01:48 am - Fic, Rest and Observation, by Cotinus, Brown Cortina

I've lurked around this community, reading and hugely enjoying it for a very long time now without posting, but the Sam and Gene love has overcome me and I've lost my ficcing virginity to the boys.  Even created a new account especially for their 'activities'.  Having never written fic before today, much less conjured up the porn, I'm more than a little nervous about this.  But here goes.  Constructive criticism would be very welcome.  As I say,  I'm flailing around in the dark a bit here!

Title: Rest and Observation
Author: Cotinus
Word Count: 2823
Rating: Brown cortina for the complete PWP
Pairing: Sam/Gene

10:26 am - Fic: Earthling (Bowie challenge), white cortina, by Sytaxia
Title: Earthling Drabbles
Author: Sytaxia
Rating: White Cortina
Warning: I tried going with "introspective" for most of these, so I hope they don't come across as too soppy.
Words: 900+Titles

Written for [info]fawsley and [info]elfbert's drabble challenge: write a 100 word (no more, no less) piece for each track on a Bowie album.  And here we are, each exactly 100 words (not counting title), for each track on the "Earthling" album.

10:36 am - Fic: One of These Mornings, white cortina, by Sytaxia
Title: One of These Mornings
Author: Sytaxia
Rating: White Cortina
Words: 584
Warnings: angst
A/N: Sort of a songfic, but without lyrics, as there is only one repeated line in the song that it was inspired by, which is "One of These Mornings" from Moby's "18."

10:40 am - Fic: Door to Door, white cortina, by Sytaxia
Title: Door to Door
Author: Sytaxia
Rating: White Cortina
Words: 356

So, a while back, [info]liquorishflame had a birthday, and posted a challenge that we all write an LoM ficlet with the title of an episode from one of her other favorite shows.  This is months after the challenge, but I'm horrible about getting challenge fics done quickly, so I hope that she doesn't mind the very belated birthday fic...

Life on Mars: Coppers
12:37 pm - Fic, Dust to Dust, White Cortina, by DorsetGirl

Title: Dust to Dust

Author: DorsetGirl

Fandom: Life on Mars / Ashes to Ashes transition or crossover.

Disclaimer: I don’t own these characters or their universe. BBC/Kudos do. I’m not making any money out of this.

Rating: White Cortina

Characters, Pairings: Gene, Alex, implied Sam/Gene

Word Count: 500

A/N: This fic has come out of the conflict I have between my Sam/Gene OTP and the fact that I’m finally enjoying Ashes to Ashes, where Gene’s loneliness and vulnerability is breaking my heart, and in that distant universe I’d even accept Gene/Alex if that was the only way he could have happiness. There may be some denial going on here, although whether it’s on my part or Gene’s I couldn’t say.

ETA: I'm told that the presence of Alex's name in the character list might be putting some people off reading this. I can understand that, and it's obviously your choice; however, I'd just like to clarify that Alex is only seen via Gene's thoughts, and that's a COMMA between her name and Gene's, not a pairing. If I ever write Gene/Alex and post it here, it will be with suitable warnings, I promise!

03:32 pm - Castlefield Junction by fawsley, white Cortina with Sam and Gene
Title: Castlefield Junction
Author: fawsley
Characters: DCI/DI
Rating: white Cortina
Warning: nowt
Word Count: 360
Disclaimer: all the property of the BBC and Kudos
Notes: I do tend to dream of Genie, and last night saw him and Sam walking along the canal towpath not saying anything but meaning quite a lot. I'm happy enough writing the pair of them bantering like a couple of old biddies, but capturing introspective!Gene's voice is not something I've tried before and bloody difficult it is too (feel he's far too ey oop Northern here rewrote all that out). Of course this has nothing of the atmosphere of the dream, but I think it's the closest I'm going to get.

06:54 pm - Non-spoilery long fic request
This is my first post to this com, so *wave* hi. I really love Life on Mars, and would like to read some fics from the fandom, but unfortunately the second season is still screening where I live, and I'm only up to 2x05. So obviously, I haven't seen the big, scary spoiler and have managed to avoid references to it on the internet. *sigh* I really want to read some long, preferably Sam/Gene fic, but I'm wary of jumping in and getting burned, and then being depressed throughout the rest of the season because the anticipation is one of the best parts...

So with that in mind, could anyone rec me some medium/long LoM fics that don't spoil 2x08 or A2A? Either written before it screened or just not referencing it, I don't mind. Sam/Gene would be nice, but if it's really great I'll take any pairing or gen. Crossovers are fine too.

Thanks!

08:39 pm - Why lifein1973 loves Gene Hunt
I read the Why Women Love DCI Hunt article a few months ago, and while a agree with the majority of what that very smart journalist said, I was wondering - why do we here in the comm love DCI Hunt?

I was pondering this question while writing a fic that’s kicking my arse. I find the only way I can stop myself from deleting it when it becomes troublesome is trying desperately to remember why I started it in the first place. And the answer is because I love Gene (and Sam), or else I wouldn’t be here. Although, when I started thinking about it I couldn’t think why off the top of my head.

Maybe because Gene Hunt is so strait up honest and genuine. You do know exactly what you’re going to get - no games. And what you do get is someone who genuinely cares about people and wants to protect them. I feel safe with the idea of someone like Gene in charge. While he may have many vulnerabilities, you really do feel like when he’s in charge the fort’s safe and everything’s going to turn out fine. There is a genuine aura of him being able to take on the world and win. And at the end of the day I think these are some of the reasons Sam finds him appealing to. He’s frustrating and insensitive and often ignorant, but he’s fiercely loyal and what he does do is heartfelt. Plus, he genuinely does not care what anyone thinks of him, (with the exception of Sam,) and that’s a refreshing and attractive thing to see.

These were just a few reasons I could fathom, but I want to throw it out to you guys.

Why on earth do we love Gene Hunt?

11:38 pm - London A2A/LoM St. Paddy's Day Piss Up!
Sorry for this being rather OT for most of you...

But if you are coming to the great LoM/A2A St. Paddy's Day Piss Up tomorrow, in London, then I shall be gathering people who don't know the way to the pub at 4.30 outside 'Lush' in Victoria Station - it's on the concourse which leads to platforms 15-19. I shall loiter there, with a Gene badge on my handbag strap (provided I can find it), and hopefully a bunch of other people will join me there...

If you weren't gonna come, and this is the first you've heard of it, and you're in London tomorrow, then come along!! We shall be drinking in The Orange Brewery, Pimlico Rd. from about 4.30 tomorrow (Saturday) until we get thrown out.

This message will be deleted once we're all too far gone to remember who we are or what we're doing...

11:50 pm - Fic: You're My Villain, Red Cortina, by acidpenguin46
Title: You're my Villain
Author: [info]acidpenguin46
Pairing: Sam/Gene
Word Count: 2,111
Rating: Red Cortina
Warning: Graphic violence, slash, and while there is porn, you won't notice it because of all of the angst.
Summary: Sam has a slightly different view of the situation between him and Gene. Sam's perspective of the events in "I'm Your Villain."
Spoilers: References to big events in 2.8
Disclaimer: Unfortunately it's not mine, it all belongs to Kudos and the BBC.

NOTES: Anyone who wanted a somewhat happy resolution to "I'm Your Villain" is going to be somewhat disappointed, because this is angst with a side serve of angst, followed by an angst-ridden dessert. Not so much a sequel as the events retold from Sam's perspective, this particular take on events was inspired by a comment by [info]dorsetgirl, and encouraged by [info]m31andy. Don't say I didn't warn you there would be angst.
