More on Manga
Last night I spent at least two whole whole discussing with my sis about the manga I am currently doing concept pictures for. After These two rabid hours of frantic think, OMG, awesome, does that work, etc. I came home at 2AM and started drawing to get at least *one* of my ideas down onto paper. I then felt sick, lay down and couldnt sleep. then i had another flash of inspiration and started drawing at 6 AM. Then I fell asleep. When i woke up, I looked at it and tried doing MORE drawing in efforts to at least undo and use productively the madness of the previous night! The results, (Critique me people!):

Hello world!
Good afternoon my female geek friends (I'm praying that no-one here is going to be offended by the word 'geek' here, or i think that i might be in the wrong place). I'm maxiie, and I found this lj community through the linuxchix site and I must say I'm extremely exited to be here! So I thought I'd post an introduction to say hello to the community! Ok, where to begin? My name's maxiie, I'm a self-professed girl geek of many things. I've been using linux for the past 2 years now and I've been feeling like I'm drifting ashore a desert island. I live in a small town in england where, despite the heavy amounts of art students pottering around, they all seem to be mac users with no clue of open source, let alone about linux. The few people I do know and see often who use linux have only started using it since I introduced it to them. I dont run any other OSes than Linux/GNU ones- I tried windows about a year ago on my new pc and I didnt want to invalidate the warrantee by re-partitioning the HD, but I got so utterly frustrated, I formatted the computer and set up my partitions to run linux / XP dual boot. I then Never used windows ever again, and decided to just use linux solely and the rest, as they say is history! I'm not utterly n00by but i am prone to ask RTFM questions, so please don't flame me (another reason I joined the community!!). IRL, I'm a photographer / artist / musician, I speak english and Osaka Dialect Japanese (Albeit badly). I'm Bi, a Feminist and glad to be here!! Eveything else is in my interests lists; heracio diem! Seattle Chapter?
I'm interested in reviving the Seattle chapter of Linux Chix and wondered if anyone might have any tips? The group has been inactive for the past couple years (I wasn't part of it then) and I'm hoping to start it up again. I've been dialoging with the previous founder but I'd like to get advice here as well. THANKS! |

People Network Toy for Geeks
Okay, so I'm having fun with LinkedIn. It's a way to "network" without going to sleazy cocktail parties and other phoney stuff. My "network" is almost 100% geeks - even the recruiters and sales folks in it are geeky. I wonder when they'll let you add professional association network links... like LinuxChix! New Position
Well, I got a new position. Its for the school district and all they use are MAC's. Which is awesome, but, I have never worked with MAC other than my laptop. (of course they know this and I learn quick) I was wondering if anyone has any advice or tips on MAC's that I need to know. I start Monday but do know that the entire school systems use MAC servers as well as PC's and Laptops. |

Hardball for Women - Suggested Reading
I am currently reading a book that was recommended to me due to the fact that I worked in a corporate world and guys with less experience and less training than myself would be promoted over me. Its all about the guy thing it really is, but this book really has helped me understand why it was that way and how to overcome the "guy" attititudes and end up on top. It talks about how boys and girls are treated different starting the day they were born and how we were raised not only at home, but at school has set us apart. Reading this book, then going to my sons football practices and games I started totally understand. My youngest son has a girl on his team, when everyone thought she was a boy she had position right tackle, once they found out she was a girl, she is now second string. The book explains why! Now to just find me a job here in the Nashville area since we moved here so I can put some of what I learned to work, Elf |

Hubby - www.kenswain.com - has had an awesome year. He has a new position as an InfoSec Manager, at a different company. (thank goodness not at the one he was at) And now he has been asked to speak at PhreakNic. I have always known he is awesome and now everyone else is realizing it too. He is one of the smartest geeks that I have ever met. I cant wait to hear him speak. I have read his writings, I have had him as an Instructor so I know he can teach, but except for the letchures I have never heard him speak. I am so excited. If you all want to Hear something great show up Its in Nashville in October, I encourage you all to be there. His speach is about what he did. Its titled from a Hacker to Professional. If I werent so proud I might get jealous. HA Please excuse my cross posting! |

Linux+
I have been lurking this community and newsgroup for a while. I am definately a newbie when it comes to linux. I have to say I am really excited. I had just installed the newest debian I could find, Ubuntu, and then the next day my boss called me into her office and asked me if I wanted to take the Linux+ class. Whoot...I am so excited. I was going to learn by playing around with it, now I will at least learn some of the basics. I hope you ladies dont mind if I start asking newbie questions. I have learned so much from reading all of the newsgroups emails, and now I get to put some of what I read to work.
and might I say, my hubby is working at home to be with the 4 kids so I could come to trainig...double whoot!! (this is his first time alone for that long, he may need lots of prayers..hehe)

Women's communities on LiveJournal
Does anyone have any good points to LJ communities centered on women's
issues or topics that would interest geek women? I've found a couple of
interesting women's issue ones lately: ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif) body_positive, womenofstrength and feminist_rage. I haven't found any particularly good geeky ones, maybe
they're all on mailing lists.
A lot of communities on LJ seem to mainly consist of "hi, I'm Mary,
and this is a great community, you guys seem great, lol." I'd love
pointers to other communities with more interesting discussion going on. |

More Homework Help please
Does anyone know of a current site that has a chart showing the growth of technology schooling broke down into men and women ? (enttering and graduating) I am also trying to find a site that shows pay scales and such. I have been googling and using school library with no success. Thanks for any help that any one can give. Home work Help - Sioned said that you all maybe able to help!
I was wondering if I could get some help. . I am a Root Cause Analyst for a major banking company, That is not why I am writing tho. I am taking college courses to enable me to receive my CIS degree (I am already a MCSE) ok..for that out of the way ....What I need help is a paper I am writing. My thesis is : Silicon valley no longer belongs to the boys as the advancement of women level the playing field. I was hoping that possibly someone could send me your information to share, or some links to help me prove my point. I have found some interesting articles but nothing that would fill up 10 pages. I am really interested in this. What I would like to see is your current postition what it took you to get there, (I am still struggling to get to the positions where the guys in my class are, who scored lowered than me on my test and who still come ask me for advise.) linuxchix.org downtime
linuxchix.org seems to be undergoing extended downtime. I'm posting here mainly because it will show up on LinuxChix Live (which has a DNS ttl of 5 days, so people who were regulars may still be able to see it). I haven't heard any reason why it is down, can anyone with news post a comment to this post? -Mary |
