So I was reading this awesome SPN story [20 Jul 2008|09:08am]

giandujakiss
And it was so well-written, and long, and plotty, and it was all Dean angst, and I was crying and savoring every word, and it was gen and you know how I prefer Wincest but it was okay because Sam and Dean Loved Each Other Even Without Sex, and I was breathless to see how it would end and hopeful that Everything Would Be Okay, and I was wondering why I hadn't seen this story on every rec list known to SPN fandom, and I was just happily reading along enjoying the hell out of myself and then it turned out ...

... the story is unfinished and hasn't been updated in almost a year.

[ mood | ouch my muscles ]

I rode Jimi bareback yesterday. Long about 3pm today my thigh muscles and lower back are going to be very unhappy.

I used to ride Gunner bareback EVERYWHERE. Its probably what made me such a good rider. Bless Gunner's heart, he was, by far, the best horse in the world. They just don't make them like Gunner anymore. I haven't ridden bareback in almost 5 years. When James was a baby I hopped on him bareback once, but it confused him. He didn't do anything bad, he just didn't do anything right.

Yesterday was a barrel of monkeys. I've lost a lot of body strength from not riding bareback. It was fun trying "stick on" and still have proper form ROFL. (Almost slid off twice). All [info]happy_appy1and I did was laugh. I saidto her, "I dont' think I'll be cantering today." Heh heh. I'd have slid off for sure!

So, for something new, I am going to ride Jimi bareback at least once a week - it will help us both with our balance (and help get my aging and lazy bod back into shape.) I need to get that pony outside again--all we do is ride in the indoor arena. Hopefully next week we can use the outdoor paddock. Since he grew up in a show ring, nothing about shows bothers him (e.g. horses, barking dogs, children running about, mopeds, golf carts, trucks, trailers, you name it.) But get that pony in the field and OMG! sheds and aderondak chairs eat horses. pfht.

Side note: today is going to be a huge day. I STILL have to finish that darn ritual, tidy up the living room (I've given up trying to put my laundry away--I just suck at it) and get everything ready for tonight before I head out early to set up.

Time for coffee.

weeping over advertisements [20 Jul 2008|08:36pm]

msgenevieve
A little while back I posted about how we all have songs that make us weep, and how sometimes you really need those songs. [info]svilleficrecs's choice of song reminded me that sometimes it's a combination of images and music that really stir the emotion, and tonight I had another reminder.

The following advert is for a Telco company that I basically despise - it's an Australian tradition to despise them, in fact. *g* They're using a wonderful song called "I am Australian" which was written by Bruce Woodley from The Seekers to promote their sponsorship of the 2008 Olympic Games. It's not the first time they've used the song, but it's their first advert (released a few years ago) that never fails to bring me to tears.

I don't care how much I hate this company, or how much I'm letting them play me like the sucker I am. Watching that grandmother listening to her grandchild's cry over the telephone for the first time just made me bawl like a baby myself. I don't go around waving an Australian flag either, but wow, this song combined with these images just makes me go all emotional and weepy.

Sheesh.

Time for a stiff drink and an early night, I think, lol!

Star Trek character posters from EW. [imdb]

EW's exclusive preview of Zack Snyder's adaptation of Watchmen. [imdb]

Official still of Christian Bale as John Connor, from Terminator: Salvation. [imdb]

The trailer for The Dark Knight...starring children.

Season three Dexter cast promo pictures.

5 allegories for Charlize Theron's role in Hancock (contains spoilers). The director Peter Berg would probably be displeased, considering how his aim in life is to remain neutral and apolitical.

Some more Dune related quotes from Peter Berg:
“We’re just starting with writers now, I’ve been impressed with the intensity of the Dune fans offering me their comments and their postings and the way they’ve been sending me letters. My feeling is that having read the book twice cover to cover, which I wonder whether some of these guys have actually done, it’s a great adventure tale, it’s a big, rough, fun, intense, dramatic tale. I think if you reread the book and look at even the original Star Wars you’ll see that George Lucas borrowed heavily from Frank Herbert. The Force is as much Frank Herbert as anything I’ve ever read.”
Berg is directing the upcoming movie adaptation of the novel. You'd think he know better than to insult the fans before he's even started filming? And he goes on:
“What I love about Dune is there’s a real human quality to that book that gets lost if it’s all just scope. Obviously there is scope, y’know, there’s 100 metre monster earth worms that come up, they’re the most ferocious creatures ever put on film…”
Because "scope" is something directly measurable by the number of effects dollars spent...

So, Starbucks is closing down 600 of its U.S. stores? Can they do the same in Australia? Maybe then it'll be easier to get actual decent coffee in the metropolitan areas.

The Hiatus Fic Challenge #8 has just been posted at [info]pbhiatus_fic.

There's only forty-three days left to go, and this particular challenge has been partly inspired by the new Season Four Promo Photograph, and the talk about the characters' shiny new (well, except Michael and his lovely brown jacket) clothes.

