web 2.0 et al
Hey gang,

A few months back I posted about a project I was doing about networking amongst librarians (especially library students). I didn't follow up on it because I jumped the gun big time and ended up getting swamped with assignments (you know how it can be). The project has become a lot more focused and what I'm interested in is the usage of web 2.0 technologies (which to be honest I'm not terribly familiar with) and community building/networking amongst librarians/library students. Here in the UK there is dick-all and the minor attempts that are made to construct some sort of network generally go ignored. It appears that there is loads more happening in the US. If anyone can point me towards examples or have any experiences they would share, I would be vey grateful!

Hope the books are treating you well,
Alison

You might want to look into the book Library 2.0 and Beyond as a starting point.

Yes, there is a lot... this LJ community is one. There are some other library groups on LJ too. There are library related groups on Facebook. I'm pretty sure there are more wikis around as well... and there are always the bunches of librarian bloggers.

That's all I can think of right now...

Second for Library 2.0. It's a really great resource. Also Web 2.0 in libraries.
Also, you could always stick with the tried and true listserv. I'm sure PubLib had to start somewhere...
On purely selfish American note...how is the job market in the UK?

sorry it took me so long to get back to you. the job market in the UK is alright - most of the folks in my class haven't had too much trouble finding a job. however, librarians in the uk seem to make a lot less than they would in the US or Canada. check out cilip's website for some advice. a large majority of the jobs appear to be based in london, which is great if you like london, but if you are trying to go elsewhere (I'm in Manchester) the pickings are much slimmer.
