Owner of livejournal refers to userbase as 'unfriendly forces'

First read heard about this here

Translate from Russian to English using Babelfish and pretty it up a bit and you get:

"In this situation, where they attempt to blackmail and to intimidate us, threatening to destroy our business, there is a business-reason not to reward this behavior. This is not the simple reaction of being more resistant the more pressure is applied. The fact is that through history no successful enterprise runs by being subjugated by unfriendly forces. No change, even the most correct one, will not experience some resistance.

It would probably be best to reconsider the recent changes. But from our point of view it is now necessary to wait until after the boycott has faded. Let it pass and have the voices of protest fade. Then we can consider changing this policy.
"

*disbelief* This saga gets crazier every day! The owner of livejournal is calling lj users, the people who provide the content for the site he runs 'unfriendly forces'? *crazy* They basically agree that they made a faulty decision but will not let us "win" by admitting their mistake? Since when does livejournal users expressing their discontent over recent business decisions and censoring constitute blackmail?

Any Russian speakers willing to summarize the rest of the article?

Well, 'hostile' and 'unfriendly forces' are things I can certainly see winding up as roughly-synonymous translations.
And well- there has been a lot of anger and hostility around the current 'basic go bye-bye' foofaraw, that I've seen. I can imagine that LJ Inc.'s seen more of it than I have.

well his argument is that basic account on LJ is anachronism and no other blogging service has such a thing all of the other ones are paid or have some form of ads. which is complete bs. another thing is that only 10% of new bloggers create basic account the rest choose Plus or Paid. So why not leave the basic if it doesn't matter anyway.

Complete BS in favorite Nossik's way - everyone around me are retards and i'm the only smart one.

They should stop to consider that we also have no reason to reward their behavior.

*sigh* And that's probably the end of it. There's not much point arguing with Russians; they won't hesitate to destroy something to keep it out of enemy hands. Well, it was fun while it lasted.

This is seriously insane.

Seriously...

Where can I get an archive tool? See... I've been on LJ for the last four years, and I... don't want to lose any of my content- thank you no...

Goddess this angers me!

This both angers and saddens me, and makes me determined to NEVER give LiveJournal any more of my money. As soon as my paid account is up, I'm out of here permanently.

(I'd be out of here sooner, but I've been asked very nicely to stay on LJ for a while, so I'm going to do my best to do so.)

Waiiit, what? Aren't you supposed to silence the protesters... especially if you're already planning to make a change, why not stop people from getting more upset and do it right away rather than waiting.

Edited to add:

I am honestly now considering leaving LiveJournal. I've been here for seven years, and even with all the suggestions of leaving that were here before, I never wanted to do it. I'm too connected, too tied to LJ. I renewed my account in January because I didn't want to see ads, and I like LiveJournal, even though I've been upset with the direction they've been going. And now, honestly, I think I'm going to remove all my stuff via LJarchive and delete all my content and just leave a note that states why the journal has been emptied and where to find me. I can't delete my account because I know my friends won't follow me off LJ, so I'll need to read my friends page, but I will not contribute anymore. I haven't decided totally to do this, but it is the direction I'm leaning.

Mr. Nossik is not our owner, his position is Social Media Evangelist. In this interview he just expressed his personal opinion, you know, and the final decisions are always up to our management that is completely independent of him.

Greetings from Russia =).
I've archived my blog (public one and few private journals) and moved to blogger.com soon after SUP had bought LJ. I've kept my lj-account in order to _read_ my friends' journals and communities which still stay at LJ. And I'm not the only one who did that =).

Firstly, 'cos there's no privacy for your content (including you private posts) while the service is ruled by a russian company. Any Russian knows that =).

Besides, people who work in SUP and make decisions are famous for doing nothing useful or smart: they've just found an investor - and they "milk" the investor. That's the story. They don't care about the service or users or content or anything but money they can get until everybody leaves LJ.

They failed to earn money by providing useful and interesting options. They failed to earn money by making ads comfortable and not that annoying. It seems they failed to "sell" LJ to advertisers. So they start pressing.
That's the only thing they know how to do: give option away, not adding new one.

So, IMHO, there's only one way - out of LJ to other services. Or you'll have to strike every quarter +) And they'll call it a war, they'll call you an enemy and they'll destroy the service but never admit your victory.

This is an unsettling read, but thank you for the translation. I'm all for the strike, but I agree with the above commenter - the only real solution is for users to leave en masse, and I don't really see that happening :/

Look, people, there's a much more efficient way of protesting, one that doesn't require you to leave LJ or stay silent for a day. One simple action - and the effect is overwhelming and ongoing. And no need to coordinate our actions in time.

Everyone should install a trusted, harmless and absolutely legal banner killing software. I haven't done it myself yet for a simple reason: I understand ads are vital for the Internet and they are OK with me. So I just kill annoying pop-ups. But if we're talking protest, it's the perfect tool, and I'm gonna install one of these babies right now.

I can't recommend a particular software, but here's a list:
http://www.supershareware.com/get/banner-blocker.html

Now, I guess there's an option in any decent banner-killing software to kill ads from a certain site. So, be honest and kill banners only at livejournal.com.

You can imagine the effect. If we can do it together, there will be a sharp drop in LJ users' exposure to advertising, and that will make advertisers very discontent with SUP. Very. Let the bastards taste some REAL blackmailing :)))

If you agree, please, spread the word.

This is very unsettling. What ever happened to "The customer is always right"? The only way to please the customers is to cater to them on some level, and when such a large portion of the userbase is in uproar about the current scenario, telling them that they are the "unfriendly forces" and essentially saying that you don't care what they're doing now, and you want them to shut up is not anywhere near catering to them.

Clearly Mr. Nossik missed that memo.
