fuck those bastards, the lot of them, the terrorists, Blair, Bush and all their friends, playing games with lives. They can all piss off, cos life goes on"

He said it better than I could have done, frankly. I suspect that his sentiment is more useful than the chest beating of someone who apparently just took a one-day "photoshop for muppets" course before indulging in some cosy suburban angst.

Ignore the fucking moronic Brits commenting here. The vast majority would rather be blown up by a terrorist than ever say a nice thing about an American, anti-Americanism is as ingrained and popular over here as in any al-qaeda training camp. The majority of Brits are complete terrorist-loving, liberal assheads who hold much of the responsibility for making London in to the terror hub of Western Europe because of their excessive idiocy and suspicion of those trying to protect them. Oh, and before the idiotic fuckheads ask what right I have to comment, I should say that I'm a Londoner and was waiting for a tube at Kings Cross when the shit happened and I was back on the tube Friday morning. But unlike those assholes, I actually support fighting rather than trying to brush terrorism off as some minor annoyance. It's just a shame that treason laws are so underused these days, today's liberals would mostly qualify. Ah well.

That really torques my nut. I'm getting really fucking sick of conservative assholes saying that liberals (with that snotty tone, as if "liberal" was a dirty word) are CRIMINALS or UNPATRIOTIC for expressing opinions or behaving in certain ways. That's bullshit. It's too bad you weren't on that train. The world would be a better place with fewer people like you.

For the record, I'm not British, but I think the people who took those images as an insult have their heads straighter than you do. I mean fucking LENS FLARE?? Who does that anymore? Does anyone actually think that makes a picture better or more effective? And that shit about praying... does anyone think PRAYING will fix any goddamn thing? Ugh. I agree with the replier who felt ill viewing those images. It's a fucking insult.
