HP vs. Twilight....again.
In another attempt by MTV to find something to write about, they have written a blog questioning if Harry Potter's release date change had anything to do with Twilight. It also talks a little about what one expert predicts Twilight's box office numbers will be.

Read about it HERE.

Why can't we all just get along?

as much as i hate to add fuel to the fire, it does seem suspicious that they pulled it.

there wasn't any kind of promotion for it this summer like you usually do for movies released in the fall.

fishy, fishy.

post production could just be taking longer than expected. it's not like you shoot the movie and it's done. there's a LOT of editing they have to do as well.

WB said that it would have been ready by November, but they want to cash in bigger with a summer release. It's all about making more $$$, nothing else.

Gosh! Don't they have anything else to occupy themselves with? Isn't there anything remotely interesting happening in show-business right now? Is it because Britney spears started to wear pants again?

They probably realized the movie was shitty and are trying to fix that 'romcon' mess.

I think it'll be good for twilight. If there arent a lot of family friendly films this winter, it can only increase Twilight's takings and whats good for the film makers is good for the fans.

Maybe NM will be longer and/or have a bigger budget.

I do think (know) that Twilight will be huge. But I don't think it would have affected HP.

Something does seem off though, with the delay. Maybe the film wasn't as ready as they thought it would be.

*waits for someone to quote mean girls about cake and rainbows or some shit*

I really honestly don't believe it's because of Twilight. I know people are angry, but I think they'll cool down and the suspense for the new HP movie will be even stronger. I don't watch the HP movies religiously so it doesn't really concern me but I think it'll be fine. Sux4EW

This is kind of getting old with the whole Twilight/Harry Potter battle of the movies/books. Seriously, I highly doubt that they pulled the movie just because Twilight is coming out two weeks afterwards.

I'm just a little iffy about HPB itself because of the lack of promotion and PR about the movie. But hey, this'll just give each movie more time to make $$$. Because, honestly, we know how hyped everyone is for the Twilight movie so of course it'll make money, but there's an even bigger fan-base out there for HP, so...either way, I'm sure it'll turn out fine.

I think it's a combination of things, but as much as I'd like to blame it on Twilight, I don't think that's the reason. Disney/Walden Media postponed Prince Caspian's release almost 6 months - from Dec 07 to May 08. So it's not unheard of for a movie of this size to be delayed like this.

Nobody at MTV actually believes it has anything to do with Twilight. They just know when they write anything Twilight, people come flocking and bring tons of traffic to the site. So I'm not even taking this seriously at all. As if we needed another reason to believe MTV is a total sell-out after the article about comments on another article about a Twilight fansite??

HBP did not get moved 'cause of Twilight. It was something about getting more $$... but the whole thing is fishy to be sure. I mean, it's been the least promoted film of the series so far, and now there's this crap. Hmmmmm.. something's going on.

Did MTV not read the statement from WB saying that it was repercussions of the writers' strike and they want a big blockbuster hit?

"Studio boss Alan Horn cited "repercussions of the writers’ strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films -- changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of. We agreed the best strategy was to move Half-Blood Prince to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer.” Apparently, the move was subordinate Jeff Robinov's idea. But he confirmed that the release date change does not alter the production schedule for the two-part Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."

You know MTV, not everything that HP does relates to Twilight. Stop it with these articles damnit, you are acting like Perez Hilton.

Wow...seriously? I think that if a lot of fans are through with it why the hell do they keep pressing the issue? So fricken dumb. Honestly, Twilight and HP are two COMPLETELY different stories and therefore shouldn't be getting compared. Vimpires and magicians...two COMPLETELY different concepts. Geez. They are making both fan bases seem very ignorant and childish, which I do have to admit that we are at times, but still...damn. Give us a little bit more credit here.

I do believe WB's reasons have to do with the writers' strike, but...

I read something yesterday where Steve Kloves, the screenwriter for the HP films, said the filmmakers are all worried that there won't be as much enthusiasm for the remaining three Potter films since it's been over a year since the final book was released. And perhaps Warner Bros. feared that all the attention Twilight has been getting this year, due to the MTV coverage and the fourth book being recently released, posed a potential problem to their Potter franchise.

Whatever, WB. You know Twilight can't beat HP. HP rules over everything.

"Why can't we all just get along?" IA.

I just feel that it would be pretty logical of Summit to not pull a November release date back when HP was still dominating in that month. Who are we to compete with them, and anyway, I don't think the world would like to see a box office war between a big shot and a small fry.

And now that HP's out till next summer, where HP fans can be enjoying their summer holidays, isn't it greater to have Twilight earlier so we'd stop going, "IS IT DECEMBER YET?!" Gee.

And it's annoying to see EW vying with the I'm-running-out-of-ideas-esque MTV now for Twilight news and audience and hits and attention.
