10 "furry" questions with Kijani Lion - an exclusive interview
Hey my fellow lion furs, It's my one-year anniversary!

Exactly one year ago, on April 19, 2008, I made the decision to join the furry fandom. It wasn't really a "spur of the moment decision" but rather a process that I researched thoroughly before committing myself to this wonderful community.

To celebrate this milestone, I've put together a video during which I am being interviewed about my experiences in the fandom during the past year. Throughout the interview I interlace pictures and video from the various furry events I attended to explain my point. My goal with this video is to show our wonderful fandom in a more positive light and to relay my experiences to others, particularly new or "closet" furs that are on the fence about joining the fandom like I once was.

What you will see here is just me - no fursuit, just me talking openly and candidly about my time so far in the fandom and answering some very personal and other more general questions about furry. It has been quite a fun and wild first year and I can only hope that the years to follow will be just as exciting and full of great people and great memories.

And being lion furs I know many of you will probably relate strongly to my experiences, particularly for question 1.

    The Questions:

    1. How did you get introduced to the fandom?
    2. What are your impressions of the fandom after your first year?
    3. Describe your "fursona" or character.
    4. How did you come up with your character's name?
    5. How made your fursuit?
    6. Why do you fursuit?
    7. If you could change one thing about the fandom, what would it be?
    8. What do you hope to accomplish in your second year in the fandom and beyond?
    9. What is your favorite memory of your first year as a furry?
    10. What does "furry" mean to you?

Enjoy the two-part video and I hope you learn a bit about me in the process.

    Hi everyone
Hi everyone. I was a furry for a while back but then I stopped for a while, and now I've returned. Anyway, I don't actually have a fursona at the moment, but my species of choice is definitely lion. The Lion King is really what got me in the furry community, and Scar is just the best character ever. I'm working on a furry conlang at the moment so if anyone has any input, feel free.

Public fursuit outing in downtown Bothell
Ever since my roommate Ithabise and I moved to Bothell, Washington (15 minutes around Lake Washington from Seattle) last summer we've wanted to do this (particularly the first one - visiting the Lyons' den)
and we finally got a chance to last Saturday.

Although the weather was bad (steady rain the whole time) our reception was great and people's reactions were generally priceless, many of which we caught on video.  And Bothell has a lot of props to play with on the street and a very unique collection of strip malls with stores and restaurants.  Very at-home, community feel.

To see the muvees in uber-high HD quality click on the Youtube links and be sure to hit the "HQ" button on the video applet.  Enjoy!

    Hello All :)
Hey everyone, new member here. I found this group while searching for lion related things on livejournal. It's really cool that there is a group for lion anthros here. I always loved lions so much, besides wolves and dogs. I mainly represented myself as a wolf for years but knew something was missing. My very first "fursona" was a lioness when i was younger, so i missed that alot. Lions are just beautiful and majestic creatures. They are powerful and love and protect their families. Which is something i admire alot. And they live in one of the most dangerous and mysterious places in the world, Africa :)

Anyways, I'm glad to be apart of the group. If your curious about my art its here http://www.furaffinity.net/user/banka/

    Special Petition- Signatures Required

    Dear Detroit Lions,

In light of your current peformance, if you can even call it that, this was felt to be made.

At a world record setting 16 losses, you have successfully managed to lose every game you have attended.

An event that has never ONCE been recorded in the history of the National Football League!
To be literally, the most monumental achievement you guys were able to make within the the season was failing so badly, that it set the standard of how bad a football team could be.

And, because of, this special petition has been constructed with the following message and hopes of compliance.

Stop sucking or change your name.

You're only insulting the rest of us by calling yourselves "The Lions."
(You only insult yourselves just by playing...there's a difference. Really.)

Perhaps this is a bit harsh. I'm sure there's reasons to this. There have to be! Lets see!

I mean, Rod Marinelli was fired and...
...Well...that was recently and.. probably a career boosting move for him..

