Atlanta vs LJAtlanta So technically this community was formed first, but that means beans in the intranets.
The deal as to why there are two is the guy who created Atlanta either did not realize LJATlanta existed or maybe did not appreciate that it was a community for ATLANTA based stuff only and thought to create the Atlanta community.
So now they are both big (Atlanta is bigger) and kind of annoying to post to and have both on your friends list. Kind of redundant. I know a lot of people like the fact that we moderate this to weed out the 2000 word posts with no cuts or things that have nothing to do with Atlanta. Also, the LJAtlanta community hides NSFW stuff because I know a lot of people look at LJ at work.
I personally have no problem deleting this community, but I do know others get annoyed at the Atlanta community. What are your thoughts? |

Question, and Im sure there will be witty, snarky, and trolling responses...after all, it is Livejournal, BUT, why do we have multiple Atlanta forums?
I remember reading this question years ago, and the response was Atlanta and LjAtlanta had two different purposes. Now i see the same posts on both, fine...no big deal there, i scroll past the duplicate. But why not combine them?
Is there a set and distinct reason for them both to exist? Does it matter? Do you like tacos?
Anyone? |

Cobb residents who use CCT I recently noticed that CCT does not have any town hall meetings/hearings scheduled...at all. I am not sure if I just missed out on recent ones by not paying attention...you have to go through 2 "sub-windows" (if I can call them that) from the home page to look at the hearings/meetings listings...but atleast I didn't have to go down to the cellar, with a flashlight, looking in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the Leopard...lol.
Anyway, given the recent times we went through with gasoline, I find it strange, and disheartening, that CCT has not offered to lend an ear to hear if there is anything that they might do to make it more desirable for we, the residents of this county, to utilize CCT to help us all cut down on using limited natural resources, and keep a little money in our pocket at the same time.
There is one direct route I can use to get to work, but by the time I get to either of the "local" the park and rides, I have spent 2/3 of the amount of gas that I could have used to get to work, and that bus only goes to Dunwoody station on weekdays, and are spotty connections even then (depending on time of day). And taking GRTA is not very helpful, since I work the evening shift sometimes (the last GRTA bus leaves Civic Center at 7:05).
I have noticed that many people are not fond of CCT's limited routes and scheduling, and that they seem to have a NIMBY attitude towards MARTA.
I have emailed CCT urging them to host a hearing/meeting or two to learn where they can improve their service so that those of us who cannot tele-commute would be more inclined to use public transportation and save our limited natural resources (and our wallet). Please join me in this, and maybe we can show them with an expanding population, and with residents who are having to geographically expand their job searches, offering more reliable and farther reaching routes is a good thing.

Boycott Petco I just received this from the director of the shelter where my wife ( neophobic) and I volunteer. This is important enough that it warrants sharing. Subject: Urgent Action Needed: Boycott/Email Petco --- Kicking out all Atlanta animal rescue groups from their stores for a very bad reason! Please crosspost far and wide because this situation at Petco may soon affect all areas in the US!!!!!!! Atlanta Humane Society is at it yet again! It wasn't enough that in the past month they sponsored a rodeo so that they could profit off of the brutal treatment of animals. Now, they are demanding that long standing, reputable rescue and humane organizations be kicked out of Petco's so Atlanta Humane can have exclusive rights to adopt animals there.
Petco is starting a new program and is building adoption centers inside their stores in Atlanta. But instead of Petco allowing their numerous longstanding adoption partners who adopt at their store every weekend to use the adoption centers, they have worked out a secretive, behind-closed-doors agreement with Atlanta Humane Society and are planning to give Atlanta Humane exclusive rights as the only group that can adopt animals at all the stores with the adoption centers. Under this contract, they won't even let groups stand outside the store and adopt animals if it is a store with an adoption center. And they plan to sign this exclusive contract within a few days!!!! We have to stop them before this happens! How could this have happened? Well Petco first offered Atlanta Humane Society only the adoption centers in Petco's that didn't have adoption partners. But that wasn't good enough for Atlanta Humane Society and instead they demanded to see the adoption numbers for all the stores and then they demanded (bullied) exclusive rights to adopt animals in the nine stores which they chose, even though rescue and adoption groups were already adopting animals at those stores. And Petco is planning to say OK. Please help us to stop Petco from signing the contract by doing the following three things ASAP! Remember, this is urgent because they plan to sign soon and this might happen to Petco's in your area too! 1. Crosspost this email far and wide and ask everyone to email Petco. 2. Email Petco at the following email addresses and tell them you are going to boycott Petco and tell all your friends to boycott Petco if they sign this contract and throw even one rescue group out of any of their Atlanta stores. Tell them that they take their cues from Petsmart and offer their adoption centers to their longstanding adoption partners who already are adopting animals at their stores before they offer them to anyone else. And for those stores that don't have adoption partners, Petco shouldn't give a monopoly to one group and should instead let other rescue groups know about the opportunity. paulj@petco.com pjolly@petco.com petcofoundation@petco.com lisae@petco.com kmeader@petco.com karenm@petco.com Besides emailing, fill out this form and let them know how you feel about what is going on at the Atlanta stores: http://www.petco.com/content/contactsubtopic.aspx?PC=contactcompany&nav=173. Email and call the President of the Atlanta Humane Society, Carl Leveridge, and tell him that he should stick to Petco stores that do not already have adoption partners and he should not try to bully/kick out rescue groups from what is often their only avenue for adoption. His contact information is: Carl Leveridge president@atlantahumane.org 404.974.2888 Hurry before the contract is signed and it is too late! Warning! and a Question I did everything I was supposed to do to be a conscientious gas consumer. Last night I waited until 10:45pm when my tank was below 1/8 of tank to head out to get gas. Everything was fine until I waited in line at the BP at Hwy 9 and Windward for 45 minutes, idling while my low fuel light was on. The pump behaved a little oddly for the guy in front of me and he had to restart the pump a few times while filling up his own tank, but he seemed satisfied eventually and drove off. At this point I thankfully pumped my $85 in gas rather uneventfully (minus the ability to print a receipt, as the printer was broken) and headed off ...except my fuel light didn't turn off. I didn't notice this until I was already down the street about a mile. I thought perhaps I was just really low and it was taking a while to raise the fuel gauge. I should have known better. I paid $85 for gas I didn't actually get. Luckily I made it home, but I have officially run out of gas in my own garage and have had to call a coworker to take me to work this morning. I'm not really sure what to do at this point. I tried calling the station to report this, but they are not answering their phones. Should I call the police? Make annoyed blog posts on LJ? I can dispute the charge with Visa, so I'm not overly concerned about the money. Has this happened to anyone else and what did you do? Current Mood: angry |

I have gas QT at 675 & Forest Parkway had gas 3 hours ago - short line, several QT employees directing traffic - all pumps flowing.
NOTE: QT's gas is horrible. My car started pinging like it was about to come apart, so I stopped by Autozone and bought something called "Octane Booster 108". That solved the pinging - my car is running great again. |

Going to The Tabernacle tonight? Do me a favor? Anyone out there going to the Cheech & Chong show(s) this evening? I didn't manage to score tickets but I'd gladly pay someone back if they could grab me an XL t-shirt: the black one with the lighter on the front & the dates of the shows on the back? Lemme know! Thanks!!! Current Mood: hopeful |
