2. About how long is your history as a Lolita?
Well, I've always liked lolita, even before I knew what it was, so it's not really easy to say.
But I became aware of what it was called last year, around christmas time.

3. What first motivated you to do Lolita fashion?
I loved dressing up in pretty dresses as a little girl, and i've loved it ever since. Lolita takes me back to when I was a kid, with my box of clothes, going on my adventures with my imaginary friends.

4. After knowing Lolita fashion, have you had any time-gap or resistance till you actually started to be Lolita?
Well, I have some lolita pieces, but not a lot, because my mom might be frightened. So no lolita dresses yet, but i'l getting there!

5. Please define your Lolita style as much as possible. (eg. gothic Lolita, sweet Lolita, white Lolita…. Etc).
I'd probably go for Elegant Gothic Lolita, sweet lolita, country lolita, or shiro lolita. Guro lolita and Punk lolita are a bit beyond my tastes.

6. About how many Lolita friends do you have?
I have a friend who's really into lolita, but not fully fledged yet either. But we both adore and admire lolitas, and hope to be one someday.

7. What is the best thing about doing Lolita?
Probably getting looks; being different from the crowd. But it's also just the way the clothes look... and... I don't know. I really like all of it. [that sounds so typical, sorry]

8. Conversely, what's the worst thing?
The people who are convinced you are in some sort of costume, and the other Lolitas who find it unacceptable to not be in brand clothes. WHy does it matter as long as you like it??

9. Which Lolita Brands do you like?
I don't go for particular brands, but Fanplusfriend is a really good dealer.
But I usually look for lolita in regular stores and thrift shops.

10. What was the first Lolita item that you’ve owned?
That's hard... probably this brown and white country-esque lolita dress.

11. What is the “must have!” Lolita item?
A good smile.

12. Do you wear drawers?
No, but that would be nice.

13. Do you have any favourite Japanese music?
J-rock, mainly Nightmare. But Kanon Wakeshima is really good as well.

14. Where do you particularly visit as Lolita?
no where in particular, it'll probably be school though.

15. About how many times per week do you dress as Lolita?
I try to do it at least once a week, but my optional summer school takes up a lot of my day.

just beginning Lolita.
I thought I had a really good lolita skirt, but when I looked in the mirror for pictures, it didn't look as good as my mind had thought it to be.

17. What's the hairstyle and color that you think Lolita would suite the most?
I think the curly hair and straight bangs look is great for any hair color,
but I like it in brown.

18. Have you ever thought of stopping Lolita? The reason?
No, but once I become an adult I might have to stop.

I just go by what I think is cute.

I have a stuffed bear that i've had forever; he's always been there for me, and I love him purfusely.

Foundation, mascara, eyeliner, pink lipstick, white or brown eyeshadow [light]

22. Have you ever secretly changed clothes in a train station bathroom on Lolita day-out?
No, I have not.

23. Are you composed when doing Lolita all by yourself?
Well I try to be, but usually my inner kook comes out, hahaha.

I'm not sure, I don't go shopping much. I'm guessing maybe $50? But i'm not sure.

25. What is the most expensive Lolita thing you've bought so far? How much was it?
A blouse, about $20... probably.

26. So far about how much has the expense been for Lolita goods?
around $200, probably.

27. Lolita outfit really costs money. How do you raise money to cover the cost of Lolita?
I do a lot of chores, and do my best in school to win cash awards. I usually go to thrift stores or Goodwill for my lolita, hahaha.

You can start lolita any time. Graduation from Lolita though... well I think it's just more of a transition into aristocrat, and then that will never end, ha.

I wish that lolita weren't seen as erotic sometimes, ugh.

Lolita should be pretty free-form.

I've been studying it a LOT more, and losing weight so I can look better in a lolita dress.

Yeah, sometimes.

2. About how long is your history as a Lolita?
At least three years. It's hard to gauge because I was dressing in things very similar to Lolita before I even knew what it was, I just wasn't aware.

