I'm on holiday in Holland, so there might be some delays re-creating the glossary (though gaal is perfectly welcome to take charge while I'm away...*hinthint*), and I might not respond to comments as quickly as I normally would. I'll be back in full swing in a couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, new applicants are reminded that they should join and watch both this community and lj_translate, and read this post from the higher-ups for most of the information needed to get an idea of what being an LJ translator entails.

I won't grant translation privileges until you do so. In fact, I won't be granting any translation privileges at all until we're done with our glossary project, which involves rebuilding our lost database of commonly used phrases throughout LJ, and LJ-specific terms, and then deciding together on the best way to translate them, so that we all have uniform guidelines to work with when we start translating, which will hopefully prevent translation inconsistencies. All volunteers are more than welcome to help with this project, once they've joined this community (if you request to join, I'll approve your membership).

It seems that as part of LJ's attempt to restart the translation effort, I've been made the community maintainer. So, for those who don't know me, hi. I'm Ronnie.

The first thing I want to make absolutely clear is that even if you can't dedicate as much of your time to this as you have in the past, I would still like to have you on board. As far as I'm concerned, the more experienced translators we manage to keep here, the better, since even if I have to recruit more people to get the job done, it would be incredibly helpful to have you guys around to help train them.

What I need to know at the moment is who's still willing to participate (on any level), and who wants out, so please comment and let me know.

So, is there anybody out there?

We're down to 77%, and I'm willing to work on this a little, but I must know that people actually use it, or I won't bother. avva said he would look into this, but I don't remember any news from his direction. Do any of you know of people actually using the Hebrew interface?

Hello, fellow translators.

Today I tried joining a community via the Hebrew interface, and the join link was broken, due to an extraneous '=' sign. I fixed it.

We must be very careful when copying links -- it was no big deal for me, but theoretically (we still have no idea who actually wants to use the Hebrew interface, do we?) some people may have gotten stuck at that "document not found" error message.

Come to think of it, it is probably a good idea to add a simple HTML syntax check, at least for <a> elements, to the translation system, so that it can compare tags between the original and the translated strings, to verify nothing was misspelt or broken. Hmm.

something is wrong with the ip thing.. it should say "from ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xx, via xxx.xxx.xxx.xx" and is says 3 times the ip.. I'll try to fix it in a couple of hours.. I've got guests :)

How are we translating "mood themes", or "themes", for that matter? Is there a term already in place, or do we need to come up with one?

translating a FAQ- help!

The FAQ I'm translating is about IP logging. I saw that we're calling it "rishum mispar IP" and I was wondering why not "ktovet IP", as it's normally refered to as an IP address, but that's not my main problem.
The problem is with translating internet related technical terms, which I've only heard used in their English version, never in Hebrew, such as "Domain name" and even worse- "domain name servers".
The rest of the FAQ is already done, but I don't want to save it with some lame or incorrect term, so I hope one of you could help me.

Okay, I've upgraded to the latest Semagic client (see ljwin32_sema if you don't know it yet. It rules!), and will now test the Unicode feature.

then "User has disabled comments in their journal" can't be "????? ?? ??? ?????"..

"User has disabled comments in their journal" should be "????? ?????? ?????? ????? ??".

as far as i'm concerned, "posting permissions" in a community journal are "harshaot ktiva". its not the perfect term, but if you say otherwise i will bomb you with used kleenex.

"backdate entry" - תאריך שונה/שנה תאריך?
i can't think of a non-complicated term that will explain that the date set for this entry is not the date the entry was posted on, but a date the user specified, and so as a result this entry will not be shown on some pages...

note for future reference: wherever style names are refered to, i'm currently keeping their english names.

btw - to prevent 2 people working on the same thing at the same time, i'm working from the bottom of the list to the top of it.

i suppose this means we'll have to refer to the FAQ when translating the actual pages, or at least review the FAQ once the rest of LJ is translated...

while "סמליל" is supposed to be the proper word for "icon", it seems to me that no one will understand what we're talking about...
