This is driving me nuts....

...a recent episode of Family Guy featured Stewie and his family visiting Toys 'R' Overrated. Stewie was playing with a timed game that was popular during the 80's. It had small yellowish pieces that fit on the top of the game. The case around the outside of the game was red. Each piece had a designated shape that corresponded on the board with a picture of that shape(?) It was timed and if you didn't fit the shapes in properly during the time allotted, the platform beneath it would pop up and the shapes would go everywhere. I'm probably not describing this very well. Can anyone tell me what the name of this game was?

Talking about politics

One theory as to why it's hard for people to talk about politicsis that everyone, regardless of their party affiliation, responds emotionally when making political decisions. According to Drew Westin in The Political Brain:The Role of Emotion in Deciding the Fate of the Nation, trying to think dispassionately about things, even politics, is like trying to overcome thousands of years of evolution. I tend to enjoy talking with people whose political beliefs are different than my own and have found that underneath all the politics, we tend to agree more than we would at first have thought. What have other people's experiences been?

cubicle air quality

Who has those cubicle walls made of the bad carpet stuff, which, in addition to the actual carpet under your feet and the piles of paperwork, files, books, etc in your office, create tons of dust in your work area? You can control your desk, but not much else.

Do you have an air purifier/ionizer? Any models you like, preferably small enough for a desktop and with a permanent filter, and not too too expensive?

Thanks!

it's easy to see the mistakes that people make

when it comes to dating and marriage when we are looking at it in a specific scenario but it's often harder to make the more intelligent decisions when we are in the midst of the actual situation. Lord knows I have chosen the path that shouldn't be travelled more than once when it comes to romantic choices.

Do you think online dating contributes to that by promising romance and marriage and thus making us more focused on the outcome of a dating sitatuation rather than focusing on the quality of the interaction from the beginning?

That being said, we are all less than perfect in some way and often seems that people want to find their "perfect soulmate." Do many relationships/marriages fail because people cover up their baggage and bad habits at first?
Isn't it possible that the stongest friendships/relationships come when two people watch/help each other evolve and grow?

So... how do you think it'll go tonight?

By the way, dunno if any of you guys remember who the Emergency Broadcast Network were, but they were this sort of political leaning art group... and now they're called Eclectic-method...

anyway, they did this video remix of InnerPartySystem's "Don't Stop" video that is very very very timely for tonight's debate.

Check it:
<lj-embed id="44" />

And then you can do your own remix:
<lj-embed id="45" />

Has anyone listened to the Xanadu soundtrack recently? I mean, REALLY listened to it? (Two questions with a highly dubious amount of positive answers. Hopefully in this forum I'll get some hits from contemporaries.)

I just got it, and after not listening to it for about 28 years, I never realized that about 70% of the music on that album is love songs. Only 3 were really just about being groovy. (Although I would argue that "I'm Alive" is a love song.)

Anyway, I was kind of listening to it with a new ear, (although I always adored it), especially since I had the attention of a gnat on meth when I was in fourth grade. (My attention span is still that of a gnat, but a sober gnat.) and I was paying attention to the lyrics. Jesus, man, it's a fuckin beautiful album.

I mean, "Suspended In Time" and "Don't Walk Away"? Holy fuck! And what about "Whenever you're away".

And I have to say, my favorite of the "groovy good times" songs on the album is "Alll Over the World"

Jeff Lyne is god.

Happy Birthday to the master

A very happy eighty-eighth birthday to Ray Bradbury.

I grew up reading my older brother's Bradbury books. No one can paint with words like that man.

"There was a smell of time in the air tonight. What did time smell like? Like dust and clocks and people. And if you wondered what time sounded like, it sounded like water running in a dark cave and voices crying and dirt dropping down upon hollow box lids and rain. And, going further, what did time look like? Time looked like snow dropping silently into a black room or it looked like a silent film in an ancient theater, one hundred billion faces falling like those New Year's balloons, down and down into nothing. That was how time smelled and looked and sounded, and tonight you could almost touch time."

A master.

Question:
What comes to mind when you see these images.

I can't help but laugh, roll my eyes and say 'Aw-my-gawd'

_________________________

__________________________________

__________________________________________________

It just gets worse ......

I have a friend who's never seen the Lord & Lady Douchebag sketch from Saturday Night Live. I can't find it online! I've found some transcripts but no video. Can anyone out there help?

JC Penney Breakfast Club

What do you think of the new JC Penney Commercial that is like a min-remake of The Breakfast Club?

I'm kind of saddened by it. It would be one thing to remake the whole movie, but to use it to sell clothes? I do like the song though.
