Just found out about this group, so I'm posting some of my sketches as an intro. :) Cross posted to EGL.
Only a few of them have been colored since I had specific colors in mind when I was designing them. Of course, all of the colors were completely washed out in the scanning, so I've put blobs of color from photoshop next to them for comparison. My favorite by far is the olive and pink jsk (#4), which I am currently working on a pattern for as I type (er, sort've)! And, if some of these look a wee bit familiar, it's because I was seeing how close I could get to actual items found on various loli sites. Virtual cupcakes if you can guess what comes from where! :P I'd love any feedback, though I reserve the right to ignore any/all of it. ;) I'd love any input on adding lace, however, as I haven't worked with it much and am not sure about the best placement for it just yet.

Let's revive this place!

A post over on egl had me wondering if anyone is still around here? I miss the themed design contests this community used to host (you know... the animal theme, holiday theme, etc) and was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing more of them? I'd be happy to run one in November or so, but I suppose it's not worth the bother if there's nobody active here any more. And it would be nice to see if anyone else is interested in running contests as well (because I like to enter! XD).

Alternately, would anyone be interested in a series of design theme challenges that aren't contests with winners and prizes but are just to get the creative juices going and give everyone a challenge?

I know there are still lots of members in this community, why don't we bring the place back to life a bit? ; )

We're coming up on the deadline, so if you live in Minnesota, South Dakota, Iowa or Wisconsin, this is for you :)

Also, it looks like if you register before August 31 you get a $10 discount on entrance into SGMS. Do it if you can, it's worth the $10 savings. The thing is, because it's a conferance/workshop at a huge art college, it's a bit expensive. They fly in academics from around the world as well as amazing artists to teach you manga art. We had Udonone year! This year is Tania Del Rio (of Sabrina the Teenage Witch). She's very nice. The artist from our convention went to college with her, so they go way back. Also, Jeremy Rossfrom Tokyopop usually does a portfolio review and because the group is usually under $100 people, you can spend the whole weekend with the guests. Crispin Freeman is coming again this year and he's just about the biggest sweetheart ever. The lady who used to run the fashion show with me is a professor of fashion at University of Indiana. I always call her the Doctor of Fashion since she actually has a doctorate. Heh :) Anyway, there are usually good fashion talks as well as the fashion show on Friday.

Hello! It seems like it's been a while since there's been a design contest and I could really use your help for this one!

                               I do all sorts of sewing for theatre, cosplay commissions, and lolita which leaves me with tons of leftover fabric!


It feels lately as if my fabric build up has become overwhelming and that's where you talented designers come in! I would like to hold a design contest using mainly the fabrics pictured below in which I will make the winning designer's garmet!    While I will keep the first place garment once I complete it for my own wardrobe the winner will recieve a seperate article of clothing from their design (skirt, blouse, accessory set, etc.) There are lots of design options here and depending on which one you choose can determine which sort of prize you get if you're one of the other two finalists.

~Any kind of outfit you can think of!
Don't limit yourself to the options I've listed here, those are just ideas to maybe help you along the way since some of my fabrics are of the stranger variety. Feel free to use your vast creativity and design something beautiful!

It can be any style of lolita that you like! I always try to keep variety in my wardrobe so feel free to design punk, sweet, classic, or anywhere in between! It can be a rainbow patchwork themed outfit and still come out gorgeous!

~A set of outfits
Twin outfits or opposing outfits are always acceptable! My friends love dressing up with me and it would be great to have an idea to make a set out of! If you choose this option they must be entered together as one picture.

~Halloween lolita
As you can see I love taking a spin on lolita to make a theme out of it. The much loved holiday is fast approaching so a lolita angel or devil (or whatever else you can think of!) would be so much fun to make!

~Dollfie lolita.
I have a beautiful doll named Vivian and you may also feel free to design something for her! A coordinating outfit for each of use would be uber adorable as well!

~Purse, bag, or other accessories
I love making accessories as well so if you don't feel up to designing an entire outfit you are welcome to design something such as these.

Prizes:
1st place will have their design made into an oufit and recieve a duplicate piece of that outfit for their own wardrobe. Depending on the complexity of the design this can be a blouse, jacket, skirt, headdress and sock toppers, etc.

1st runner up will not have their entire design made into reality but will recieve a piece of it. As with the 1st place option an article of clothing from the design will be chosen by and sent to this winner once completed.

2nd runner up will recieve a smaller piece of their design created and sent to them. This would limited to something like a headdress, or wrist cuffs. Possibly a simpler version of the skirt if so designed.

Rules

1.
I'm picturing the fabric below for a reason. Please try and utilize as much of it in your designs as you can. If the design does not have an option of using any of my fabric than it will be disqualified. I love ruffling, pleating, buttons, and grommets so please feel free to use those in your designs as well. I do not, however, have access to decent quality lace so if you use lace in your design and have a link to some similar somewhere on the internet, please include that in your email.

