Creating creative sparks
About:The idea here is to stimulate each other to write. There will be no punishment since Lucius still hasn't returned the whips he borrowed to play with Severus.
The original intention was to use this community for writing which is not fandom related. Original stuff. Then I figured - hell, lack of discipline or encouragement is universal!
Original or (any) fandom related - it's all welcome here.

You are welcome to join. Flaming or other disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated. I trust everybody to be mature enough for me to not have to screen first. If you do behave disrespectfully towards any of the other members, you will be removed without warning. I'm really strict about this.

Please make sure to post excerpts in a f-locked post.

So... What's the big idea?

We write! The idea is to write spontaneously. As a sort of incentive, there is the acclaim and support of everyone else crazy enough to join this community.

It's got a very finite time frame: 3 hours in which to write as hard and as fast as you can! Also, the goal here is to encourage prolific writing – we want to write lots, but we’re not concerned at this point about quality. This is to encourage the fast, free, uninhibited creative writing that speed enables us to find.

A regular weekly schedule asks each participant to start at 21.00 on Saturday evening (in your time zone) and write only 'til midnight - so you can ring in the new day with the sense of accomplishment that comes with any fun, spontaneous creative endeavour!

1. We welcome discussion, encouragement, bragging, venting, brainstorms, advice, etc. in this community.

2. Tell us, once your three hours are up, how it went for you - how much you wrote in word count and any experiences you want to share with us from the night or your writing.

How did you come up with such a weird idea?.

Nicked it. Shamelessly. From the [info]auld_lang_snape community. May I be forgiven. *Ducks*

I participated in the HP New Year’s Eve Drabble Fest. We had to write as much drabbles as we could in three hours time.
Being an expert in postponing as well as being a notorious perfectionist, I always find excuses not to write. Always.

By participating in this drabble fest, I forced myself to sit and write. Point. No excuses allowed. Also, the idea that others were sharing this experience at the same time as me felt surprisingly good, uplifting and inspiring. The fact that we’d have to ‘show’ (some of our) work the next day worked as a big stick. To be honest, I think I need that.
That got me thinking – are there more people like me? Who’d like to write but then shy away and make up tons of excuses? Only to hate themselves afterwards because they didn’t write anything *again*?

How much am I supposed to write?

As little or much as you like. However, to encourage the sort of unpredictable creativity and wild flights of inspiration that can only come with fast-paced writing, we're setting the goal at 1000 words. To start with. Assuming 10 minutes for two wash room breaks or to stretch your hands.

Admin note: are 1000 words laughably easy, too hardcore, or just right? Feedback will be solicited after the first night so we can improve things for the next one.

Remember, the point is to stomp out writer's block, hammer out material you can use later and have fun! - not to create a masterpiece here.

What am I supposed to do with all my work when my three hours are done?

Remember, the point is to stomp out writer's block and have fun! - not to create a masterpiece here.

Having said that, a post will be put up the next day - please post your word count and any other comments to it.

Make your comments friendly and supportive. You may link to or cut explicit content, just remember to label it as such so people know what they're getting into before they click. Things that need to be labelled are: ratings of R or higher. Remember to f-lock it!

To sum up, if you're going to post – please, use appropriate rating warnings. Posts that do not follow these rules will be deleted.

The evening is over. Now what?

You have written something. Which is already more than you started out with. Now go and edit it any way you want.
Finished your story? Let us (we’re really of the very curious kind) know what you plan to do with it. Or already have done.
Then join us again for a next story!

Oh, and since English is not my first language, please excuse me for grammar mistakes. Feel free to point them out to me. I won't bite. Quickly.

Ejab

**Admin note**: we voted for the Saturday but when that really, really is a problem... you can (for instance) write 6 x 30 minutes during the week. The main focus is to push you into writing 3 hours a week at least and then once a week, you post the total word count.
