Storytime! [Thursday 25th June, 2009 | 11:13am]

An amusing story that I thought I would share. Yesterday some interesting events happened with my friend and I regarding Loki. In the morning, her and I were making a bunch of perverted jokes with Odin and Loki, and some of the things we said upset Loki(not getting into details, but it was related to his sexual performance compared to Odin). We went to a doctor appointment after that, and when we came back, we noticed that Loki's candle on her outdoor altar was missing. Odin's candle was standing up untouched. We went over to the altar, and found the candle holder knocked on the ground with the candle nowhere in sight. We determined that a squirrel must have run away with it. Now she had to buy a new candle for him.

We went to a local pagan store that normally has next to nothing related to the Norse gods in it(mostly New Age products), but has a nice selection of candles. When we went to check out, I noticed right away on the table of new products, a Snaptun Stone replica! The woman at the counter said they just got it in that week. All three of us were commenting that in our own experiences, we had never seen Loki before with that silly-looking mustache. On the way back home, my friend and I were pondering when exactly Loki had this mustache, since we never met anybody before that saw him with one. Obviously when the person carved the stone back in the Viking era, since most men had facial hair. Then my thought was perhaps in the 70s when the mustache was a bit more popular? Then this both gave us images that would not go away of Loki in an orange disco suit with gold chains, chest hair, and a giant mustache. I could not stop laughing, so I assumed at this point that he was no longer angry about the comments made earlier that day. Has anyone else noticed that he really does not like to stay angry with his followers for too long? At least that's how it is with me and others I know. I like that about him a lot.

Misappropriation of Loki [Wednesday 24th June, 2009 | 9:00pm]

My sister pointed out the following news story to me.

San Jose Mercury News: San Jose police seek possible rape victims of Vagos Motorcycle Club members

But as disturbing as any news about men raping women may be, what particularly irks me is that you find out this particular Bike Gang uses Loki, as their symbol. >_< This doesn't appear to be a white supremacist biker gang... in fact the members appear to be Hispanic.

As someone who Honors Loki, all I can say is I hope the Flame-Haired God makes them rue the fact they use Him as their symbol. For there's a special place in Hel (either Nifolhel or Nastrond) awaiting them. For the curious, here's a link to a picture that show's their version of Loki.

EtinMoot 2009 [Saturday 13th June, 2009 | 12:20pm]

ignited_spark
Thursday, August 6 through Sunday, August 9
Hubbardston, Massachusetts

EtinMoot is dedicated to the Jotnar and sponsored by Iron Wood Kindred, a group of Heathens and Pagans who worship the gods of the North. We hold this annual public event because while we honor the Aesir and Vanir, we feel that the giant-folk deserve some honor as well. Anyone is welcome to attend whether or not you're a Norse/Germanic religionist, and all we ask is that guests abide by a few basic rules of courtesy.

Now in its fourth year, EtinMoot will once again take place at Cauldron Farm in central Massachusetts. This time we will be honoring Kari, Logi and Hler, Jarnsaxa, Hyndla, the Norns, Mordgud, Hela and our patron Angrboda. We will once again be honored with Mani's presence as well as enjoying our usual Thursday expedition to the seaside (location TBA) in honor of Ran, Aegir and Their nine daughters, and another fun-filled party for Loki (our other patron) will be held on Friday night.

Admission is $20 per person for the entire weekend. Attendees are responsible for their own transportation, food and lodging. We do not provide tents or equipment, so please bring camping gear, sunblock, bug spray, toilet paper, rain gear and other necessities for a primitive camp site. You may also want to bring a swimsuit for the Thursday trip, alcohol and snacks for Loki's party as well as small items (candy, little toys, etc.) for the sacred Lokean party pinata, and offerings for various deities. If you are unsure as to what kind of offerings to bring, please contact us and we'll make suggestions.