3. What first motivated you to do Lolita fashion?
I am tend to dress in very original clothes. Being overdressed really doesn't bother me, nor does going over the top. I just want to dress how I like - it doesn't matter what other people think. I don't solely dress in Lolita, and I don't fret about it fitting all the style rules. If it's pretty, I'll wear it, and Lolita qualifies. :3

4. After knowing Lolita fashion, have you had any time-gap or resistance till you actually started to be Lolita?
Well I'm not really sure what you mean by 'being' a Lolita. I dressed in it before I knew about it to an extent, but I don't dress it in all the time, I just have Lolita outfits in my wardrobe that I wear when I feel like it. I have way too many styles I like to limit myself to one. I know tons about the Lolita style on the other hand and consider myself to be very well-read on the topic.

5. Please define your Lolita style as much as possible. (eg. gothic Lolita, sweet Lolita, white Lolita…. Etc).
Sweet I guess...I don't like to categorize myself; everything is nice. I just don't think I'd ever wear guro, pirate or zombie on a daily basis.

6. About how many Lolita friends do you have?
In real life I have three or four not including those I see only at community meetups//the ones I know because of our common loli interest.

7. What is the best thing about doing Lolita?
The colours and look of it, plus looking different than everyone else and expressing yourself.

8. Conversely, what's the worst thing?
The people who are convinced you are in some sort of costume, and the other Lolitas who find it unacceptable to not be in brand clothes. WHy does it matter as long as you like it??

9. Which Lolita Brands do you like?
I am not a major fan of any of them..I know people who make their own that look just as nice. I am yet to find a brand that makes a significant amount of clothing that I don't like, but brands really mean nothing to me.

A green and white off-brand Lolita dress.

11. What is the “must have!” Lolita item?
A dress that is not over-done.

12. Do you wear drawers?
No but I would love to have a pair of bloomers.

Tomoko Kawase and ZZ.

I have a uniform at school so not even once a week. It is rare that I wear anything in wardrobe at all. It's all uniform -> pajamas for me. :/

It is extremely difficult for me to get embarassed when I think I am doing nothing wrong. I love dressing and Lolita and the only real negativity that has arose from it would be the rude comments I get on the street every so often. That doesn't embarass me though, it just makes the commenters look like jerks.

17. What's the hairstyle and color that you think Lolita would suite the most?
A wild hairstyle that looks exceptional.

18. Have you ever thought of stopping Lolita? The reason?
Nope, and my boyfriend is fine with it too.

Sorry, I don't go by anything. :/ I just dress in what I like; no reason for it to have to be Lolita. The rules don't bother me.

I don't have any ball-joint dolls if that's what you mean. I have tons of stuffed animals though and a German doll - it's a blond girl in a dress but it's still plushie.

21. What kind of make-up do you wear when you wear Lolita clothes?
Definitely blush, and usually some Mac lipstick and always try to remember to put on mascara and white or black eyeliner. Eyeshadow isn't a must, so nothing consistent; sometimes it's crazy, sometimes it's natural-looking, sometimes none at all.

22. Have you ever secretly changed clothes in a train station bathroom on Lolita day-out?
No? lol What exactly is the point in that? I mean maybe after work or school or something but..

23. Are you composed when doing Lolita all by yourself?
Yup but I am most-often on my way to meet up with people. I am sixteen and don't really go out alone. Plenty of friends around so why bother?

24. How much do you spend on your Lolita clothes & accessary monthly?
I don't go shopping regularly. I don't have a job, just an allowance. When I need new clothes, I buy it all at once.. I just buy what I need which ins't very much since as I previously mentioned, I have a uniform.

25. What is the most expensive Lolita thing you've bought so far? How much was it?
Uhh my green and white dress was a little over $100 with shipping. I forget the exact price.

26. So far about how much has the expense been for Lolita goods?
A couple hundred.

Make it myself, get friends to help, thrift stores, saving up allowance, begging my mom and am looking for a job for materials.

Yes I have. Someone from Montreal was on Ebay and would have the item shipped from Beijing to her and then send it to me. It fit really well and they used the fabric I asked for even though it wasn't one of the available regular options but it was supposed to come with criss-crossing lace in the front and it didn't. I am guessing that might be because this fabric was more pricey? I don't know what for a fact though and they did not communicate with me o n the matter or apologize or anything. The dress was not custom other than the colour so you'd think at least the girl I bought it from in Montreal would have noticed.. Oh well, I did not complain to her or anything and I think it looks nice without it anyway.

