Most popular numbers in LJ usernames
Keeping in step with [info]jofish22's recent post about popular LJ username beginnings, I present you guys with a list of the most common numbers used in LJ usernames.

The list of usernames comes from [info]researcher2's friends graph mentioned in this post. It has approx. 2.7M usernames.

A bit about how I counted: a username like 01_01_du8de_999 would be two votes for '01', and a single vote for '8' and '999'. Somewhat simplistic, but these results are just for fun...

Behind this LJ cut is a list of numbers with at least 500 mentions. There are some fun ones in there.

I feel old now! 1984 and 1985 are on the short list (the next numbers around there to occur are 1987, 1986); I'm guessing in most cases those refer to the birth year of the user. I was born in '83.

Also, "42" is lower than I expected. I guess I hang around lots of geeks.

I remember trying to register [info]theansweris42 when I signed up, but alas, it was taken. :-P

I wonder whether the popularity of '88' is due to it being a neo-Nazi codeword or to '8' meaning good luck in Chinese.

And I'm surprised 242 didn't make it near 187 and 420; I'd have thought the number of technogoths on LJ would be comparable to the number of gangsta-rap fans and stoners.

My question is... wtf is 182? It's the seventh sixth-digit number behind 666, 101, 420, 123, and 007. Those first five are obvious to me: Satan, the Orwell and Matrix references, stoners, duh we can count, and James Bond. 182? And the next three-digit number is 143, which is just as mysterious to me.

The next few -- 777, 311, 911 -- I get, but what about 247?

Hmm.

182 is probably for 'Blink 182' (the crappy pop punk band?) 143 means 'I love you' -- check http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=143

In general for things like this, Urban Dictionary is your friend :-)

Thanks. I knew it was something along those lines, because it's incredibly popular among high school girls. :) But being a college graduate now, I hadn't seen it years...

Probably a reference to teen mook band Blink 182. Or possibly 1980s graffiti film Turk 182.

247 = 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

See, if it were separated into 24-7 or 24_7, I'd have understood that! But I live right next to a highway 247, which I've pronounced two-forty-seven for about 15 years, so my mind didn't process 247 as 24/7. :)

I was just an idiot for not thinking of Blink 182, especially since I have two of their albums... and I even like one of them!

How about separating them into separate lists by how many digits they have? A list of the 10 single-dit numbers, the 100 two-digit numbers, and so on...

Should be a fairly trivial task for a 5-line PERL script. Unfortunately I'm leaving computer-land for a week or so now, so I invite any other coders out there to take a stab at it (and a better representation in general).