There are several motels within a half hour drive of Cauldron Farm. If you plan to camp on site and would like to attend the Sea-Etins' Faining, please arrive Wednesday August 5. If you are not attending the Sea-Etins' Faining on Thursday, plan to arrive late (after 7 PM) Thursday night or on Friday morning. Details about the farm, directions and guidelines for campers may be found at http://www.cauldronfarm.com.

Should you have any questions, or if you'd like more information, please contact Elizabeth at evongvisith@gmail.com, or call 978-928-4198.

I was doing my rounds on nshrine.com (and made a shrine to Veles too) and saw in one of Loki's shrines that someone put a peace candle and wrote the message "don't hurt me". Do you think we should get our cellphones ready to call an ambulance?

Hey All [Wednesday 20th May, 2009 | 10:14pm]

Hey everyone
Just joined the community and wanted to say 'Hi!'. I've been a Loki-ist for quite a long while (but have just decided to now call myself a 'Lokean', way cooler name) but have only recently joined LJ and decided to fully recognise this devotion.

Call me 'Kesa'. I'm a teen, I live in Australia, and am a through-and-through Norse Mythology nerd, although Loki has always been my absolute favourite god. I reckon I'm going to be driven absolutely crazy by all of you, judging by the posts I've seen so far, and I'm looking forward to it!

Out of curiousity, anyone here read "Runemarks", "Eight Days of Luke", "American Gods" or any other Loki-related piece of literature? Would also be fascinated to hear any suggestions of good books to check out. Thanks!

For the writers, artists, and the in between [Saturday 2nd May, 2009 | 9:10am]

I created a Livejournal community inspired by a Greek Pagan group I came across a while back. The community is called [info]asgardlibrary  , and it is a place where you can post art, fiction, prose, poetry, songs, anything! All of it revolving around Norse Mythology, The Voldung Saga, or anything else you wish to toss in from that point in the past. Be as creative as you want to be. Even if you want to tell a particular story from a certain God or Goddesses point of view that's fine, it would be fun :). So if you are interested you may join.

Dawning (A Norse Mythology Story) [Friday 1st May, 2009 | 6:35pm]

haruki_emishi

A while back I was going through my Pagan kick but, then out of no where it sort of failed. Well I had written this story about the forth coming of Christianity, and how the Gods saw it through their eyes. Especially one God in particular whom no one wished to believe when he spoke.....even though his words were true. Enjoy!

Today is a day for Fire Gods and marriages between Gods and Goddesses. I just wanted to pop in and say have a wonderful Beltane, and to any Nordic Pagans enjoy this Fire Festival of sorts with much feasting and merrymaking. Blessed be ^_^

Remember the story about Loki, the goat and Skadi's laughter?
Well every time I hear this song I imagine Loki and the goat "dancing" on it. Better said, I imagine this song playing when they were doing their little number.

Everytime I hear "Where Ever I May Roam" by Metallica, I immediately think of Loki since He enjoys wandering throughout the Nine Worlds. What do you think?

a quick -- and stupid -- question, which isn't REALLY related to loki even [Sunday 19th April, 2009 | 12:28am]

sirfeste
(please excuse my constant posting. i know i'm being ridiculous.)

I hear lots of talk about praying, whether it be conversational or formal. When you pray, do you do it out loud? Mentally? Does it matter? Am I panicking about completely insignificant details? (no need to answer that last one; it is rhetorical)

My theory is that a huge chunk of my problem opening any communications whatsoever is that I am so skeptical. No matter how "into" it I try to get, there is always a little voice in the back of my head, going, "This is stupid. You know this is stupid, right?"

I'm also hopeless at meditating, but practice makes perfect. Eventually.

A somewhat jarring experience: earlier this week (shortly after my initial post), I woke up in the morning, poured myself some coffee, which I take black anyway, and remember it being mentioned that The Man In Question is a fan of black coffee. I think to myself, "Maybe this would be a good time to try that offering thing."
All of a sudden, the front doorbell starts ringing itself psychotically. For like, a full half a minute. There is no one at the door. Yes, sometimes the doorbell of my house rings itself, it's something I'm used to, but I did get a sort of "NOW" impression from it.
I don't know.

