MODS: If this isn't cool, feel free to delete.  I consider this to be one of the biggest Twilight gathering places online though, so I thought I could get some great insight.

Hi everyone,

This is based on a past posting about a school project I have to do about decisions reflecting negatively upon the public.  I have decided to write my final paper in a class based on Stephanie Meyer's decision to not publish Midnight Sun.  I would like to gather up as much fan reaction as possible because I feel this may be an easier venue than searching through endless blogs that may yield useless results.

The questions I need answered are here at my LJ.  I am keeping them here to keep everything in order, so please only comment at the LJ, okay?  Thanks so much!

I ask that this not turn into some kind of crazy wank session, okay?  This is for a serious paper, not just for posting and ranting.  There are plenty of places for that.  Don't feel the need to use any personal info, this is for data collecting and that sort of thing.  If you have a site or something that you may want me to mention, please, feel free.

With her beloved book finally hitting the big screen, Twilight author Stephenie Meyer sat down with EW for an in-depth interview about the Rob Pattinson casting controversy, Breaking Dawn's mixed reception, the deal with Edward and Bella's big kiss, and what she's working on next.

EW: First and foremost, what was it like seeing your story on the big screen?
STEPHENIE MEYER:
I was terrified for days in advance before I saw Twilight for the first time. I was so worried that it was going to be horrible and break my heart. I'd seen things that were really good, but for all the time I'd spent on the set, I'd probably seen 10 minutes of the movie altogether. So I asked if it was okay if some of my friends watch with me because I have these great friends who are really positive and they love everything! I was really worried about it but we got in there and they put it on and I had my paper and my pen because it was a rough cut and I wanted to give feedback on things I felt needed to be changed. And I didn't write a single thing down because I was so involved. The characters were speaking the way they should and the heart was there. I could have watched it all night in a loop if I could have.

Why did you demand that Edward and Bella's big kissing scene be toned down?
The problem is if you're going to continue with the other movies, there's a very gradual build to their physical relationship. And what Edward is capable of when he first meets Bella changes very much by the time he's become more committed to the relationship. They reshot the first kiss scene and actually added a special effect and some really cool things that added so much. And it's the only kiss scene.

EW: Is Midnight Sun still dead to you, or can you see finishing and publishing it in the future?
STEPHENIE MEYER:
It's really complicated, because everyone now is in the driver's seat, where they can make judgment calls. "Well, I think this should happen, I think she should do this." I do not feel alone with the manuscript. And I cannot write when I don't feel alone. So my goal is to go for, like, I don't know, two years without ever hearing the words Midnight Sun. And once I'm pretty sure that everyone's forgotten about it, I think I'll be able to get to the place where I'm alone with it again. Then I'll be able to sneak in and work on it again.

The Twilight Git Guy has released another statement about Midnight Sun and how it isnt a punishment for her fans and how she has never said she wont finish it.

Here

My reply to this overblown buffoons rhetoric:-

To punish is to inflict a penalty on someone.

Indefinitely means with no ending in sight.

As you are so fond of telling us, you are a writer, words are your thing. Please tell me, in what way this is not a punishment for her fans?

If this were not the case a very simple one line statement could reasure all her fans. She simply needs to reasure us that while it might be a while, one day she will complete Midnight Sun.

She has never offered this reasurance to her fans, therefor i must conclude that is IS a punishment and Midnight Sun WILL NOT be finished.

"Every teenager in the country is reading STEPHENIE MEYER'S "Twilight" series of books (and will soon be watching the movies!). I am thrilled to announce that Stephenie is giving me a rare TV interview on Wednesday! Her latest book in the series, "Breaking Dawn," is about a teenage girl who is torn between her love for a caring vampire and a sweet-natured werewolf. (Why are the good ones always taken?!) Stephenie was also writing a new book from Edward the Vampire's point of view, but certain chapters got leaked online, and now she might not even release it! (I'm gonna try my best to talk her into it, or at least have her give me the scoop on what happens!) "

I found an audioclip from a brief interview with Robert.  He's asked about the Midnight Sun leak and what his thoughts are on it.  BEWARE:  There may be some questionable ad's at the bottom of the screen...there were a couple times I listened to it.  Sorry about that, but there's nothing I can do about it.  Here's the link:  http://www.zshare.net/audio/1838192664043a91  I hope you enjoy it!

Kaleb, aka the Twilight Guy, speaks out in defense of Stephenie. And he does an amazing job - I, for one, totally agree with him.

What Is It About Edward?

One of my favorite blogs takes on Edward's appeal and how Twilight may be "old-skool romance" [which I love so I take it as complimentary].

I've put together all of the playlists from Stephenie's website.
You can either download the songs separate or download the zip files.
You'll find it all over here.

"A partial draft containing chapters of Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer has been leaked on the Internet without the knowledge or permission of either Stephenie Meyer or Little, Brown. Although these early chapters were never intended to be published in their current form, Stephenie Meyer has decided to authorize the posting of these rough, initial chapters on her website (www.stepheniemeyer.com) in fairness to her true, loyal fans. While no decisions have been made at this time regarding the publication of Midnight Sun, Stephenie Meyer is currently at work on other writing projects.  Little, Brown looks forward to our continued publishing relationship with Stephenie Meyer and, like her many fans, we are eager to experience her next literary creation."

At least they suggest no decision has been made.

I've been in and out of this fandom for a fairly long time - since before New Moon came out. And the thing I remember about Midnight Sun is that the claim that Stephenie Meyer finished twelve chapters has been around since that time.

That's... well, according to my unreliable memory three two years of twelve chapters being finished.

I wonder if she's written more - why didn't she give out more to movie people when they started shooting early this year? I mean in those two years - those other books being written nonewithstanding - shouldn't she at least finished Chapter Thirteen to give it to them?

So help me out here - how long do you remember those twelve chapters being finished? Because if it's been really that long, maybe it's not hurt feelings that made her quit, maybe it's knowing that Midnight Sun is going nowhere fast.

I read the Midnight Sun draft, yes I did. My thoughts (with spoilers) on MS, and how it has affected my reading of Breaking Dawn are under the cut. If you've read MS, I'd love to know what you got from it, too (apart from, of course, the "moar"). And because one almost cannot think of one without the other, I also wrote my view of the Meyer response to the MS leak. You can skip that part, if you wish.

hmmm...I wonder if she knows the other 11 chapters are out there. Me thinks, yes. PR machines work wonders.

Hopefully this is allowed.

I hunted down the Midnight Sun font that Stephenie uses on her preview of the first chapter.

You can get it for FREE here: Edwardian Scr Alt ITC TT.
(After clicking the link, it should pop up for you to save it, or open it.)

Enjoy!

Hi All

Brand new to this community but this question has been burning in my brain ever since I read the Edward P.O.V version of First Sight in the Special Edition Twilight. I know SM is currently very busy with it and all BUT has anyone asked or has she mentioned anywhere if Midnight Sun will be an Edward POV of just Twilight? Or will it go into New Moon events? In other words will the last chapter of Midnight Sun coincide with the last chapter of Twilight?

I am very curious to know if we will get more than one Edward POV novel. Just reading First Sight from Edward's perspective was enough to increase my already chronic addiction to this series.

Thanks in advance for any info!