So you guys had Matt Millen as a bad director....
...Well....truthfully, you guys kinda...sucked without him too..

OK, so Jon Kitna sat out all season and..
...Well...he kinda recovered and didn't want to play on the team...

The ball wasn't given to Calvin Johnson enough!
...Well...it's...probably hard to when the others players aren't all that talented...
[He happens to suck less than the rest.]

Maybe all the other teams were really good this year!
...Well...you guys also lost to the Miami Dolphins too...

....you know what? Optimism is overrated anyway.

So please change your name. Please.
Hey! "The Detroit Cubs" doesn't sound as bad as you might think~!
Even "The Detroit Ocelots" has a ring to it!

Are you tired of hearing the jokes revolving around your team?
I.e- "Losing each game an entire season! So easy, even a lion can do it!
(I hope you know this made me die. On the inside. TWICE.)

Some of us are long standing fans, and trying our absolute hardest to try and hope for the best, but it's not easy cheering for the worst recorded team in NFL history.
(Seriously. You can even Google it now.)

    And so we're begging you.
    We 're pleading.
    We IMPLORE you!

Please change the name. Or stop sucking. Please.
As you're representing us in football, we're only asking that you don't make us look any worse than you already have.

Sincerely, with what respect we're trying to give if there's any left,
    The Lion Furs Livejournal Community

Santa & Lion makes network TV

The lion & Santa vid posted here last week made a compilation on NBC Monday night. The Year's 50 Funniest Holiday Videos.

They cleared it with the owner and got a better-than-YouTube-quality source from her. It made #44 (somewhat less than Honorable Mention?)

I wonder what viewers thought of it...

    An Old Saying Disproved

I have been holding off posting this but since nobody else has...

(Gross topic warning - run now)

There's an old saying that you can't polish a turd or it is a waste of time trying to do so. Turns out that it is not true - if it's a lion dropping.

Discovery Channel's Mythbusters tackled the saying. To prove or disprove it they gathered "souvenirs" from several species at a zoo.

Back at their HQ they evaluated the consistency, texture, and composition of each and fairly quickly eliminated manure from various herbivores as too rough and crumbly, except giraffe dung showed promise. The top one was lion, though. It was consistent and fully digested with no odd elements aside from a few hairs.

I will skip the details but they were able to polish the giraffe and lion samples to a decent sheen and proceeded to use an Asian technique to create a large shiny ball out of dried, mashed, and reconstituted giraffe and "lion leavings."

The winner? The lion ended up with the best shine. Amazingly close to a chrome ball reference.

See for yourself (gross handling by Adam warning) (Hell, it's all gross.):

Yes, Virginia, lions have made another contribution to the art world.

I don't see it turning up in a gallery though.

    (You may now heave.)

    Oh noes... drunk lion?
Here's a couple vids of me in suit - first one is from my friend's 23rd birthday party where I suited up as a surprise. There was LOTS of alcohol at this party and I made the mistake of having a few (thankfully only a few) before getting in suit. It was a blast though, and Kijani was loved by everyone in attendance.

    Youtube link

Second one was before Rainfurrest '08 at SeaTac, WA, went to ACME Bowl in Tukwila and played In the Groove in suit with [info]taren_ of the Furducers who made my suit and [info]rockythefox .

    Hi.
Hi.  I'm Carissa, but you can call me Resha.  I, apparently, have several problems: I'm a lion furry, bisexual, polyamorous, and a dominant female into BDSM.  I don't fursuit, but that's because I've spent years in denial and come to terms with my human skin.  Besides, who wants to wear manmade fur when you can have the real thing?  I'm currently alone and spend a lot of time not wearing clothes, lounging around in a pile of wolf, fox, and rabbit furs I pick up at rendezvous every now and then.  I have a dark sense of humor and can occasionally come off as rude, uncaring, and/or anti-social, but I enjoy snuggling and being with others, in both a sexual and a platonic way.