Apologies for rambling. Och.

We often associate Loki with fire, but one of the more older (I believe) and original correspondences was heat lightning.

I had almost forgot I had downloaded this picture from Yahoo a week or two ago with the intention of posting it. This was captured (I don't remember what sort of filter or technique they had used) from within the smoke of a volcanic eruption (sorry, the name of the volcano is lost on me as well.)

Some people talk about seeing the 'hand of' or 'face of' God in [Insert whatever phenomenon here].

Introing. [Sunday 12th April, 2009 | 8:23pm]

sirfeste
Well, I know I've already posted here, butttt I'm posting an intro anyway. Just to get to know you guys.
So, hi, I'm Nora. I'm technically a grown up. I live in the midwest and am rather new to this whole Loki thing, though I've had a bit of a "myth-crush" on the Norse pantheon as a whole for a while now.

Funny story, so this post isn't totally useless: I do not read Tarot, or Runes, or any other sort of divination (yet...). I have a more modern form of Divination, called iPod Shuffle Reading. Put the mp3 player on shuffle, ask a question, or don't, press play, take from it what you will. It's uncanny sometimes. Like yesterday, when I was feeling very flustered about my spiritual state, and asked of the music collection very eloquently, "What the fuck is going on?" pressed play, and the song that comes on: "Burn Piano Island Burn," by -- ready for it? -- The Blood Brothers.
Commence headdesking.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi. Hi guys! *waves*
How's it going?

Lokean Otherworld [Saturday 11th April, 2009 | 1:46pm]

susan_of_mejis
[Current Mood | curious]

Ok so I've been a postwhore lately (anything so long as I can avoid studying) but the question just popped into my mind; what happens to a Lokean after death? Do we retire to Lokahall? But he doesn't even have a proper hall as far as I know. Do we join him on his endless wanderings? That is something I reeeeallly wouldn't mind, altho he strikes me as a lone wanderer, taking only Thor with him on occassions. And what if I venerate other gods too (I don't, but what if I did)? So? Any ideas?

(no subject) [Friday 10th April, 2009 | 11:49pm]

sirfeste
Well, here's the deal.
I'm generally regarded as an agnostic, which is to say (by my definition) that I've never met a god personally, but if I did I might have cause to change my mind about things. (This is just an extension about my general attitude toward life, as a skeptic, but nevermind.)
So anyway. Lately I've been getting the feeling that Loki hasn't so much been contacting me as...sort of eyeing me from across the room. Nothing huge. Just suddenly he seems to be popping up everywhere in my day-to-day life, in unconnected conversations, things like that. And odd dreams. And things that could easily just be coincidences but for some reason, for once in my life, I don't really think they are.
So, uh...what's the next step here?
I mean, I don't know - I'm shite at meditation, I don't know what sort of things he's like, and damnit, I'm just a little SHY.

I'm delighted to admit that I have no idea what I'm doing, or what I'm going to do -- anyone have some advice?

(apologies if this is totally incoherent. I'm a bit tired.)

eta. Alright, I've had a shower and some tea which made me feel a bit less exhausted, and I've decided I want to clarify my question a little.

Basically, (in the event that what I'm taking for signs aren't really just...nothing) I want to know whether it is a terribly good idea for me to make a first move at all. From what I've read from other Lokeans, the man Himself is not terribly subtle once he takes an interest in someone -- is it more wise just to wait and See What Goes Down?

Read only after you posted your opinion;

The way I see it, it can be anything from goa trance (spiced up with some mushroom or lsd) to industrial metal. Aanything you can imagine, folk, classic, even some shitty-corny pop songs. Ok well, maybe not that.
