WMware images
I heard somewhere that one can download VMWare images of linux distros. Does anyone know anything about this? Does they require VMWare itself, or are they "self executing?" Thanks.

They are images of virtual machines.

You must have a copy of vmware (the free player or server ought to be adequate) to use them.

You can get some of them from vmware directly (they call them "appliances")

I think it depends on who makes the image, thoughtpolice provides them as zips, vmplanet possibly does .7z files (I just checked one). You won't need VMWare to open them but you'll need VMWare to use the images.

If you're not sure, you could always go for VMWare Server and create your own virtual machine.

You could find out about those directly from the VMWare site itself.

There are of course other sources. You will always need to have the free VMWare Server or VMWare Player installed to use a VMWare image.
