20th-Mar-2008 09:30 am - Nosik Interview Audio
Departed - Leo and Matt
Since Nosik is denying he used terms like "idiot" and "blackmail", the audio of his interview has been provided.

If you are a Russian speaker, or you know someone who is a Russian speaker, can you please direct them here and ask them to translate/confirm what he has said?

The audio is here, it is 8MB. A big thanks to Luydmila Telen for making this available.

Highlights include:

"The announcement last Wednesday was a mistake in regards to Basic accounts, as the change was not clearly stated, it did not allow for you to provide feedback, and went into effect immediately. Many of you have pointed out that the decision worried you less than the way it was communicated. You should have been given a voice, and you were not; we didn’t follow our own rules, and we apologize.

At this point we are working on a solution to enable existing LiveJournal users to create new Basic accounts as so many of you have requested. Nothing has been decided yet, but we are considering options which would allow existing users to continue to create new Basic accounts."

ALSO, as pointed out by [info]connie_chung:

"Subscriptions – Should moderators be able to charge for access to closed communities?"

Comments also reflect a general sense of displeasure at Mr. Nosik's comments and subsequent conduct; feel free to drop LJ a line regarding this and other matters.

Finally Mr. [info]dolboeb came out with his own view on the whole basic account issue. And it is in english!

19th-Mar-2008 01:18 am - Owner of livejournal refers to userbase as 'unfriendly forces'
pensive

interview with Anton Nosik: Russian Text )

Translate from Russian to English using Babelfish and pretty it up a bit and you get:

"In this situation, where they attempt to blackmail and to intimidate us, threatening to destroy our business, there is a business-reason not to reward this behavior. This is not the simple reaction of being more resistant the more pressure is applied. The fact is that through history no successful enterprise runs by being subjugated by unfriendly forces. No change, even the most correct one, will not experience some resistance.

It would probably be best to reconsider the recent changes. But from our point of view it is now necessary to wait until after the boycott has faded. Let it pass and have the voices of protest fade. Then we can consider changing this policy.
"

*disbelief* This saga gets crazier every day! The owner of livejournal is calling lj users, the people who provide the content for the site he runs 'unfriendly forces'? *crazy* They basically agree that they made a faulty decision but will not let us "win" by admitting their mistake? Since when does livejournal users expressing their discontent over recent business decisions and censoring constitute blackmail?

Any Russian speakers willing to summarize the rest of the article?
