I'm not sure this made any national headlines in the past few months or not, but Montana was facing a "personhood amendment" initiative going on the November ballot.  The extremists getting signatures need to get 45, 000 by June 20th.  Luckily, they failed!

I am so proud of all the organization that sprouted up in response to this initiative.  Go Pro-Choice Montana!
Let's hope and pray that similar initiatives coming up across the nation will also fail.

CI-100 never had a chance. Montana is so very protective of our "none of my business" rights, and I think this is the fourth or fifth time Jore's tried to pull this crap. The last estimate I heard, he hadn't even gotten half the signatures he needed. He couldn't even get pro-life groups to back him.

It's funny, because prior to living here, I wouldn't have thought of Montana as a state that's fairly protective of the right to choise, but the state does tend to trend that way.

Rick Jore is such a nut. I'm still astounded he was ever elected.

I whole-heartedly agree. I don't think Montana is as conservative as people believe. Luckily, the state's constitution provides a "right to privacy" clause which makes it even more difficult for this kind of legislation to pass.
Thank god, Rick Jore is termed, so his seat is up. Hopefully we'll get John Flemming (D) elected in his place.

Exactly! I moved from Montana to Massachusetts 2 years ago, and while I could marry a woman here if I wanted to, it's somewhat harder to get an abortion. Go figure.
