How do I know whether a snow emergency has been declared for some areas in the metro? MyFox9 news? Is that news channel/site the most updated for snow emergencies? Wcco.com?

What exactly is a snow emergency? I know that you're supposed to have cars off of the streets during a snow emergency, but as of right now I see a snow plow going down on my street and there are like 6, 7 cars still parked on the street. That's not a snow emergency then?

Yes, I'm new here... can't you tell? :)

Here's the St. Paul page...

Basically, a snow emergency means that there are two periods for plowing main streets and residential streets. Minneapolis and St. Paul have different ways of doing this, so be careful to note which city you're in. (Other parts of the metro area probably have their own ways of doing it, but will also more than likely have a webpage that you can find via Google.)

The most important thing to note about snow emergencies is that, if your car is in the way of a plow during that time, you can be sure that your car will be ticketed (for a hefty fee!), and possibly towed.

Snow isn't even sitting on the roads where I am right now - north metro, so I really doubt they're plowing - probably just laying down sand/salt.
I can't really imagine there'd be a snow emergency when it's this warm out, but I guess you never know.

But, yeah, the above links should help you. plus you'll hear it on the tv/radio and stuff. And if there's no cars parked on a street - don't park there. It's probably clear for a reason :)

I went to kare11.com and signed up for their snow emergency alert. They email you when there is a snow emergency, and explain what that means and where you need to move your car and by when. It's really convenient.

And if there was a snow emergency, the tow truck would be hauling those cars off the road and THEN the plows would come through.

Welcome to spring in Minnesota!

I very much doubt there will be snow emergencies until next fall/winter, so you should have so time to get comfortable with the idea.
