The note for this string says:
It is important for the JavaScript on this page to work that this string remains a single line without linebreaks. Additionally, it must not contain any quotation marks.
This is no longer true, and hasn't been true for years. You can use both line breaks and quotes in it.
20th-May-2009 02:02 pm - Translation system strangeness
annoyed
Okay, this is happening for probably the tenth time now. What's seriously up with the translation system reverting translated strings in a certain language into their previous versions and setting them as level 1? If you look at the Finnish translation (http://www.livejournal.com/translate/edit.bml?lang=fi) as an example, most of the items haven't changed in English even once, but they're still marked level 1. The Finnish version has been reverted into the previous change, though. This keeps resulting in strangeness when parts of the page appear like they were ages ago.

It's a huge annoyance trying to fix this by hand time after time. Could the devs please look into this, maybe this has something to do with making new releases and the oldness of the translation system not working well together? I'd prefer not to have this happen over and over again like it has done... After all, all of the languages seem to suffer from this (except for English and Russian, apparently).
Death
Hi there,

I seem to remember this is the place to go to suggest changes to text on LJ, even in English? If not, I do apologise.
cut in case this is offtopic )

If I'm in the wrong place, please could someone redirect me?

Thanks guys :)

19th-Feb-2009 09:13 pm - One new member in the Ukrainian team
maluch
Hi, I'm Roman, the maintainer of the Ukrainian translation team.

Today I've got a message about my account prolongation. Thanks a lot for it. But I have one new member in my team since the previous poll and she has no paid account activated yet. I'd like to surprise her cause she is an excellent team worker.

Can anyone responsible fix this?
7th-Feb-2009 11:27 pm - Translation request, for LJ Support
"Cartooney crab holding drink"
Hi, guys:

Could you translate the following paragraphs, for use in support answers:
Thank you for your report. To report translation errors in (language), please see the profile for (community), http://community.livejournal.com/(community)/profile.
and
Thank you for your report. The (language) translators have been notified, and will review the translation as soon as possible. In the future, you can report translation errors for (language) as explained in the profile for (community), http://community.livejournal.com/(community)/profile.
In both cases, (language) is the language or dialect you translated this in (eg, German, Brasilian Portuguese, or Norwegian Nynorsk) and (community) the LJ translation community for that language.

Hi

By now, all the items in Russian translation marked as Sev.2 show diff which demonstrates previous state of english text. (You can easily check this.)

For example, here is items list and here are examples of inappropriate diffs.

Could you be so kind and fix diffing system? Thank you in advance.
27th-Nov-2008 02:58 pm - English (LJ) = Russian?

Erm... Anyone want to explain what's up with translation items [widget] widget.qotd.700.subject and [widget] widget.qotd.700.text?
English (LJ):
Что читаем?

English (LJ):
Какую книгу вы прочитали последней?

I'd love to translate them, but Russian pretending to be English really isn't something I can handle...

Friendly staff member here to say hello, and send you love, because you don't get enough of it from us and I hope we can fix that in the future.

I have a few other questions for you!

* Is your language's team working well together? Do you need more people? Is the lead translator active and responding to your questions, if you have them?

* What is your wish list of technical features that would help you translate more efficiently? It's been a long time since we upgraded anything having to do with the translation system and I would like to get you the tools you need to make it easier to help out.

* What else can we do, as staff, to help you in your translation efforts?

Thanks for your comments, and if you're celebrating today or tomorrow, may you have a happy holiday!
23rd-Sep-2008 05:04 pm - New here - Intro
soccer
Hi all!  I am new to this community and wanted to introduce myself.  I am an employee of LiveJournal sitting in San Francisco, and hope to get involved in translating both Portuguese and Spanish (to the best of my ability).  I am from Brasil and have family still down there that I eventually hope will join the effort.  My Spanish is not incredible, but I am interested in pushing forward with helping in any way I can, so let me know if there is anything I can do!  [info]janinedog  has given me privs to help out in the Spanish and Portuguese areas, but I am still learning so going v-e-r-y slowly - I promise not to do anything to mess anything up!

Anyway, just wanted to let you know who I was and what I was up to.  Cheers!

10th-Sep-2008 11:47 pm - repeated items
перегрелся, overwork
Can anybody explain me the great difference between widget.promotext.220* and widget.promotext.251*? Does anybody really care about duplicates? I'm not very happy to translate
same things over and over again (it happens with other items from time to time) or keep it all in memory to find the origin and use cut-n-paste.

My paid account expired today (and not only mine, I guess). Any chance you will upgrade us again anytime soon?

Thank you

http://wiki.livejournal.org/index.php/Non-English-language_request#Please_reply_if_you_need_a_translation and http://community.livejournal.com/lj_support/651881.html both have translations of "If you need this reply translated into [language], please reply to this request." There are some missing languages, however. If your language isn't present in either of the pages above (they should have the same languages), can you reply to this with a translation? (Please indicate which language this is for, if you're a translator for several.)
apples
"Support / FAQs" part under the "Help" section of the site footer doesn't seem to appear properly when you choose non-English language and if it is not translated to that language yet.
It only appears as " / " instead of original English "Support / FAQs."

Item Code:
horizon.footer.support
horizon.footer.faq

Would you please fix it? (Or, is it only me?)
Thank you!
14th-Jun-2008 10:44 am - needless Sev2 items
ski
Hi

There're lot of translation items appeared to be marked with severity 2 when nothing actually changed in text (at least, with Russian translation). Once the translation interface requires those items to be changed, I cannot just save them again, but they really don't need changes. The list is very loooooooooooooong )
10th-Jun-2008 10:25 am - Updating FAQ translations on demand
"Cartooney crab holding drink"
Even for translation teams most diligent in keeping their FAQs up to date, there can be a need for support people to request spot updates, when we need to use a FAQ in a foreign language request and the translation isn't current. When that happens, it can be useful for support volunteers to ask translators to update the translations for one or more specific FAQs. If you are active in a translation team and are willing to be contacted when that happens, please answer the following poll. )
"Cartooney crab holding drink"
The notes for that string say "Don't translate this string; it needs to remain in English." Does that apply to all of it, or can the link text ("Make WebMoney Payment" in English) be translated?
17th-Apr-2008 03:12 am - lack of activity in the Swedish team
osaka-san
It seems that I am the sole translator on the Swedish team. The current administrator, [info]bjorng, appears to be inactive which keeps new translators to be added to the crew.

I enjoy translating, but it's difficult to do on my own. I know that there are people that want to contribute and I would be more than willing to moderate LJ_Swedish and grant privs to them so that they too can help out. Can this be arranged somehow?

Sincerely,

Sebastian