Well passers-by either like it or are too closed-minded to do anything but insult how different it is. People at my school know me as a weirdo (not because of Lolita but they just do) so Lolita idn't anything particular or out of character for me. My family doesn't know how into it am... They haven't said anything negative, but my dad freaked out and thought it was insane when he found out I know people who dress in it on a regular basis. He doesn't know that I would if I could, hahah. My mom just thinks my outfits are pretty/cool but I don't know f deep down she thinks I'm a freak or not.

40. What kind of Lolita is who has impressed you the most up until now?
No one? :S

Well I don't have a sewing machine yet but I am soon to make my own handkerchiefs. I lost the money that was to be spent on the fabric but I have the thread. Just need money for ribbon & fabric now.

Hmmm...I guess I've known it for about a year, but I'm still building up my Lolita wardrobe.

3. What first motivated you to do Lolita fashion?
I found out about it when I was getting into anime and manga, loved all the beautiful clothes and elegant ladies and wanted to be a part of it.

4. After knowing Lolita fashion, have you had any time-gap or resistance till you actually started to be Lolita?
I've only just started building up my wardrobe, and am now saving up for an actual branded item. XD

Gothic Lolita and sometimes a bit of Sailor Lolita.

I love the beautiful clothes, Victorian feel to it and the fact you look different to everyone else.

No, I've never been too into dolls. Well, I have this doll that looks kind of like a voodoo doll, she has a miniature version of my skirt I mentioned earlier on, black eyes with white crosses and black velvet and lace for hair. XD I love her dearly.

I think (well, I hope) I havepretty good skin, so just some translucent powder (or white powder from Stargazer), lots of mascara, maybe something on my eyes (eyeshadows, liner, etc.) and a cute lipstick or gloss.

No. XD

It isn't really a secret or private, but cheapy American Lolita site In The Starlight is good. Also, try eBay! It has bad hype, but if you are careful, you can save a lot of money!

Those lovely £200 branded Lolia dress from places like Angelic Pretty and BSSB.

It's alright, I prefer to wear it whenever possible, but some people might not be able to. Like when people get ready for Friday and Saturday nights.

32. From what age to what age is it acceptable to do Lolita? Do you think that there's a state in which someone must graduate from Lolita?
I think when you start to get to 35-40, then maybe it is time to stop, or at the least, change to EGA. I think someone can graduate to "full Lolita" when they have a branded item...even if it's just a pair of socks. XD

33. Is there a Lolita fashion or behavior that you think "I don't want Lolitas to do this!" about?
Hmm...not really, unless some Lolitas like the kind of men that like little girls...that wouldn't happen, would it?!

Lolita has to have look like dolls! XD

I think I'm more confident and know more about it than before.

I like casual Lolita, which is just a lolita shirt or something, but I would love to be able to (and have enough stuff to) wear if casually.

The fact that I'd grown out of the trends and wanted something more unique. I found Lolita after doing a project on Japanese Street Fashion ( I was into Decora at the time ), and just fell in love.

A year whilst I saved, researched, drooled over brands and tried to persuade my parents that it wasn't a fad.

I'm really just now starting to get into wearing it. I used to do cartoon dolling when I was 13 or 14 (I was on The UG and stuff) and a lot of dollers made lolita dolls which is how I became acquainted with it. I had only thought about it occasionally though until recently when I started accompanying my sister to anime conventions and attended a few panels and realised it was easier than I thought to buy loli clothes.

I'm a really girly girl and I feel like lolita expresses sort of an alter ego who would want to sit around and grow roses and drink tea all of the time. It's not a part of myself I get to explore a lot and loli is a great outlet for that.

I think all different sorts of hair looks nice with lolita, you just have to be sure that your clothes look nice with your coloring (hair color, skin color, eye color, etc.). I've always loved those "lolita-esque" girls from anime/manga's, but I wasn't formally introduced into lolita until my sophomore year in high school (2006, I think) by a friend. I also didn't really start collecting lolita stuff until recently (early 2009). So I'm really new lol.

