To begin with a happy note: Maine has just legalized gay marriage! It's the fifth US state to do so.

On a less happy note, the mods of this community have received several emails from participants who won auctions and made their donation, but never recieved the item or service they bid on.

In a few cases, it's unclear why this happened, and the mods have tried to contact the person who offered the item. (You can still email us if you'd like us to do this.) But in others, the person offering the item or service offered in good faith, but for reasons beyond their control, was unable to deliver it.

We would like to try to remedy this situation.

1. If for any reason you are one of the people who did not receive the item or service you won, WITHOUT NAMING THE NAME OF THE PERSON WHO INITIALLY OFFERED IT, please comment to this post with a description of the item you made a donation for.

ETA: Please give enough details in your comment that readers will be able to know whether or not they can fulfill the request! Bad example: "I won fanfic." Good example: "I won a Dragonlance twincest story, but I'd be happy with anything, including gen, so long as it includes Raistlin."

2. If you can provide the item they're looking for, please comment to that comment to say so. This is so that multiple people don't fulfill the same request. After that, you can take it to email.

There is no need to make an additional donation. In these cases, the donation was already made.

Well, it seems that Pepsi gave money to help combat Prop 8. (via HRC) And now the "American Family Association" (I think they at one point in time said that the best way to prevent a little boy from becoming gay was to show him daddy's penis in the shower.) wants everyone to boycott Pepsi. Not only that... but they also apparently supported a pro-homosexual episode of Family Guy. Or something. If it wasn't the AFA, I'd say it was a parody site. http://www.boycottpepsico.com/

Oh, and the DC Council also voted unanimously to recognize gay marriages from other parts of the country. :D

Unanimous ruling: Iowa marriage no longer between one man, one woman

"The Iowa Supreme Court this morning upheld a Polk County judge’s 2007 ruling that marriage should not be limited to one man and one woman.

The ruling, viewed nationally and at home as a victory for the gay rights movement and a setback for social conservatives, means Iowa’s 5,800 gay couples can legally marry in Iowa beginning April 24.

There are no residency rules for marriage in Iowa, so the rule would apply to any couple who wanted to travel to Iowa."

I'm on the HRC mailing list, and something wonderful happened yesterday. Around noontime, HRC sent out an action call to email a TV station that had agreed to air this hour-long hate polemic.

I was offline for a few hours. When I saw that email -- around 5 pm -- and clicked on the link to take action, the campaign had already been closed because the TV station had said they didn't want to be in the middle of someone else's fight and decided not to give the haters a site.

This BS will probably be mass-distributed the same way a similar one (purporting to link Barack Obama to al-quaeda) was sent around at election time. These SOBs have the money to pull all kinds of expensive propaganda offensives.

The purpose this time is probably to incite the usual screech monkeys to make a big fuss in California over the court battle against Prop Hate.

By all means, let's spam their survey -- but the last time this gang did something similar and the results weren't what they wanted, they simply took it down.

The Lambda Legal fund is currently fighting Prop 8 in an effort to get it overturned by the California Supreme Court.  If you believe in marriage equality and the right of LGBT people to marry the person they love, you can help by submitting a story to the charity anthology; 'I do' now being put together to raise funds in support of the fund.

We're looking for stories between 1,000 words and 10,000 words long.  M/M, F/F and transgender stories are welcome.  There is no strict theme, but our readership are primarily interested in romance.  We also have certain things we do *not* want to see:

 

No stories which undermine the purpose of the anthology, please – ie, no stories which are about how gay people do not want to get married or do not deserve to get married.  We do not want anything that reinforces negative stereotypes of LGBT people.  We don't want snuff fiction, scat, golden showers, necrophilia or under-age sex. 

No fanfiction please.

 

As long as your story doesn't contain any of those things and comes within the word-count, please do send it to alex@alexbeecroft.com

 

As long as you possess the copyright for your story and it is not currently under contract to anyone else, we are happy to consider stories which have been published before.

However, I request that you not blame specific groups for the passage of Prop 8 here. I have more detail on why I think that's a bad thing here: Don't be the hatred we're fighting against. Of course you're free to say whatever you like in your own LJs. For the sake of clarity, I don't mean that you shouldn't say, for instance, "The Mormon Church's fundraising for Prop 8 was wrong." I mean that I'd really prefer no comments along the lines of "All Mormons are fascist pigs."

Offer: I will create an original ambigram of a word (or few) of your choice. Some examples of my older ambigrams can be found here. I will work with you to make sure it is an appealing design, as my newer ambigrams are a bit "cleaner" in shape. I will draw it by hand, scan it, and send it to you via email or LJ. You may use it as a tattoo design (some friends have), or just as a piece of art but other than that please ask if you have any questions (for example, I'd rather not see it as a logo or t-shirt design, and especially not without permission). I reserve the right to share it as an example of my art. I can also snail-mail you a hand-drawn copy, if you'd rather. =) The design of the ambigram will be unique to yours and not repeated by me (even if someone has the same name or something).

Here is an example of my newer style. It's less chunky and more swirling, unless it's a) not possible, or b) not what you want. But I thought I'd post it for contrast to everything posted in my dA account.

DETAILS:

Winning bidder must either have their own domain name and hosting space, bought and paid for, by themselves. I recommend using bluehost.com, OR I can host the site for 1-year, but the domain name must be bought and provided for by the winning bidder. I can then, after the year is up, assist in transferring the site to another location.

Wining bidder must have basic idea for look and feel of the site, but I will work with them to get them something they will like.

Donations can be made to Equality For All/No On Prop 8, Marriage Equality USA, or Equality California, buyer's choice.

This is a great cause, and I'm sortof panicking, because although it's not my civil liberties and basic human rights being threatened, this is a time for everyone to stand together and fight for our loved ones and their loved ones, and I don't know that what I have to offer is enough.
