An open letter to my patrons...
Every time you drum your fingers on the desk, tap your foot, tap your watch, roll your eyes, sigh and look put upon, and/or tell me that you're in a hurry, I move a little slower.

No love,

Me

It's the day before Independence Day. Most of the banks are closed. Some of the businesses are closed. (It's a small town.) Sadly, we're still open.

Everyone wants to check out a dozen or more movies right now, because we'll be closed tomorrow and they can't wait until Monday for their video fix.

Yeah. Thankfully, my library is closed today and tomorrow.(oh people are going to be pissed about today, though, even though we've had signs up on all library doors for the past month.)

That always used to happen at the town library I worked at. Over holiday weekends people could take out as many videos as they wanted, instead of just the limit of three. Never failed, this same woman would come in every single holiday weekend and just sweep the entire video collection into her bag.

I don't suppose she ever thought about the fact that she would have to stay up for 48 hours straight to watch all of those movies she was taking home. She just didn't want anyone else to see them.

I've always wondered what people are thinking when they take, say, 20 videos at a time. They can't watch them all before they're due back. I assume they just want them on hand so they can decide later what to watch.

At the branch I used to work at, there was one woman who routinely had 100+ videos checked out at one time (there were no limits). I always assumed she was running a video piracy business.

My library is closed today and OPEN TOMORROW, thanks to the county, which forgot that some county offices ARE actually open on Saturday and therefore declared only Friday as a holiday. Fortunately, it's not my Saturday to work.

Hoo, I feel for you. I remember the infamous Thanksgiving weekend when our ENTIRE video collection was gone, and then all returned that following Monday. OMG, I pretty much did nothing but check in videos for 8 hours straight. Every surface in my office was piled FEET high with videos, the old VHS, as this was several years ago. I still shudder to think of it.

I worked today and it was a nightmare...I thought all these people had gotten a jump start on their 4th of July weekend.

And my sympathies to anyone who has to work this weekend. ;-;

My sympathies to those of you who had to work today, and who will be working on Sunday. We were closed today, and we're closed tomorrow and Sunday as well. But I'm certain that bright and early Monday morning, there will be minimum 3 dozen people licking the front windows and knocking each other down on their way to the self-reservation station because ZOMG NO INTERNETS FOR THREE WHOLE DAYS!!!!

Screw that, I'm library IT. I hate everyone by default and no one hints that I work on public holidays unless they want random shit deleted from their profile...

I go slower too! Purely to keep calm and not make any mistakes because over-rushed, obviously ;) Sometimes they even stop their hurry gestures.

We were open the Friday AND the Sunday. I bet if those slave drivers here at Backwater Rural Branch (BRB) U could have found a way to stay open Saturday, they would have. By the way, the local hick community college closed the entire weekend. I don't think their students missed it. Even the local public library closed on Friday.