Traditional bell-shaped skirt, ALWAYS wear a petticoat/bloomers, knee-high socks, blouses under jumper skirts, skirts should NOT be much above the knee, should have on proper Lolita shoes and not cosplay-Lolita shoes or tennis shoes or flip flops or regular high-heels.

Some of the dress-styles are changing and Sweet Lolita is becoming more popular than Gothic Lolita now, and it's spreading more in the USA and UK and Germany now.

i have been into lolita, even before i knew it was lolita, since i was in eighth grade. i started wearing it last year.

when i bought my first ever manga, the second volume of pita-ten.

yeah, i didnt know it was lolita, i was just designing those types of clothes until i found out it was lolita on the interenet. then i had to find stores that sold it cheaper then $200.

elegant gothic lolita, leaning more towards Mana's look. not the simple gothic, quite abit of kuro, very lacking sweet, though i am finding it more and more appealing.

i used to have one, but she was more into visualy kei and cosplayish loli, and she goes to a different school now. my twin sister is into aristocrat for a man though.

the depiction of a victorian porcelain doll. frilly dark dresses, cute accessories, lots of compliments because its not exactly 'goth'.

when people say its 'cosplay' or 'costumes', the name is often mistaken for the lolita complex, not fashion. i get told i look like a french maid, its often to warm for summer, to cold for winter.

its not about me, but a friend of mine. before i owned an actual lolita dress (not one from target), a friend of mine put together the most ugly outfit i had ever seen on anyone. she cut off sleeves of shirts, wore them as leg and arm warmers, put on two or three different skirts, wore three or four shirts and put on mardi gras necklaces with knee high socks. it was horrible!

17. What's hairstyle and color that you think Lolita would suite the most?
straight, blunt bangs, with should length ringlets. i often picture a brunnet loli with this style of hair.

yeah, once i had reached an age thats too old for lolita dresses.

mom's handicrafts store (now known as momos fairytale world), they dont have a good rep, but i havent had any bad experiences with them.

        I kinda dove head first into Lolita. My first jsk and blouse were hand made by my mom with a pattern I picked out and a sketch I drew. It almost didn't get finished in time to wear to the event i was attending. =O

        Right now what I actually wear is kind of limited. I dont have the money or the figure to wear brand (or trust me, I would), so everything is hand made and that takes time. My first jks was a sudo-gothic style and I'm currently working on a sweet style one.

        None of my irl friends are really into Lolita, most of them are guys infact. XD I'm hoping to make so new Lolita friends in the future.

        Expressing my creativity in handmade items. ^_^ Oh, and feeling pretty, duh.

        I'm quite shy about wearing it alone in public, and texas is freakin' hot.

        I haven't had a particually embarrassing moment that sticks out but I'm still new to this and am bound to make a fool of myself eventually. =P

        I think curls are more Lolita then strait hair, but i am of the firm belief that you can make any color and any style for for at least one version of Lolita dress.

        If I were to stop Lolita it would be because of cost, or my lack of confidance to do it alone. Also I think I will probally "grow out" of it eventually, I mean, wouldn't you think your mom was silly if she dressed Lolita?

        Yes, I bought my petticoat from Fan Plus Friend. Good- It's always nice to be able to get something your size and not have to had make it if it would be a pain. Bad- shipping from Hong Kong sucks, it's expensive and takes a long time. Also, you have no way of knowing that the color you see on you moniter is the color you'll see with your eyes.

I do not think I would be taken seriously as a parent if I were to dress Lolita regularly. So becoming a parent, to me, means its time to hang up the petticoat except for special occations. Also I think theres a time where EGA becomes more appropriate then EGL, but I could't put a definative age on that.

Being elitest about brand, and lame things like that.

Only about months, though I've been interested in the fashion for over a year.

I felt bored with my life, and my style had sunk into a rut. Getting dressed every morning failed to give me any of the joy it used to. So, I typed "lolita fashion", which I'd heard of a while ago, into Google and . . .

