David's Misery

  • Aug. 21st, 2008 at 10:10 AM

As seen on WordPress.

I'm fairly sure this is old news to some (but not to me, darn it!) Tennant pretends to be kidnapped by a crazed fan in order to play a trick on an unsuspecting estate agent:

The best part, of course, is the bit where the less heroic estate agent runs away. He could have at least untied David, eh? I might have been unhelpful myself in that situation. I'd probably be too busy snapping pics with my phone cam and posting them to the 'net. :P

I got an embarrassing amount of glee out of Michael Phelps talking about Ian Thorpe in some stupid Today Tonight interview tonight. IDK, guys. IDK. I am also irrationally depressed about the Olympics being over. I want gymnastics and swimming and running and diving on my TV all the time, dammit!

Today has been completely unproductive; the most I achieved was getting dressed. And that only happened because I needed something to do while waiting for something to download.

And now so this post isn't completely usless, a couple of vid recs!

What We Had by [info]cherryice (DW): Life as a companion is't all fun and games. This is seriously AWESOME stuff. Kind of painful to watch, but well worth it. God, Ten is a DICK.

I Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor by [info]charmax (LoM/A2A): Gene and the two most important people in his life. Other than Donna. There are so many fucking awesome vids in this fandom, and this one does not dissappoint. Fun, boppy, and just generally COOL.

So yeah, you should watch them both. And now I am off to actually bookmark some stuff on my delicious account.

I've been tagged by two people for that recent shipping meme, which in and of itself is amazing, considering I only get tagged for memes maybe twice a year. I would normally be a really good choice for this meme -- I'm a pretty avid shipper these days, and I love to post pretty pictures, right? It's perfect. Except that some of my top ships don't have pictures as an option. Also, I've not had the time to go hunting down screencaps and then pretty them up. Yet, I feel like I need to do this meme because TWO TAGS, HELLO.
1. List your top seven ships
2. Put all of them in order of your love for them; 7 to 1, 1 being your favorite.
3. Name their fandom.
4. Supply photos for said people.
5. Tag seven people: If you want to do it, do it.

This list may surprise some of you. )

I remain fairly inert most days, and this is becoming a problem. I inherited a fast metabolism from the women on my father's side of the family, so I can be super lazy and not have to worry too much about weight gain, but I've put a little on. More importantly, I am horrifically out of shape. Our house is at the bottom of a pretty steep hill (About a 45 degree angle, no lie), and on Tuesday Lacy and I began what will eventually be a daily regimen of walking all the way up the hill and back down. It's good, I'm glad we're doing it, but my calves are so sore. Lacy gets more exercise than I do, and he was walking weird yesterday. I'm glad we're doing this, don't get me wrong, but I'm definitely feeling it.

---

There is apparently a Snaps Cup Meme happening, presumably to counter yesterday's anonymeme. I'm not in it, but you might be inclined to drop your name in and get some loving.

So Stargate Atlantis has been cancelled, or will "end its run" as they are phrasing it. Season 5 will end and then there'll be a TV movie, probably to wrap up the Wraith storyline... which, yknow has gone all of nowehere in 4 and something years. At least with the Goa'uld storyline in SG-1 which went on for 8 YEARS, it felt like we were progressing and slowly destroying the powerful System Lords. With SGA there's just random bad guys who happen to have long white hair.

Hmm. I'm a little... perturbed by news of the cancellation, I would say, but not exactly upset. I mean... it's Stargate Atlantis for Pete's sake. I want to viciously smack Joe Flanigan / Sheppard in EVERY episode. He never gets any forking better, he's always just... irritating and look-at-me-I'm-so-sarcastic. Teyla and Rodney are the only ones I'll miss. I was getting attached to Dr Keller and Woolsey, but what can ya do?

