After much deliberation, and more than a few moments of "auuuugh how do I choose", we are proud to announce the two winners of our First Ever LiveJournal Writing Contest.

Well, as we're drawing to a close -- we have our Grand Prize winner, and you guys have chosen the Community Grand Prize winner, both of whom we'll announce shortly in news with all due public props -- we have one thing left to go: the showcase submissions. These are essays from people who were ineligible for the prize-winning contest for one reason or another; we've selected five to share with you.

This entire process has been awesome. We received over a hundred submissions, and it just served to reinforce what I've been saying for years: LiveJournal users are incredibly talented, smart, passionate, articulate people. It may sound cheesy, but I'm proud to be a part of this community, and I hope you guys are too.

So, we've read all the fantastic submissions, we've wept blood and beaten our chests trying to make selections from the pool of submissions everyone sent -- seriously, some great work there -- and we have chosen our Grand Prize winner.

But we're not going to tell you yet.

No, we're not just being cruel; we need to get your opinions first. We've also chosen ten semi-finalists, and from those ten, you guys are going to pick the Community Grand Prize winner.

We won't attach a LJ username to these submissions for now, but once we've announced our winners, we'll come back and give everyone public props. And remember, if you entered and you don't see your submission here -- well, we've still got our Grand Prize winner to announce.

Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry. We had a heck of a lot of fun reading the diverse voices from our community. And congratulations to everyone!
