DA is moderating the submissions, I posted a very tame support desktop that just said VIVA LE PICNIC and I got this message:

"An administrator has relocated one of your deviations from Community Projects > Contests > 2008 > SG Wallpaper Contest to Scraps.

If DA really is making a corporate decision to align with SG, people should write in to DA and let them know their concerns and how SG fucks over their artists, be it models or photographers, and how that is not the kind of organization they want to align with.

Probably won't do any good, but it's worth a try.

So Deviant art has teamed up with SG, in some seemingly pack of the devil http://news.deviantart.com/article/47763/, not only do they have the contest right now SG’s are now the official models for the deviant art wear. Currently they are holding a contest for dA members to create SG wallpapers of which the SG staff will pick their favorites. Now I entered the contest and went by what the rules said which was

I find it rather funny that my deviation was moved; in hope perhaps da wouldn’t get tons of shit from SG. The truly sad part of this is deviant art is an artist community, where artists are suppose to stick together and support one another. Phil is a senior member of da, he’s brought countless traffic to the site, membership profits and print sales. That has lined the owners of da’s pockets for what? To be betrayed by a site you have proudly shown your work on for 5 years now.

Any deviation that had anything to do with supporting Phil and Apena was removed from our galleries and sent to “Scraps” like it doesn’t have an artist merit, because it is going anti instead of pro Suicide Girls. The sad thing is there isn’t allot that deviant art knows about truth these days or supporting the community that pays their rent, bills and their artistic endeavors.

I think it's pretty strategic of SG... get theirs hand in every cookie pot that they can, then maybe use whatever alliances to either help keep them high, in case they lose any battles or just push everyone from the inside, that they don't like, out.

A kind of power gaining..

I wouldn't be shocked to see them partner up with other agencies and/or art/model sites.

I didn't cancel mine (not that I've been active there in years). Instead I deleted all of my art work and posted a journal entry titled "Suicide Girls".

"I refuse to display my work, or support in ANY way a site that chooses to support and/or associate with Suicide Girls."

Any sort of official statement? lolly responded to a comment I made saying it's a "conspiracy" theory, but it's pretty obvious where their affiliations are. I just want some hard(er)core proof before I delete my gallery and cancel my subscription.

There's a problem with that, though. It would be considered baiting. It's a Suicide Girls contest, put on by a fan of Suicide Girls. There may be a loop hole, but it's expected that the entry is supposed to be pro-Suicide Girls. The fact that they can't handle free speech or artistic license only proves that they are douche bags.
I DO think that there is a "conspiracy", to use lolly's term, but I think there needs to be some more evidence before conclusions can be drawn.

Nothing at all implies that it has to be pro-SG. In fact, if they changed out the reference to "SuicideGirls" and replaced it with "Presidential Candidates" (with appropriate picture gallery for them), does that imply that all submissions have to be positive in nature to the candidates? Heh! THAT would never happen either!

I raise this specifically because the moderator stated several times in the comments that this contest had nothing to do with any "business affiliation" between DA and SG.

I thought everyone was already aware that DA had sold its soul to the devil. They no longer allow overly-sexual entries (even if they're just literature) & they allow "artists" who are just 14 year old little girls tracing and recoloring anime characters that real professionals drew.

I was going to post up my submission, but figured it would get removed. I posted it to my own DA gallery and commented into the contest comments with a link to it. I also sited the fact that it falls completely within the guidelines as posted for the contest, quoting the guidelines that they set forth.

I'm not really surprised. When I first set up my DA free account, the first time I'd even heard of $G was through a banner at the top of the DA page. That was back in '04. I'm sure they pimp each other out back and forth. Luckily, I've never paid for an account at either site. They're both pretty sketchy when it comes to artistic ownership and taking more than their fair share of the profits off your work. Not something I wanna pay for! :P

What is being done with them is being done simply for the hell of it because they are fun people to hang out with and despite what you think about them not being about "art" they are, by and large very artistic people and have a community filled with artistic people. Unless for some reason you don't feel tattoo, photography etc are art. That is your call.

But in the process of shooting the shit with them over lunch or out at different things the idea ot just bounce different simple, no contracts, no money involved things for both communities to participate in came up a bunch of times, initiated equally on both sides, and we finally just put a couple out.

There is nothing sinister about it, nothing business about it. It is about doing fun things for the people who are on the sites hassle free. And also, keep in mind ex-employees who get fired, or get involved in disputes are very far from being unbiased sources of information.

I find it very insulting how $lolly dismisses all the damage and pain SG has caused LP and Apnea with a flippant wave of the hand.

Of course Missy and Sean are going to be on good behavior when meeting with a potential business or promotional partner. He'll I bet they even paid for the lunch.

Nothing to do with the models of SG or their contracts (although I find them to be horribly put together). I'm basing it on actually reading the terms of the contract. I'm surprised to see DA showing support of SG by bringing them this kind of attention, during a time when one of DA's senior members is going through such crap with them.
