Site-specific text not working
I'm following the instructions at the official customize-your-site-text page to the letter. I find that when I get all the way through them, I get:

[blogs@webhost5 upgrading]$ $LJHOME/bin/upgrading/texttool.pl load
Undefined domain: faq

I can vow I'm following the instructions to the character. I commented out the last line of text-local.dat that mentions the FAQ, but even when I do that, the text on the front page does not change.

Can anyone help? Thanks.

The "load" won't change stuff that's already in your database.

Do a "texttool.pl wipedb" and then do another load.

The wipe worked, but loading fails

[blogs@webhost5 upgrading]$ ./texttool.pl wipedb
Undefined domain: faq
[blogs@webhost5 upgrading]$ ./texttool.pl dump
Undefined domain: faq
[blogs@webhost5 upgrading]$ ./texttool.pl load
Undefined domain: faq

Now, also, none of the strings on the web site are there.

If I comment out the FAQ entry in text-local.dat, it gives this out:

[blogs@webhost5 upgrading]$ nano -w text-local.dat
[blogs@webhost5 upgrading]$ ./texttool.pl load
Populating structure...
Inserting language: English
Inserting language: English (Local)
Inserting domain: general[]
Inserting language domains ...
done.
Populating text...

en_LOCAL
added: 20
done.
Removing dead phrases...
File: deadphrases.dat
Done.

en -- en_LOCAL
done.
[blogs@webhost5 upgrading]$

But most of the strings still don't work. (Surely there are more than twenty....)

Now there are hardly any strings. :-(.

Here's my en_LOCAL, hardly changed from the stock one.

Well, try to copy these lines from ljcom's text_local.dat:

# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-
domain:100:faq
domain:101:journal/news
