Hey everyone-new member here.
I just learned about the Lestat musical, well kind of anyway.
I read a review of it in the newspaper a while back, and it caught my eye because of the presences of Hugh Panaro and Carolee Carmello. It wasn't a nice review, but it seemed an interesting concept.
I just recently gained an interest in seeing it because of reading Interview With The Vampire and The Vampire Lestat and it's absolutely awful to know that I'll never be able to see it, especially after seeing Allison Fischer's performance of I Want More on youtube.
There are a few petition websites I found to bring it back (or at least release the soundtrack) if anyone's interested.

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/807097971

http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/lestat

http://www.petitiononline.com/bbld/petition.html

Spread the word and who knows?
Maybe something good will come of it.

Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina

I just thought we should say something about the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. I've been hearing about it all day and because of Anne Rice, have a special attachment to what happens there. If I could post pictures in here, I would. Peace.

So, My two year anniversary is coming up with my boyfriend. We saw Lestat in it's opening weeks in nyc and we figured it would be awesome if we could go and see it again next month.

Oh wait... It's not on broadway anymore.

Sigh. I'm just whining over here.

So, Does anybody have any news on the cast recording? After looking around on the interwebs it seems that it's still not gonna happen.

Lestat in Spain???

I just looked at the forum lestatmusical.com, and people were asking for sheet music for auditions, etc. One girl said she desperately needed music to audition for Claudia in an upcoming show in Spain. Does anyone know anything about this? How is that possible?

So, A few days ago I was talking with my boyfriend and I asked him if he would like to see Les Miserables with me.. From there we got into a discussion about which musicals he saw with me that he liked as we contemplated buying tickets for another show, Then he says..

"You know, I loved Lestat. If it was still playing I would definately go see it with you again."

And then I realized that I'm still in mourning for Lestat. :o

So, How are you all faring with the loss of Lestat and the complete lack news regarding the release of the stage recording?

I know I'm still pissed about it. I mean, Fine. Close the musical(bastards..) but atleast release the recording. :/

Carolee Carmello and Gregg Edelman Join RAGS Concert Cast!

Carmello and Edelman Join Fierstein, Kazan & Espinosa in RAGS, The 4th Annual World AIDS Day Concert

On December 11th, 2006, the 4th Annual World AIDS Day Concert, presented by Jamie McGonnigal in association with The Joey DiPaolo AIDS Foundation will take place. This year’s presentation, a 20th Anniversary Concert of the Broadway musical Rags, will be held at Times Square’s brand new Nokia Theater.

Rags, with music by Tony Award winner Charles Strouse (Bye, Bye, Birdie; Annie), lyrics by Academy and Grammy Award winner Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Prince of Egypt), and a book by Tony Award winner Joseph Stein (Fiddler on the Roof, Zorba), premiered on Broadway in August of 1986. Though short-lived on Broadway with only 22 performances, Rags garnered 5 Tony nominations and leading lady, Teresa Stratas walked away with the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical.

Scheduled to appear in this year’s concert are 2-time Tony Nominee Carolee Carmello (Mamma Mia, Lestat, Parade) as Rebecca and 4-time Tony Nominee Gregg Edelman (Wonderful Town, Into the Woods) as Nathan. They will join previously announced cast members, Harvey Fierstein (Fiddler on the Roof, Hairspray) as Avram, Lainie Kazan (My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Beaches, The Nanny) as Rachel, Eden Espinosa (Wicked, Brooklyn) as young Bella, a new immigrant to America, David A. Austin (I Love You, Because) as Ben, a young Jewish entrepreneur focused on winning Bella’s heart and Struan Erlenborn (last year’s Secret Garden Concert, Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang) as young David. Also featured in the concert will be Aaron Berk (Hedwig), Max von Essen (Dance of the Vampires, Les Miserables), Stacia Fernandez (Drowsy Chaperone), Lisa Jolley (Hairspray), David Josefsberg (The Wedding Singer, Altar Boyz), and Colin Hanlon (Rent, I Love You Because), Ciaran Sheehan (Phantom of the Opera), Other casting will be announced shortly. The concert will be hosted by MTV News correspondent , Sway.

