the_xtina, have a large-ish friends list. So when I ask a question, the chances are high that I'll at least get a lead or two, if not an answer. This is a great thing for me, but an unuseful feature for those who only have a handful of readers.

Thus,

ljgenie was born!

All posts absolutely must start with "Dear LJ Genie" or some variant thereof. You're asking the LJ Genie for assistance, so it pays to be polite.

And then you get answers. It's up to you to decide whether these answers work for you. If they do, fabulous! Let the answerer know, so that other observers know what worked. If they don't, fabulous! Let the answer know, et cetera and so forth.

The secondary purpose, as you may have guessed, is to have a community with people-tested answers. Because you know what'd be very annoying, very quickly? A community filled with questions and unconfirmed answers.

So join, and ask and answer questions! The more people there are in here, the better your chances of getting a good answer!

* The first post you make to this community will be sent to the moderation queue. One of us will then approve it, and will add you to the list of approved posters. This cuts down on the chances of trolling, and makes expelling trolls a lot easier. So don't fret if your first post takes a few to go live.

* Posts must start with "Dear LJ Genie:", or words to that effect. You technically can post without it, but one of us will reminderise you, and may remove the post if you refuse to adhere.

* I had free tagging for a while, but someone had to be an ass about it. Currently, you can tag your post with anything in the tags list. If you want to use a tag but don't see it, please suggest that it be added!

* Please respond to comments that were helpful to you. This doesn't mean every comment ever, of course. But if a comment helped you at all, from a mental spark to a lead to an outright solution, you must comment and let the person know. And thank them! Let's try to be polite, mm?

* And the usual:

1) No spam, advertisements, personal ads, and so forth.
2) No rhetorical questions! Goodness gracious.
3) All images must be behind an lj-cut. Same goes for any logfile content you feel you must post.
4) Try to be serious. "Why can't I get laid?" is a question, but I'll trust yall freakin' know better than that.
5) Be nice, for heaven's sake.