2008 Hiatus Challenge #8: Clothes Make The Man (and Woman)
What do I have to do?: Write a story using clothing as the main theme. Dark, happy, angsty, fluffy, pre-series, post-series, canon or AU, het or slash or gen. Whatever you want to write, we want to read it.

So, uh, yes. Do feel free to jump on in, and thanks so much to everyone who's written for the previous challenges. *g*

So I'm on my way home from work after dropping off my co-worker and I pass a Papa John's pizza place. The sign in the front of the restaurant says:

Line 1: Try our Special
Line 2: Need Drivers

Melanie read as: Try our Special Need Drivers

I laughed the whole way home.

[ music | "Nine Times Blue" by The Monkees" ]

Today was the Chad & Jeremy and Peter & Gordon concert which I was not able to attend. I'm really bummed about it too, I was so looking forward to it. To ease my disappointment I went out and bought myself an iTunes gift card. Which leads me to my next topic. Anybody have any suggestions on what I should buy? I always have a huge list of songs that I want but I always forget them whenever I buy the card.
The songs I've gotten so far are:
"Just Like A Woman" by Bob Dylan
"The Leaves that Are Green" by Simon & Garfunkel
"Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison
"White Room" by Cream
"Lemon Tree" by Chad & Jeremy
"Livin' Thing" by ELO
"Nine Times Blue (Demo Version)" by The Monkees
"Till Tomorrow" by Don McLean
I've still got $12 left on my card. (I bought a game too.)

I went to pick my sister up from work today with my other sister... Wait, it's about time I tell you their names it will make things less confusing. My blonde sister is Hannah she's one year older than me and my full sister and Jessica is the red head who is two years older than me and is my half sister. She's also the one who's going to be dating soon. Anyway, back to the story.
Jessica and I went to pick up Hannah from work today early because we had to get some ice cream for Mum. Jessica also works with Hannah (at Publix) so she knows everyone there. I barely know anybody so I just smiled and tried to be friendly while I listened to work drama and some guy flirted with me. (Which I completely missed. lol) My sister went in the back to hear all the juicy details of the latest hook up while I, carrying slowly defrosting ice cream strolled the isle aimlessly waiting to go home to watch the Woody movie I had recorded.
The three of us used to be so close but now the two of them have jobs with coworkers and a whole world of friends and inside jokes that I am not privy to. I feel sort of displaced. I've always depended on them to be my friends but now that they're getting their own I'm becoming more and more of an introvert. I seriously need to get some friends of my own. This is becoming depressing. :/
I'm probably just in a grumpy mood because I'm so disappointed about Vegas. I saved non stop since January when they announced the concert and I still had nowhere near enough. I mean, WTF? Why can't $1200 get two people to Vegas!? Whatever. I'm gonna go take a bath... even though it's almost 2:30am.

Gawker Q&A with Joss Whedon:
Q. In my dreams I traverse great depths and voids of unnamed space and find myself in a netherworld where untold numbers of Buffy and Firefly props are just laying around and I can just take them back to my apartment and mount them in the sweetest little shrines. What Buffy/Firefly props have you held onto as personal mementos?

A. I have a life-sized Sean Maher made of human flesh that keeps screaming that it's the real Sean Maher and I should unchain it. Amazing technology!

The Truth is Never Pure, Never Simple

Rated: NC 17 for smut and language with just a wee bit of angst thrown in for good measure.

Pairing: Mohinder x Sylar

Characters: Sylar, Mohinder, Peter, Bennet

Word Count: 6941

Summary: Mohinder and Sylar had gotten good at ignoring the truth, but a few 'well-meaning' people and a couple of drinks had other ideas.

Beta: [info]etoile_dunord whose edits were just so spot on and incredible. Thank you so much for all your hard work. I appreciate it so much!

AN: This was written for both [info]levitatethis and [info]widestance75 for their winning entries, “The Fallibility of Time,” and 'On the Other Side,' for the [info]mylar_fic 10 word prompt challenge.

The Dark Knight and the Iron Princess [19 Jul 2008|08:06pm]

Okay, first Batman. My brother said he was surprised not to find my thoughts already posted this morning so here is my attempt to make up for it -- though HE has already heard most of it.

Not Entirely Coherent Thoughts and Spoilers for The Dark Knight )

And now, introducing: IRON PRINCESS

Drawn by my husband, made up by my daughter. Yes, that is Sleeping Beauty's Aurora in an Iron Man-esque suit. :)

Thanks to [info]purplemoongrl, without whom I would probably be spoilerless! *squishes her*

Link to filming a scene of which we have already seen a glimpse in the latest promo, hurrah!

And here is a nice 'action' picture of Michael (probably spoilery, although it's impossible to tell what's going on) shamelessly borrowed from Emma80 at EXcommunicated. :)
