I wanted to share a little devotional from Pastor Matt of Flood Church in San Diego
Have you ever felt God has left you hanging? This powerful passage is found in Mark 5:21-43 and presents a parental side to Jesus. We see Jesus being incredibly responsive to the urgent request of a desperate father whose 12-year old daughter was on her death bed. Though responsive, Jesus seems easily distracted when someone touches him in the midst of a huge crowd. He stops and asks the disciples, "Who touched me?" The disciples respond incredulously, "Are you kidding me? Why does this matter who touched you? A lot of people have touched you in this massive crowd! This little girl needs you, now!" Yet, Jesus stops to uncover this seemingly irrelevant mystery. Why?
Doesn't he realize this girl's life hangs in the balance and time is of the essence? Or is God's sense of timing different than ours?
When news reached Jesus in Capernaum that His friend Lazarus was dying in Bethany, he stalled, dallied, and came late. What's going on here? What's going on here is that God's sense of timing always confounds ours? The blessing we desire never seems to come when we want it.
God's plans do not seem to operate according to our schedule. Does that ever bother you? It sure bothers me. I do believe that Jesus is the Son of God who created all things, but why would he know better than me how my life should go? If it feels like God is delaying doing something in your life, you must remember that there are factors that you are unaware of. You and I have a limited perspective. We can't see the whole story, but God can. God's word to us when we don't understand what He is doing in our lives is the same word He gave to this desperate father in the hour of his greatest need: Trust me. Are you trusting him?
I just really liked this week's devotional because sometimes we just need a reminder that God's timing isn't our timing, and when we're asking God "why hasn't this happened yet" it doesn't mean God's forgotten or isn't getting there, just that maybe there's other things that are also important that God wants to do in your life (even) on the way there.