4. After knowing Lolita fashion, have you had any time-gap or resistance till you actually started to be Lolita?
Well, yes . . . I spent 3 months making outfits (I can't afford to buy brand, and buying Bodyline, etc. somehow doesn't float with me) so I guess you could consider that a "gap". But it wasn't an "I'm embarrassed" gap. :)

Mostly classic in the fall and winter and sweet in the spring and summer. My colors have always changed with the weather, so it isn't anything new.

No, not really. People have been rude enough once or twice to make me cry, but I've never gotten angry enough to actually quit wearing the clothes I love (and spent so much time making!)

I hate the super-thick makeup, especially when the outfit is very elaborate as is. It's so overpowering and is just . . . too much. And short skirts, and tennis shoes. No way, no how, honey.

My parents have no problem at all with it (which I felt very relieved about when I first showed them a few dresses and they were fine with it). My dad thinks it's cute, and he likes how conservative it is . . . he'shappy I'm not flashing my boobies and/or painting my lips black. My mom likes everything except the dresses (both JSKs and OPs) which she thinks look silly, but she has no problem with me wearing them. My 5-year-old sister tells her friends that "My sister is a princess!" ^-^

A loli that always gets every single coordinate perfectly. The socks go with the dress go with the headdress . . . and you look at it and your jaw drops from the sheer lovely.

I'm known as Ruby and I live in New Jersey.

2. About how long is your history as a Lolita?
Not so far. XD I've started August 2008. I'm a noob. :D

3. What first motivated you to do Lolita fashion?
I was somewhat interested in lolita something years ago, but I forgot about it. Then one of my close friends brought it up again and ironically I found one of the GLBs lying around at Barnes and Noble a few days later.

4. After knowing Lolita fashion, have you had any time-gap or resistance till you actually started to be Lolita?
Well, I'm not so sure on how long the gap is, but I was probably 14 or 15 when I discovered it. I liked it, but I thought my parents would bar me from getting clothes like that.

5. Please define your Lolita style as much as possible. (eg. gothic Lolita, sweet Lolita, white Lolita…. Etc).
I really don't have a strong preference, but the clothes I have so far point towards sweet and I have one classic style dress.

6. About how many Lolita friends do you have?
Probably 1 or 2. I have met one IRL, but we're not so close. She was so nice, though ;.; *felt so happy* I was surprised she recognized me at NYAF and I had no clue who she was till she told me who she was on NJ_loli

7. What is the best thing about doing Lolita?
I feel like an individual and the clothes are just so pretty.

8. Conversely, what's the worst thing?
Probably the comments you'd get from other people and since the style is so different, I know I'll be stared and gawked at.

9. Which Lolita Brands do you like?
Mary Magdelene, Victorian Maiden, Baby the Stars Shine Bright, Angelic Pretty, and a few others that I can't recall the name of..

10. What was the first Lolita item that you’ve owned?
Well, I ordered a full outfit from In the Starlight for my first outfit. I luff it <3 It was the black and white floral outfit and I ordered bloomers, petticoat, and socks, too.

11. What is the “must have!” Lolita item?
I have more than one. Petticoat, bloomers, and hair accessories.

12. Do you wear drawers?
I only wear them in lolita.

13. Do you have any favourite Japanese music?
Well, the Japanese Sailor Moon songs still appeal to me...the opening and closing song of Romeo x Juliet...I don't really listen to Japanese music that much, though.

14. Where do you particularly visit as Lolita?
I don't really visit much places in Lolita. I have not really gone out in public in lolita clothes. I have gone to two places with it on, but thats it.

15. About how many times per week do you dress as Lolita?
Alot. *shot* I've only worn lolita to a con and gone as a gurololita (probably badly done) for the Halloween party at my school.

16. Please tell us about one embarrassing episode from the time when you were
just beginning Lolita.
The anime con. GAWD,I felt like hanging myself. My hair was a total mess from the rain during NYAF. I felt like I was an ita, despite there was no bad lace, right length for the skirt, and no cat ears :D I just felt inferior to all those pretty lolitas there. And then I felt like crawling under a rock when I took pictures with the BTSSB designers.

17. What's hairstyle and color that you think Lolita would suite the most?
Ringlets...? Nice, curly hair?

18. Have you ever thought of stopping Lolita? The reason?
Not really.

If you mean dollfies, no. But I have old Barbie dolls, but...I don't feel anything for them. xD

I was never really a make-up person and probably never will be. I only put on make-up when I'm in lolita, but I borrow my mom's make-up.

