Sorry to bother but I'm in the midst of writing fic and I have a quick medical question I wondered if anyone could answer.  Would it be possible in the 70's to decipher what specific drug a person had in their system?  Assuming they're dead that is.  I know in the episode with the OD the coroner determined he died of a cocaine overdose, but assuming the victim took more that one kind of drug, could they be picked out individually?

Also, my limited knowledge of drugs recollects that badly manufactured drugs can kill someone just from being poisonous, rather than killing from an overdose.  Like shoddy makers substitute with something they find around the crack den.  Specifically what could the deadly ingredient be? 

I've tried looking for this info, but I'm terrible at searching google.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!