And who wants to bet it was cancelled to make way for the third Stargate series Stargate Universe? All I hope is that SU and the SGA movies don't get in the way of the possible future SG-1 DVD movies, because that is where I'm at, always, will this franchise. SGA hasn't topped SG-1 by a long shot and I'm dubious if SU, being set on a ship like EVERY other sci-fi show, will do much better.

I'm just looking forward to Daniel Jackson's mid-season appearance in SGA now. And also the very final epsiode. When it ends. Thank fuck. No more Sheppard. It's unlikely they'll kill him off right?

......

Damn it.

desk time lords

  • Aug. 21st, 2008 at 1:31 PM
guess what i have :)

the answer is 'a new peter davison action figure', btw, rather than 'a worrying obsession with taking picture of my desk whilst i should be working'*. it looks a lot more like him than any new who action figure has ever looked like the person it is supposedly of (see ten and simm!master next to five, for example), but is unaccountably without celery. i'm not sure why the master is upset about hanging around with five and ten - presumably he has remembered that he hates and wants to kill the doctor and therefore having two doctors around is very bad indeed, rather than all the fun of the fair. stupid new who action figures.

on this note, watched 'frontier in space' on monday and it is now officially my favourite three story simply because of how much the master forgets this supposed raison d'etra and during one of frontier's many locked-in-a-cage scenes refers to the doctor's 'sickening loveability'. also jo's speech about how the doctor should perhaps stop being such a bastard to the master, to which, of course, the doctor is not actually listening. i don't think i've said it before, but i love jo - not just for this, for many things. i think she's awesome. probably one of my top 5 companions.

continuing the who theme: watched 'dalek' again yesterday (sogood. one of my main regrets in life is that i wrote series 1 off after 10 minutes of 'rose' as embarrassing rubbish and therefore didn't watch it real time because i am a moron). it was on iPlayer and i wanted to get nine's voice right for the nasty angry nine/simm thang that i was writing until yesterday. instead dalek just gave me an idea of nauseating sweetness for the shalka-redux i was writing about a month ago and am now writing again. i love writing nine/shalka!master, it's so easy and lovely. after all my whining about how his voice is so hard, i'm going to be very sorry to kill nine off, but the plot must roll on since i have actually one for once.

nothing non-who to report, sorry. my hair looks pretty today. sadly although no one has said anything about how nice it is since i got it cut, on tuesday one of the cartographers we share the floor with complimented me on the lime green braces i'd written off as a Big Mistake To Never Be Worn Again Ever Seriously Burn Them Later. i don't understand these people.

*yes, that is a gallifreyan translation of shakespeare's sonnet XVIII stuck to my computer screen. i am that cool.

Pulis Pangkalawakan Moira says: "No! Absolutely not! That impractical, brazen hussy! Going into battle in that ridiculous tasseled skirt! What was she trying to do? Oh, I'll tell you what she was trying to do! She was throwing herself all over Alexis!" In the interest of fairness, Moira adds that she grew up on the show and that she is probably in love with Alexis/Shaider.

My sister the Vengeance Bunny counters: "Yes! Panty-shots be damned! Absolutely! Unlike a lot of other female characters in similar shows, she wasn't there to get kidnapped. She assisted Alexis in so many of their missions - even saved him a couple of times! She more than held her own against the colorful Amazonas!" In the interest of fairness, the Vengeance Bunny adds that she, too, grew up on the show and that she is probably in love with Annie.

While Fuuu-ma Mae-Ann wonders, excitedly: "Wasn't Shaider looking for the lost Empire of Mu? Did he ever find it? Oh my god! I remember back in high school for our history class our teachers discussed the possibility of the Philippine islands being parts of the lost continent thought to have resurfaced! Are they still teaching that? Is any of that actually true? Did anybody ever tell Alexis?"

Chapter 3 - Kill Switch

Oliver eyed the ten scientists he’d taken captive over three weeks ago. He’d kept them in the same room, not allowing them to bathe, only feeding them the blandest of food, unsweetened oats, but not having the trays removed. He hadn’t allowed even plastic cutlery, lest his captives decide to use them to commit suicide. They were remarkably trained, since most people would have broken within a week, but three weeks of smelling one another’s body funk and trash from rotten, leftover food, had begun to have a definite effect on them. One that was very favorable for Oliver Queen.

