| Successories: The Superfriends |
[Jul. 20th, 2008|11:31 am] |
In keeping with the release of The Dark Knight (go see it right now, it's that good!), I decided to post more comic book-related successories with a blast from my past - the Superfriends! I still have very fond memories of countless Saturday mornings watching so-bad-they're-good episodes of my favorite heroes. Incidentally, if you'd like a good laugh about the Superfriends, check out seanbaby.com's commentary on the classic Superfriends shows (thanks jharish for introducing me to that site). Warning though, it's not polite or for the kids...but damn funny!
Recent past successories (both by me and ones I've found online) can be found here. The complete index of all my posted successories can be found here.
Have some successories you'd like to post? Post them at successoriesfun.

| Here's how it's going to go: |

I don't actually care about Dr. Horrible's Artificial-Scarcity Blog or whatever it's called. Out of curiosity, I tried to load it, and the video sat there and was jerky and subjected me to stop-start of Neil Patrick Harris practicing his supervillain laugh.
Whatever.
So when it inevitably comes out on DVD and one of you inevitably buys it, and then inevitably forces me to watch it because "OMG YOU'VE NEVER SEEN DR. HORRIBLE?" I will see it, and I won't actually care about it then, either. |

[Jul. 20th, 2008|11:23 am] |
It's from 1980 itself, and, well, I'm not in the mood for 70s leftovers. I spent most of the summer of '80 on a bottom-to-top trip w/ mom and grandmother, with most of July being at my mom's cousins in Hampton, VA near the water...generally bored out of my mind though on July 4 one could see a number of fireworks displays for each of the Hampton Roads cities from the water which was nice. I wasn't even able to watch "Solid Gold", so musically I have no memories of that summer at all.
Besides, I gotta endure the sun one more day to clean up from yesterday's event before the rains come. |

The difference between what love feels like in one's head, which is as the strongest, most essential, universal, undeniable, unstoppable force in the universe, and what it actually turns out to be like in real life, which is as a temporary, inconsistent, undependable, easily thwarted, finite thing, that distance, that enormous gap, can hardly be closed by mere increases in quantity, no matter how many people in love try to tell you it can.
From "Acts" by Tom Reynolds in subTerrain issue 49, page 14. Cheers from Omaha, Nebraska. Time to peel some soybeans. |

In related news, we were hoping to get to Red Bonez today, but our houseguest is ill from the heat, being pregnant, and forgetting her metformin at home. Last night's dinner from Jacob Wirth's came up overnight :( so i'm not subjecting her to more strongly flavoured food (that she has to pay for). A bit of dry toast and they'll hit the road and go back home.
So scholar and i owe Bonez and random midweek visit, to make up for it, i think :D |

| Oshkosh checklist |
[Jul. 20th, 2008|02:11 pm] |
Only one week to Oshkosh, and I’ve barely started getting ready. I think I need to write what I need so I can strike them out as they’re done.
Airplane booked
Charts ordered and arrived
GPS loaded with route and car charts
Tent
Sleeping bag
Thermarest pad
- Camera and batteries
- Camp stove
- Cooler
- Breakfasts
- water bottles
- diet coke
- beer
- cooking and eating utensils
- warm weather clothes
- cold weather clothes
You’ll note that I only plan to prepare breakfasts. OshawaPilot will verify that after a day of walking around Oshkosh I’m so wiped out that I’m useless for doing just about anything around the camp, so I’m planning to eat brats on the show site.
I’m also still having camera trouble - I bought a Minolta Maxuum 7D DSLR on eBay, but it was broken so I had to send it back, and I haven’t heard anything from them since.

Pee Wee just left to go get treatment at the Cape. The man who picked him up was very sweet and gentle. It was weird, Pee Wee walked right into his hands like he knew what was going on. Or maybe he just wanted out of that damn cage;P I will be informed on how he's doing, and I feel much better now that I know he is en route. No more cats clawing up my legs to get a peak. No more fretting. I will tell you one thing right now, I am even more dedicated to my bird garden then ever now. |

Who do you guys think the villain should be for the next Batman movie, and who should play him?
I just heard the most excellent idea so far: David Tennant as The Riddler. |

This morning I woke up and found, on my stove, a pot half-full of water containing a fork and an oral thermometer. The thermometer had clearly been boiled, and was now warped and waterlogged and utterly beyond use. ...What?
I've updated Disinterred, fixed all the links and created and index, so I'm feeling pretty proud of myself. But I'm still cranky about this thermometer business. |

| tropical storm. |
[Jul. 20th, 2008|02:06 am] |
Hurricane season is here. Apparently there's a tropical storm that's going to pass pretty close tuesday night ( christobal)
The last tropical storm passed by a good ways away, and knocked our power out for 6 hours, so I think we'll get some flashlights and prep a bit more for this one. i'd rather be ready and have nothing happen. We already have a gallon of water because there's some water interruptions during construction. At least we can water the dog then. |

I don't know how this is going to sound and honestly I don't care. I don't think I'm going to sleep tonight because I'm worried about Pee Wee. He has been sleeping for a few hours and I know he tipped his water over again, I want to give him more but I'm afraid if I open the cage he will get anxious again. I hate that I will never see him again after tomorrow and that I will never know how long he lives or if he makes it. I don't like the idea of putting him in a strangers hands. This really bothers me. I don't want him to be scared, and I know he will be. I never thought I would be so worried about a pigeon! I'm sitting here with tears dripping down my face because there is only so much I can do. I know the little guy is in pain and he wants his Mama. He wants his brothers and sisters. He needs them. But instead, he is sitting in a cage covered in towels inside a home on top of a table in a strange place with major injuries. It breaks my heart. The worst part is that I don't know how to help him! I have done all I can and I just need to pray and hope he has a good life after he leaves my home. I hope he knows I am trying to help him and not hurt him. |