2.
Files should be sent in either jpeg of gif format to seamstresschick@yahoo.com by July 16. I will resize the files to fit in the winners page so size of the file isn't a huge issue. Please include your lj username!

3.
By entering this contest you are agreeing to allow me to display your design in the later post once all the entries are gathered. Anyone else entering the contest must be respectful of the other designs and does not have permission to use them without the artist's consent.

4.
You may enter the contest with two seperate entries but you are only eligible for one prize.

5.
Have fun! You don't have to be an artist to enter this contest and if you think something you've drawn might be confusing than feel free to put a little text blip describing it in your design.

Now onto the fabric info!

Here are the main fabrics I have. You are not limited to, and in fact, encouraged to use other fabrics not found below but please keep them in more of the minority. An example would be designing an outfit with a skirt and headdress made out of one of the fabrics below but a white blouse to which I obviously don't already have the fabric for. That is pefectly acceptable and encouaged!

The fabric descriptions go from left to right, top row first.

T1. Thin gold fabric that is very soft. I can't categorize beyond that I'm afraid. 1yd.   T2. narrow rouched gold sheer fabric backed on satin. 2 1/2 yd.
1. A golden yellow cotton 1 1/2 yd. 2. Yellow cotton 3/4 yd. 3. A heavy yellow lycra fabric. 1 yd.

1. the frist two coloring are the front and back of the same fabric to show the color difference. It's a soft incredibly stretchy fabric that was used to make a dress 1 1/2 yd. 2. A sheer purple overlay fabric. 2 yd.

1. Whine red heavy cotton. 3/4 yd. 2. Sheer dark red overlay 2 yd. 3. Red Casa satin. Was originally used to make this

It has little to no shine and is a nice heavy fabric. Too formal for an everyday lolita but perfect for something royal or costume themed. 5 yd.

1. Light blue cotton 1 yd. 2. Dark blue cotton 1 yd. 3. Bright blue fabric slightly softer and lighter than the other cottons. 1 1/2 yd. 4. Navy blue sheer overlay fabric. 1 1/2 yd.

1. Heavy white fabric used to make a coat. 1 yd. 2. Off white cotton 1 yd.

1. Tannish pink cotton 1 yd. 2. Sheer pink overlay 2 1/2 yd.

1. Light gray cotton 3 yd. 2. Stretch velvet grey with a flower print 3 yd.

1. Cotton with some slight stretch to it 4 1/2 yd.  2. Pikachu cotton 2 yd. 3. 2 way stretch water repellent fabric purchased originally for use as swimsuit 2 yd. 4. Cotton with slight flannel qualities 1 1/2 yd. 5. Pruple leopard print cotton 1yd. 6. Butterfly print cotton 1/2 yd.   7. Alice print cotton 1/2 yd.

I also have the following trims in large amount.

Not pictured but highly in stock in my sewing piles as well are lots of both black and white feathers. (in case you run with a theme for your ouftit!)
Also not pictured is 1 yd of black cotton and 1 1/2 yards of black lining

There hasn't been much activity here, I wonder why. Anyways... I was going to art school for fashion design, but I've decided to take my own course and eventually start my own line- very very soon... these are recent designs, one for a summer dress and the other is more for fall/winter. Please enjoy

inspired by the meta poodle dress, but since they're sold out and I have NO money, I have some fabric that's pink and white candy striped with bunny faces and at the bottom of the fabric is a floral motif

Is going to be featured in the MagnumOpus Fashion Show on Mar. 9th, 2007 at the Sacramento Taskopoulos Library Galleria.

AppleSugar will be Showcasing 20 sets of egl girl outfits and 5 kodona/prince outfits.

Check out the fashion show site. This is a fairly new show, but it already gotten much attention within the Sacramento Regions and nearby counties. This is a great opportunity to introduce Elegant Gothic Lolita fashion into a wider range of people who has never seen it before. Originally this show is exclusive to mainstream fashion, but this year they wanted something new in the mix and pegasusmaiden.com was recommended by one of the photographers we work with. So we got in!

I run the webzine Antique Child and I have a request for all you designers and illustrators out there.

I'm doing a little "How to Dress" bit, similar to the coordination-an-outfit section in the GL Bibles, on Ouji-style and Himeloli. Both will include concept illustrations of possible outfits that could be worn and be considered part of their respective styles.

Would any of you be willing to submit some Himeloli (and possibly Ouji) designs or artwork? They will be published in the zine and seen by our readers.

An Idea

The community has been a little dead as of recent. I thought of an idea that might be fun to try. Might get the community going again.

First we need a list of participants. Then I'll give the first person a basic design. Maybe even an image from one of the brand sites. They then make slight alterations to the design. Then the next person on the list takes their design and makes slight alterations to it. And so on until everybody has had a turn. In the end we can make a post of the evolution of the original design to the final.

So anybody want to participate? Leave a comment so I can make a list. Lets get some posts going again!