So, I'm watching the Olympics and what I think is show jumping comes on. And people are falling off, left and right, knocking down fences, getting kicked in the head and showing APPALLING horsemanship, horses are falling over, freaking out and acting like donkeys, all the while I'm ranting at Becca about it TO THE MAX,yo. It was TERRIBLE. So it ends and the commentator says that it's the...Men's Modern Pentathlon.

Bwah? What's a Men's Modern Pentathlon?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_pentathlon

BWAH!?

What's terrible is showjumping is on another channel and they're jumping bigger jumps and looking like they're not completely stupid and have never seen a horse in their lives before. And it just makes these Pentathlon-ers look like even WORSE riders.

Anyway, I've never heard of this event before, though it does kinda make me want Chris to be one of these dudes (only..better at riding). I'm always saying he needs to learn to ride a horse and such so he can be my knight in shining armour. Sort of. Though this is more a..."Are you posh and of the upper class and know how to do gentleman's sports?" test.

I feel so much better though. I was like, "OMG what is WRONG with these riders!? They're meant to be Olympic riders! What has happened to my favorite sport?". At least now I know that they're not specializing in showjumping and sucking. The ones specializing in showjumping (that's on now) look so much better.

Chapter 2 - The Eye of the Storm

We live in a world ruled by shadows. It is a necessary evil, for wherever there is light, there is some sort of darkness to offset it, to bring definition to the world in which we live. Some shadows are harmless, being nothing more than an absence, or a lessening of the presence of light. You can find comfort and solitude in darkness, and that is a good thing, for no human was meant to live completely without darkness at all times.

Chapter 1 - At The Fortress
Rating: Older teen to adult
Pairings: Largely undecided, definitely some Chlollie
Summary: In Kryptonian Nature, Clark and Kara were kidnapped by the
Shadow Society, people who knew much more about Krypton and Clark’s
heritage than they should have, as well as how to control him. Now Clark
sets out to discover who these people are and how to stop them once and
for all before his secret can be exposed to more people. He must find a
way to contain this threat if he ever hopes to have a normal life. Unfortunately
Clark
soon realizes that the answers he seeks to find may be tightly tied
in with the Fortress of Solitude, Jor-El’s AI, and the late Lionel Luthor.

The Fortress of Solitude was a dreary place, cold, dark mostly, and desolate. Clark Kent was invulnerable to the cold and he could see in the dark, but the constant, lonely howl of the wind chilled him in ways that had nothing to do with temperature. The wind blowing over miles of flat, snow-covered land and weaving its way through the crystal spires that mimicked a world Clark couldn’t remember ever seeing, made his heart heavy in his chest.

If you don't see me on LJ anymore after this week-end, it means I got lost in public transportation somewhere in the Midlands.

Am freaking out a little BUT I survived London, Stansted and planes without my wallet so I guess I can do it.

I have new hair, again :D Will ask someone to take a pic this afternoon, if the mood strikes.

You can't cheat death

I watched "Final Destination 3" last night - I'd only fairly recently watched the 2nd one which is probably quite weird considering I'm a massive fan of the first "Final Destination". I guess I was worried about the sequels ruining the memory or something. Anyway, I quite enjoyed the 3rd, especially the references to the events in the first movie. I didn't think the death scenes were quite as good though, they seemed a bit more unrealistic to me. Where as the ones in the first film seemed somehow scarier to me.

The third was a good movie though - I think the whole trilogy is a good one - with a good cast and it's always fun trying to figure out exactly how the characters are gonna die.

I Sky+ed "The Nine" because of watching the movie. I'll hopefully try and watch it tonight.

In other news: [info]nicky_disaster has gone to get her GCSE results today. Good luck, Nicks! :D
