Here's a great little comic by Joey Weiser, creator of the online comic series, The Ride Home

Joey writes:

"Pretty simple idea, but it was just fun to try to recreate the Mario world as accurately as possible,
within my style. The Mario games are always my favorites, but sometimes I feel like they bring out
this sadistic and violent side of me that I wasn't aware of!!"

Finally, another mind-smashing piece from everyone's favorite Miss Monster!

"I remember sweating bullets when facing Bowser back in my Super Mario
days. I wanted to draw a Bowser that looked like he could eat your
face for breakfast. There is something sort of cute about this version
but it might be a case of a face only his "mother" could love."

Mario and Link. They dominate Life Meter like moths on a screen door in summer. Now, it's become a matter of seeing really interesting and special versions of both of these characters.

I've enjoyed Matthew Armstrong's work for quite some time now. I think I first found out about him through the comic book Akiko by Mark Crilley. His website is really one of the few that I have in my bookmarks folder on Firefox, and I had been saying that I wanted to contact him to do something for Life Meter. But Matthew must have some sort of telepathic powers. As though he was cosmically answering my psychic summons, he sent us these two companion pieces out of the blue and I am in love with them!

If ever there were to be Nintendo greeting cards, these would be them!  Matthew, I think, sums up all of our sentiments when he says "These little characters are very close to my heart and I shudder to think how much of my life I've spent staring at them on screen."  Amen.
There is more of Matthew Armstrong's beautiful work on his site ; and see if you can find his resemblence to an aforementioned plumber!

[Current Mood | silly]

It's been a bit quiet here, so let's change that!  These twin pieces come from artist Kristen George. Peach looks very cute in Luigi gear, but Luigi... well...   Maybe he should stick to his green hat and overalls.  I wonder what Mario would think...

cosplay!

We've already got some more art from Kristen in the hopper, but we want to keep you salivating for more! So for now, enjoy this fun cosplay tribute and be sure to check out her website where she has tons more video game art!

This is a bit too long in coming, and for that, I apologize! This is a really fun drawing by Debbie Huey, creator of the irrepressible Bumperboy! It looks like Toad has taken the infamous Kuribo's Shoe, which made it's first and only appearance in the mega-super-ultra-hit of the late 80's, Super Mario Bros. 3.
Did I mention that this is essentially a sneak peek for Debbie's Life Meter comic? I remember going back and forth with Debbie on what the heck Kuribo's shoe might be. Who WAS this Kuribo fella? But Western localization of the game proved to have the answer. "Kuribo" is just the Japanese name for something we call in some circles, a "Goomba". Ah, well. Can't wait to see this story in action, Debbie!
