| It's interesting seeing who pops into my flickr pages |
[Jul. 20th, 2008|02:15 am] |
I thought I had flickr set up to let me know when someone adds a comment, or marks one of my pictures as a favorite.
For the most part, I recognize them, but there are some that I have no idea who they are, or how they found me. The links that list the faves and comments are:
http://flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/stats/allphotos/faves/ http://flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/stats/allphotos/comments/
It's also interesting in that some of the ones that people mark off are ones that I don't consider particularly good shots. I put the boxing crab shot up just because he is so shy, so that JB can point to it and show people he really does have one. A few of my flower shots got marked as faves and, to me, they seem competent, but nothing special. I'm not complaining that people like my stuff, but it'll be nice when I have the time to bring my skills up to the point that I'm proud of it.
I've had limited success with my IR FZ20: http://flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/sets/72157606267583622/
I need to get some IREDs to use as a focusing aid. Or maybe make an IR lamp out of my glass IR filter and an incancescent light. |

But when I tried to vent, I was just chastised for what I vented about in such a way that I couldn't explain why I was so pissed off without exacerbating what I was being bitched out for. So I guess I'm not allowed to bitch about certain topics. |

cover photograph from occupied Iraq, a laser-bisected mosque, but was actually a radome, I think. US soldiers were trotting around it.
The group name was some completely unmemorable intentionally ill-spelled take on the word "architecture". I'm talking Ron Artest 'tru warier' bad.
The record title was something equally unpenetrable.
The song titles? I think you know where I'm going with this...
Still, the music was pretty decent, on the lazily dissonant end of guitar drone. Closer to die yoof than the Valentines. No real compositions or progressions at all, just fades and abrupt cuts and splices. Samples about serotonin levels and uptake inhibitors and treaty violations and payload delivery vehicles. Certainly nothing that would shock or displease fans of either the VHF or Kranky labels.
Unfortunately, I burned it to HD during a phase where I'd neglected to set it to save the album's data or whatever, and also sold the cd along with the 20 or so others in the shoebox they came in.
Because the name is such a jacked up version of 'architecture, and more importantly, a not very clever one, it's hard to make guesses for what to Google for. I've never been successful in retracking this band down. It's as bad as my long-time problem with the band Whipped Creme from Sweden.
I'm running this file converter that has completletyeaten my procesor power, so its funny to see how much the computer can keep up with me and how much i cn keep up without werrors. This program marks the end of my time with minidisks. I no longer have any of the hardware, and now I'm converting the OMG/ATRAC files to mp3.
Argh, still about 70 songs to. Cinvubed wutg
wow!
"Combined with" is what I was trying to type, referring to BTawrrint being the other thing hogging my CPU. And LastFM. Well, Firefox actually is the worst culprit...WmPlayer aint helping either...

Today was a generally excellent day. While I managed to put a shocking 80 km on my car, it was all to good causes. Got some good pictures taken while up in the northwest, then it was off into the south to pick up Teh English Moofin (tm) at Chinook.
While down there, I engaged in a bit of righteous indignation. As I'd previously posted, I was going to pick up a kitchen torch today from Williams-Sonoma. The $40 price was pretty good. And what should I discover at the store? It's $67. Now I'm not at all above spending some coin on things I want and will use, but that's just too big a discrepancy in price. So I walked up to the counter and asked them if they could look up the price on it.
$67.
"But," says I,"it's only $40 on your website."
"Ah," says she,"that's the American price."
...
Uh guys? The dollars been virtually par for over a year. Even Chapters has brought their prices down as a result.
And I said as much to her, and told her it would be cheaper for me to buy through the site and have it shipped than purchase it locally from their store.
Hopefully she'll deign to pass that on to the store manager/owner.
So after picking up Teh English Moofin (tm) we headed north again, this time to the Sears outlet. And what should I find in the attached outlet mall, but a kitchen torch for $20. SOLD.
I are now the proud owner, and it works great.
After that was a quick run back home to drop the girls off after they'd pillaged to their hearts content, and then into Kensington for a quick espresso with Joel and gifted-spirit. From there it was off to an impromptu dinner with those two notables and nearly indefatigable madeileen. Some corn on the cob, potato salad and tasty burgers were the order of the evening, along with a whole lot of just relaxing and chatting on their deck. I love hanging with these guys. It's always fun, and that deck is just made for relaxing. Good times.
And now of course, it's o'late thirty at night, and it's time to spam all of you with the shenanigans and goings on, along with the photographic efforts.
Hope everyone else had a great day as well! |

Had some spare moments strung together while I was out in the deep deep deep northwest of Calgary, and took some pictures I'm really happy with.
And in a distinct departure from previous photostreams, I actually went through these and tossed the ones I wasn't happy with. I suspect I could weed these down a *bit* more, but not a lot. I think getting it down to 48 was pretty good though!
These are two I'm particularly happy with, but there are some other really good shots I think are worth checking out :)

The last two nights' sleep have not been nearly as successful. The night before last I woke up intermittently, but generally fell back asleep without too much trouble (which, by the way, is terribly unusual for me). It stopped happening sometime after 0600 (after sun-up). Still, it wasn't as restful as the night previous.
Last night was worse. I went to bed at 0020, slept until 0430, and lay awake until at least 0645, after which point I woke up periodically the rest of the morning.
It's still very early in the test, but it seems the melatonin is failing. I am still (apparently) having trouble sleeping while it is dark. |
