MTV writes an article about Twilight Lexicon hacking
I'm not sure if this is even relevant, but MTV News just posted an article about the hacking of the Twilight Lexicon that can be found HERE.  Mods delete this if you don't want it here, but it's pretty interesting if you ask me.

LOL at MTV bothering to use the phrase "divisive contrarianism" in an article about Twilight, of all things. How very journalistic of them.

Also wtf at the quote: "For those who were disappointed, go be passionate about something else."

Personally I don't have any strong feelings one way or the other about BD because I had a pretty conservative bar for where my hopes were set. And I agree that the Lexicon is an independent website and therefore they can pretty much ban whatever they want. But to only encourage passionate response on one end of any spectrum is pretty immature and probably just a result of sore feelings due to their hacking. I imagine message boards at the Lex will be pretty dull if everyone's just sitting around going, "What a fantastic book, don't you agree?" "Why yes, yes it was!"

If you were a fan of the series and felt like you got jipped by the ending, I'd say you have a right to feel pretty passionately about it one way or another.

i think that who ever hacked the site was overreacting, and is very immature u didnt like the book dont read it not everyone loves everything and not everyone hates everything.. we all have our opinions. but this was going too far. hacking a website and like smeyer said she cant please everyone no auther ever can it happened with hp it happened with twilight and i have a feeling its going to happen to the inharitance trilogy 2. it usually foes everyone has the right to express their opinions, but hacking a website that supports smeyer is very low, rude, and immature

I think it's kinda sad that someone did that because they didn't like the book or didn't like the site. I know not everyone was happy with BD, and that's understandable, because you aren't always going to like everything, but to do that just because you didn't.

Love that the Lexicon mod labels any criticism of SMeyer as "Hate spam".

Oh well. SMeyer herself publicly bashes anyone who criticizes her in any way so I expect no less from her ~official fan site~.

idk this whole thing reminds me of this quote "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it". -Voltaire, haha they should embrace it and let the fandom speak, whether they agree or not..

Well, it's sad to see fans resort to bandalism. But I agree, if you want to hate on the book there are plenty of other places where you can do it to your hearts contempt.

I think it was a stupid thing to do.

But, you know what? The more these admins talk, the more irritated I get. They don't want discussion: they want mindless worship.

I requested for my account to be closed not long before this went down. I think it was closed...I'm not sure. That manifesto was ridiculous. I encouraged others to leave in my last post. I must be one of the "haters." *rollseyes* I did tell them to grow a pair and allow differing opinions on their site, rather than alienate their membership.

I wonder what the debate topics are going to be like in the future?

"Oh, I know, I totally agree."

"What she said."

"Yes, yes, it's the best. Nothing wrong with it, whatsoever."

They shouldn't have a DISCUSSION forum at all if they're going to ban OPINIONS.

*Rolls eyes*
I'm not condoning the behavior of the hacker(s), but, seriously, Lexicon? Like seriously?
If they're gonna be that lame and ban all the opinions of anyone who didn't agree with them, then they were kind of asking for it.
The whole thing's just stupid. In the real world, people have their own mind.

The HP fandom is worse, try saying absolutely anything negative about Jo Rowling or her books, you'll be met with a "lulz bitter harmonian, learn to read", even if you're not into H/Hr, it is always assumed that if you don't like something about the books it's because you are butthurt because of a ship and your opinion is dismissed.

Rowling is godlike in that fandom, untouchable, even naming her in relation to other writers is considered an insult.

I don't think there will ever be a worst fandom.

i like how it says bd haters hacked the site. but the reason it was hacked is cause of the manifesto not allowing any negative bd comments at all. and all the stupid rules they had that tried to limit what people wanted to say.

WTF. is with all the haters??? I just don't understand them. Obviously there just doing it to get an reaction out of the fandom. And if somebody did say shit about twilight to me then i would def. back SM up and react like "they" would want me to. But to go that far and hack a twilight site...they obviously have no life. I think it's sick that people would go soooo out of their way just to hack a twilight site. It's pathetic if you ask me. I do disagree about Lexicon only wanting positive comments, beacause people should be able to express their oppinons. There has to be a border line of possive and negative comments; which i think they don't really have the graps on.

They didn't hack it because they're a BD hater. They hacked it because the Lexicon is going all Thought Police on the fandom. There isn't even any proof that it was someone who disliked BD, the mods are just trying to justify it without taking any blame, just like their idol.

hacking is wrong, very very wrong, and I don't agree with deleting/destroying peoples hard work..but telling someone what they post HAS to be positive all the time is also wrong. I'm one of the most positive people I know when it comes to Twilight, but even I want to just whine sometimes.

These fandom divisions with people sharing their time only with people who agree with them in absolutely every aspect (be it people who loved BD or hated it) will only reinforce the sentiment that there is something wrong with people with a different opinion than yours. And if this becomes a fandom war eventually one side will get tired and leave fandom.

And most of the times the side that leaves is the one perceived as the negative side since it is seeing as more acceptable to attack people who don't like something.
