Hello, I hope you are doing well. I recently downloaded and tried using ljArchive, which looks like a great piece of software. Unfortunately, instead of archiving my own LiveJournal, I would like to archive a friend's so that I can get it published for her. My friend will be getting married in a few months and I would like to have all her LiveJournal entries published in a book and give it to her as a wedding gift, but have not been able to find a way to download all her journal entries. Unfortunately, I do not have access to her password, neither can I log into her account in any way. I am, however, a friend of hers in LiveJournal. Is there anyway I can download all of her journal entries, even if it is not by using ljArchive? Any other recommendations or suggestions would help as well. Thank you. |

I'm about ready to give up on ljarchive. I just bought a new system, installed ljarchive, and got the same sync error that I got on my old machine! This new machine has NOTHING in common with the old one, except that I installed some similar software on it. Could the problem be FireFox? I don't know. No one seems to have a definitive answer. I hate to ask, but is there any decent alternative to ljarchive? Because I really need to back up my journal...it has been more than a year now. |

I installed LJ Archive in early 2007 and it worked... for a few months. Since August 2007 it won't update. I have:
I finally figured out why - you have to put IE's proxy server as automatic detection - hopefully this will help out some people. ( The error ) |

| I'm using ljArchive to back up a couple of communities over at gj, so I can upload the files as attachments for a wiki. At the moment I can't upload one of them as it's too big. Is there any way to limit how many (and specify which) entries are backed up? Or to divide the files into two? | ||||||||

| Is there anyone who can point me to an alternate place to download ljarchive from? Or can someone upload it to somewhere like Megaupload for me to download from? Sourceforge won't load for me when I try to access it, and I'd really like to try this out. | ||||||

Can you password lock Lj Archive? I seem to remember that it's possible... I just haven't been able to figure it out. I looked in the memories, but there are none! I googled for an FAQ and there aren't any! Seems to me that there should be something. Maybe I'm blind. That's possible. Anything's possible :) Thanks! |

Hi, I feel stupid for asking this, but here goes: I just downloaded LJ archive (all the buzz about basic accounts makes me nervous) and got it to start up okay. But now I have a window telling me that I need to "set my encoding setting before your journal can be downloaded" and that "this setting can be found at your journal's web site, at the bottom of the 'Edit Personal Information' page in the 'Auto-convert older entries from' box." Problem is, it's not there. The bottom of my Edit Personal Information page shows my contact info, text messaging info, and Friends settings, but nothing about Auto-converting older entries. The phrase sounds really familiar and I know I've seen it somewhere before. What's embarassing is that I've scoured my LJ settings for about an hour and I can't find the stupid thing, and the FAQ's are no help. Anyone feel like enlightening me? |

LJarchive saves the tags but when I save in xml and then import into Wordpress, the information doesn't translate into the tags on the Wordpress add-on. The export options LJarchive's XML Writer allows for MoodField and MusicField to be exported but not tags? Is there a fix for this? |

| I got my entire journal archived, but I'm on a paid account, so I had a lot of posts that were mostly pictures. They're showing up in my archive right now, but I'm afraid that when I get rid of this journal, my pictures will all be gone. Does LJarchive keep the picture files too? Or is there some way I can save them and have the archive read them from my computer? | ||||

I have a problem with one LJ archive backup (created with LJarchive 0.9.7). The archive functions well as an lja file, but when I try to export (to html or xml) I get the error message below. This happens only in the archive with comments. I made a second archive of the same LJ, without comments, and this exports fine. I've tried to make a new archive with comments, and I get the same error. I have archives with comments of other LJs that don't encounter this problem. Anyone has any idea what's going on and how to fix it? Any help appreciated. ************** Exception Text ************** System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Length cannot be less than zero. Hi :) I just downloaded ljarchive last night, along with an updated version of .NET. However, every time I try to upload my journal I get this message ( here ) I don't know what I'm doing wrong, or if something just isn't set right on my computer. I was so excited to find this download, and I'm really hoping that I can get it to work. Any help would be awesome :D Also, I am using Windows XP. |

