LJ-Sec updated to version 0.74

Jan. 12th, 2009 | 12:10 pm
posted by: [info]soundwave106 in [info]ljsec

LJ-Sec is a bulk journal entry management tool. It allows you to bulk change post security, delete posts, find and replace items, repost journal entries to other LJ-compatible servers, and other assorted odds and ends.

The following issues were fixed in this release:
  • Metadata was not properly transferred when reposting entries in some previous versions of LJ-Sec. This has now been fixed.
  • The meta data options for reposting has changed. This is because different sites use different meta data options, and a site may reject a post if invalid meta data is present. So now, by default, only common meta data (mood, music, your user pic, and tags) is transferred over. You can still, of course, attempt to transfer all metadata if you want to.
  • The "load new configuration and relogin" option now actually works.

    Entries left out while reposting.

I attempted to move 9,100 entries to another journal, but 3,998 were left out, the error log said due to backdate option not being on, but it was.

So I attempted to start moving the ones that got left, and even if I try one at at time, with backdate carefully checked, it gives me the same error. Moving 3,998 entries one by one is not as bad as 9,100, but I'd still rather not have to do it.

    Said error:

The following journal entry failed to be posted due to the following server error:
    (text of post was here)
Error message: Incorrect time value: Your most recent journal entry is dated 2005-05-02 03:37, but you're trying to  post one at 2000-05-04 07:54 without the backdate option turned on.  Please check your computer's clock.  Or, if  you really mean to post in the past, use the backdate option.

EDIT: I figured out why it's those entries, so sorry if this is a known issue. But it's all the ones without subject lines that it saw as being not backdated, if I put anything into the subject line, then it posts it without the backdate error. So I just have to put something in the subject line on the remaining 3,994 unless it starts working.

    Reposting to another journal site

    posted by: [info]vilakins in [info]ljsec

I have been experimenting with transferring my journal to InsaneJournal, and have some questions about the transfer (or not) of meta data. The help states that "LJ-Sec will normally attempt to transfer extended properties, such as mood, icons, tags, etc" but it doesn't seem to. What conditions make it fail, or not try to?

I have some icons set up but the few posts I've transferred are all set to the default one, even if the keywords match an icon already on IJ. Are icons keywords transferred at all, does anyone know?

No tags have gone across. Do I need to set up empty tags before doing any more reposting?

    LJ-Sec updated to v0.60

LJ-Sec is a bulk journal entry management tool. It allows you to bulk change post security, delete posts, find and replace items, and repost journal entries to other LJ-compatible servers. LJ-Sec has been updated to version 0.60 today.

    This adds several features:

  • Community management. Finally, you can use this to back up and repost communities!

Caveat: Livejournal obviously won't let you repost or edit some other person's entry as anybody other than yourself, so LJ-Sec treats these entries differently. Read the documentation for more information.

  • Configurations. Configurations can now be loaded and saved, which makes managing multiple journals easier. A new configuration manager brings forth many settings previously hidden.

  • Other changes:

You can override the default behavior in regards to the cache that stores journal entries, and utilize your own file. Again, this makes managing multiple journals easier.

You can now disable the "resynchronize on login" feature if you want.

New options for selecting posts: "Select inverse" and "Select My Entries Only" (the later option is mainly for community management)

Resynchronization should now show a bit less of those "server retries" errors.

LJ-Sec now requires the .NET framework version 2.0. IE 5.0 is also required. All posts also must be in Unicode in order for LJ-Sec to sync right (you can convert older posts here).

Backing up your journal using a tool like LJArchive is strongly recommended before using LJ-Sec.

LJ-Sec is a bulk journal entry management tool. It allows you to bulk change post security, delete posts, find and replace items, and repost journal entries to other LJ-compatible servers. LJ-Sec has been updated to version 0.55 today.

This fixes two issues with international settings (Cyrillic tags and titles would get wiped on edit; systems using European dates could not synchronize properly); enhances the error logging system and throws up a couple of more user friendly error messages; and makes it more difficult to accidentally repost entries in your own journal. Some other minor updates were performed to the GUI, plus there are some behind-the-scenes improvements. Thanks to [info]vargtimmen for some coding support.

Future items on the todo list include enhanced configuration management and community support.

    LJ-Sec updated to v0.5

    May. 31st, 2007 | 05:13 pm
    posted by: [info]soundwave106 in [info]ljsec

LJ-Sec, a program that allows you to change post security, delete posts, find and replace items, and more, has been updated today to version 0.5.

This adds a new feature -- the ability to repost journal entries from one account to another, whether you are on Livejournal or elsewhere. You can select as many entries as you like to transfer -- from one to all. Select only entries with certain keywords using find; select only certain security levels; etc.

The transfer has some limitations. The biggest one is that comments will not transfer. That significantly limits the usefulness of this feature, but it seems that some would still find a post-only transfer to be useful. There's a good chance custom security groups won't transfer either (though you can try). If transferring cross-server, features not supported on the receiving server obviously won't transfer, either. The rest should transfer pretty nicely.

As usual, LJ-Sec requires the .NET framework 1.1 and IE 5.0; all posts also must be in Unicode in order for LJ-Sec to sync right (you can convert older posts here). The Mono compatible fork, for experimenting on other platforms, has also been updated.

LJ-Sec, a program that allows you to change post security, delete posts, find and replace items, and more, has been updated today.

This fixes a bug setting custom security. If you, over your lifetime, deleted any security group, you could experience issues selecting and changing custom security entries. This should be fixed.

The Mono framework fork was also played around with today a bit, I changed a few things to get around a few Mono bugs. There is a known issue with custom security posts not being able to be selected for some reason in the Mono version, but other aspects were significantly cleaned up.

LJ-Sec, a program that allows you to change post security, delete posts, find and replace items, and more, has been updated today.

This fixes a synchronization bug that could occur on a user account with few journal entries and lots of other Livejournal items (like todo items and/or comments in communities). In this case, the synchronization would hang. There shouldn't be a need to upgrade if you are not experiencing this bug.

LJ-Sec, a program that allows you to change post security, delete posts, find and replace items, and more, has been updated today.

    This adds the following abilities:
  • Added the ability to search and select items by searching subject line, tags, or journal entries (one or all). Tag search was not in previous editions of the program.
  • Find and replace now has been extended to find and replace either/or the subject line, tags, or the journal entry itself. Find and replace also allows you to search on posts you have selected on the main screen, only (previous editions would search the whole journal).
  • Added the ability to search for posts with no tags.
  • The search window previously would crash when searching on no terms; this has been fixed.
  • The preview window now shows tags as well as the subject line and the post.
  • Corrected some timing issues.
  • Corrected some documentation.

There was a suggestion for LJ code to handle this, but since ljsec already has a large portion of the functionality, it might be more appropos to go here.
