I got the idea when I read the new Ezra Pound Encyclopedia and found that his opinion (while he loved Ulysses and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and greatly helped in their publication) of Finnegans Wake was this: “Nothing so far as I make out, nothing short of divine vision or a new cure for the clapp can possibly be worth all the circumambient peripherization” (Pound's spelling).