My entire archive was apparently just destroyed. I tried to create a new one (with a new filename, of course), and got the same disturbing error message: ljArchive Error: System.Data.ConstraintException: Failed to enable constraints. One or more rows contain values violating non-null, unique, or foreign-key constraints. at System.Data.DataSet.FailedEnableConstrai at System.Data.DataSet.EnableConstraints() at System.Data.DataSet.set_EnforceConstrain at System.Data.DataTable.EndLoadData() at EF.ljArchive.Engine.Sync.Merge(Journal j, EventCollection ec, CommentCollection cc, UserMapCollection umc, SyncItemCollection deletedsic, LoginResponse lr, DateTime lastSync) at EF.ljArchive.Engine.Sync.ThreadStart() Any idea what the problem could be? |

A few months ago I used LJ Archive and have since reformatted my cpu. Recently I tried installing the latest version and I keep getting ( this ) error message. I figure that something's wrong with my cpu but I have no idea. Is this a bug? Has this happened to anyone else? How can I get it to work ? The program won't even open. Will greatly appreciate feedback. Thanks! |

Hi! I downloaded ljarchive the other day to back up a couple of journals, but the servers don't seem to be working, at least for me. I've checked out my firewalls to see if they're the ones preventing me from connecting, but they all say that ljarchive is allowed to connect to the internet. So... I guess it's not my computer, but that the servers are down instead. It's what I can only conclude right now. Here's the error I'm constantly getting when I try to connect to ljarchive: ( Read more... ) Is there a step that I missed and that I need to do to make it work? I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out or if there's another lj archive program I can use if ljarchive's servers are constantly down. Thanks. :) Edit: Fixed! Thanks everyone for all your help! |

| I have just managed to back up all of my livejournals and communities using ljArchive by borrowing a windoze slaptop. Does anyone know of any way that the .LJA files can be run/viewed/searched on a non-windoze platform such as Mac OSX or Linux/BSD/*nix? | ||||||||

Just discovered that if you change the tags on some old entries, LJArchive does not refresh the journal entry and pick up the change. Makes me wonder if, should I go back and edit an old entry, will THOSE changes be picked up. |

I was able to get this working with a medium-sized community of about 20,000 journal entries and 80,000 comments. Hints for first-time users (like me): * Upgrade to the newest version of .NET before starting, just in case. * Do not check the box for "alternate server". * When it asks for community name, don't include the path. You may be able to choose it from the list box (takes several seconds to show the choices) - if that's available, do it that way rather than typing it in. * When you run the program, it should log in within a minute. * On the original archive, it will start by showing numbers on the sync index at the bottom of the screen. For me, the second number was 38,862, and the first one was increasing. When the first got to the number of main journal entries, it finished and went on to the next step. According to another post I read here, if the first number exceeds the second, it is looping and you might as well stop it. There was a fix posted for that - I don't have the link offhand. With this particular community, running on a dsl connection at about 600k, the program took 8 seconds per thousand to download the sync indices, 83 seconds per thousand to download the journal entries, and 5 seconds per thousand for the comments. When it finished downloading, the merge took around a couple of hours. A number of hours later I did a sync - there were about 400 new entries (journal plus comments), and it executed perfectly and very fast - a minute or two I think - wasn't timing it. Because I have over 10,000 comments, I am missing usernames on many of them because of a bug - there is a fix for that too, and I'll have to get it and start over with this community. I don't mind, now that I know it all works. What's not yet working is the big community - I'll report on that as I experiment. ================ Now I have downloaded this file and replaced the original on my computer: http://fawx.org/fixcm/EF.ljArchive.Engi Once it was in there, I deleted my original archive file and archived the community again. With the new dll file, it now gives all the names on all of the comments. |

Hi, I downloaded the program and I have a question or four... 1. I have more than one journal to save. For some reason, it doesn't want to do that. 2. How do you SAVE an archive so you don't have to keep loading it? 3. ._. Why is it not showing ALL my entries? Thanks for any help. x_x |