22. Have you ever secretly changed clothes in a train station bathroom on Lolita day-out?
No.

23. Are you composed when doing Lolita all by yourself?
If not at a con, no. I'm unfortunately not very confident yet. I feel like I'm doing things wrong and sometimes I feel scared that I would be jumped or something. I don't think I'd mind bad comments as much, I can just ignore it (though I'd feel like slaughtering them).

24. How much do you spend in your Lolita clothes& accessary monthly?
Since it's so expensive, I don't buy things monthly. But when I bought from IST it would be $100+. When I bought my first brand dress, along with socks and a blouse, it was $300+ x_x.

25. What is the most expensive Lolita thing you've bought so far? How much was it?
My first BTSSB dress. It was around $247.00

26. So far about how much has the expense been for Lolita goods?
If I lump all the orders I have made, probably $600+.

Lolita?
Family. DX I don't really get allowance or anything, though. I am hoping to find a job soon though.

I have bought from ITS and BTSSB's online store. ITS replies and ships quickly. :) The only bad thing (not major though), is that she doesn't put some protective wrapping around the clothes like plastic wrap. It wouldn't be fun if something were to spill on the box and get through the cardboard and stain the clothes. But despite that, I love ITS. BTSSB, I have recently done my first order with them and I'm still waiting for it to ship. They have replied to me the next day I sent my order which is good. I'm not so sure with shipping as it's my first time ordering online from them.

29. Even if you sort of want to keep it a secret, please clandestinely tell us
about a private manufacturer that is the best.
Well, the only one I know are the seamstresses for In the Starlight, so I say them. xD

30. Is there a brand and/or an item that you think, "I could never get it! But I unreasonably want it!"?
Hmm, I really don't know, but I love Fruits Parlor but I highly doubt I'd be able to get it since they're in such high demand and expensive.

31. What do you think about people who only do Lolita at music-lives or cosplay?
I really don't mind, unless they're wearing something really horrible. I probably still wouldn't say anything though, I'm not one that likes to confront people. XD

32. From what age to what age is it acceptable to do Lolita? Do you think that there's a state in which someone must graduate from
Lolita? (you can answer as ‘never graduate’)
An age acceptable to start is probably 15 or 16. I don't think there should be a graduate age though (I'd feel awkward though, if I were 40 and wearing lolita, but I think people should wear whatever they want.)

33. Is there a Lolita fashion or behavior that you think "I don't want Lolitas to do this!" about?
I don't know.

34. Is there something you think "Lolita has to be this way!" about?
If you mean about behavior, none. I just think the clothes just have to go with the guidelines (cupcake poof, no short skirt length, etc.)

35. While doing Lolita, has something changed from earlier than you did Lolita?
No.

36. Do you go to school/work as Lolita?
Nope, I have to wear a uniform to school. XD I could go dress it for dress-down days, but I have no clue on what the nuns would say. I plan to wear lolita at my school's "Deck the Hall" event where we decorate the school with Christmas stuff. I just might falter from doing so because I don't want to get in trouble and I don't feel like being picked on. But it will help me grow a thick skin.

I would love to. ;.;

I never had a boyfriend.

39. What do the people around you think of your doing Lolita? Do they accept it?
Some of my friends think it's really adorable and cute. A few of them are "eh" about it. I guess the ones that are "eh" accept it, I'm sure my friends aren't that immature to leave me because I'm in some obscure fashion.

40. What kind of Lolita is who has impressed you the most up until now?
I don't know any personally (well I know one, but I've never seen her in lolita clothing before), so I don't know.

41. Have you ever made your own Lolita clothing or/and accessories? If so, what was the best item that you’ve made?
No. But I plan to teach myself to sew when I get the time.

Not really. But I'm going to get the Rococo Acessories set (JSK and bow only) soon.

Sweets, cute stuff toys, elegant places.

It's their choice of what they want to wear. XD I don't want to force it on them. I just won't allow them to dress in clothes that show too much.

I don't think there's an ideal image of Lolita. XD
