Why Link and Midna?
It is the moderator's opinion that out of all possible pairings in Twilight Princess, LinkxMidna seems more plausible than the rest. It is apparent that there is a mutual understanding between the two from the get-go: that they need each other, even though at first neither really want to. As the story progresses and they face challenge after perilous challenge together, defying death and looking out for one another, there forms an unbreakable bond that transcends realms.
From Midna, we see glimpses of her affection quite often early on in the story. After Zelda and Link saved her life, she adopted a new opinion of the people of the Light Realm. It is obvious, between not-so-subtle touches and suggestive gestures, that Midna's gratitude paves the way for a deep affection that only gains strength as the story progresses.
From Link, we see unwavering concern and protection. Each new task brings an influx of catastrophe that they must face together, the brunt of which usually being dealt to poor Midna. As Link is not as expressive as the rest of the cast, it can be argued either way just how he feels about Midna. But seeing as how there is so very little insight to the way he thinks or what he feels, the times we do see him express himself when it comes to Midna and her well-being speaks volumes.
Do you have anything against Princess Zelda?
Absolutely not. The moderator herself is a huge Link/Zelda fan, and a fan of Zelda herself in general. It's simply that the Link and Zelda of Twilight Princess do not seem like likely candidates for one another due to the nature of their relationship in this storyline. If anything, the only bond they share is the one ordained by the goddesses.