Rags, tells the story of Rebecca, an immigrant who finds herself and her young son, David, very much alone in the brand new world of America. Through Rebecca’s encounters and relationships with others experiencing similar struggles, Rags tells of the American experience when the “melting pot,” was an ideal many hoped to be a part of. In a time when immigration is a heavily debated topic, Rags reminds us of the intense struggle so many of our immigrant ancestors fought, to make this country what it is today.

Stafford Arima (Altar Boys, The West End’s Ragtime, The Secret Garden in Concert) will be directing the concert and Mark Hartman (Avenue Q, Pippin & Children of Eden Concerts, Pippin National Tour) will serve as music director. Designers joining the team for the upcoming concert include lighting designer Traci Klainer, sound designers Walter Trarbach and Tony Smolenski, set designer, David Korins, costume designers Michael Bottari and Ronald Case, and choreographer Patricia Wilcox.

The World AIDS Day Concerts were founded in 2003 by Jamie McGonnigal and Kate Shindle to help raise awareness of the health holiday, and to establish community within the theatre community. The inaugural concert marked the New York professional premiere of Stephen Schwartz and John Caird’s Children of Eden, and was performed at the stunning Riverside Cathedral. The following year, the hit musical Pippin was presented starring Rosie O’Donnell, Charles Busch and a return to his Tony Award-winning role by Ben Vereen. A subsequent major regional production and National tour of the same show will take place this year. And finally, in 2005, a critically-acclaimed concert of Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman’s The Secret Garden was performed. This most recent event was listed among the top ten theatre events of the year by Playbill.com and Theatremania.com. All three sold-out concerts have managed to garner International acclaim while raising much-needed funds and awareness for organizations catering to the HIV/AIDS Community. For information on the past World AIDS Day events and eventually the most up-to-date info on this year’s event, you can visit www.WorldAIDSDayConcert.org.

As with last year’s event, the proceeds will be benefiting The Joey DiPaolo AIDS Foundation and Camp TLC (Teens Living with a Challenge), a residential summer camp program for teens living with HIV/AIDS. JDAF was created in 1996 by Carol DiPaolo, and her son Joey. When Joey was four (1984) he was infected with the HIV, (the virus that causes AIDS) from a blood transfusion during open-heart surgery. At age ten, Joey and family attended Camp Sunburst in California. Empowered and motivated by the camp experience both mother and son began public speaking in 1990 bringing AIDS education to parents, faculty, and students throughout the country. After becoming national AIDS spokespersons for several AIDS organizations, Carol and Joey decided to establish The Joey DiPaolo AIDS Foundation (JDAF). This foundation is motivated by compassion and hope for young people who are living with HIV/AIDS. The Centers for Disease Control reports that 51% of all new HIV infections in the U.S. occur in young people under 25, with that statistic in mind, Joey and Carol have provided over 500 AIDS prevention and education programs nationwide. With AIDS a serious global issue, JDAF is extending their Camp TLC program to positive teens living outside the US, in countries devastated by the AIDS pandemic. For more information about JDAF/Camp TLC visit www.jdaf.org.

The Rags Concert will take place on Monday, December 11th at 7PM. Tickets for Rags are currently on sale via www.ticketmaster.com, in person at the Nokia Theatre box office or by phone at (212) 307-7171. Sponsor tickets including invitations to the after party and autographed show posters are available by contacting RagsConcert@aol.com or by calling 347-431-9102. Currently seeking Private, Corporate and Media sponsorships.

Support the cast recording NOW

As most of you have read in previous posts, the official word from Sir Elton's management is that there are "no plans" to release the "Lestat" original Broadway cast recording "at present."
Some of us aren't content with that. The number of inquiries about it that I've gotten at Hugh's site show there's interest and a potential niche market.
So supporters of the show and the cast are banding together for a campaign for a release. Please join us...and please spread the word!

Did you all see this on broadwayworld.com and on Elton John's website? It quotes Elton's website, saying "We have received many messages asking when the Lestat cast album will be released. According to Elton's mangement, there are no plans to release the album at present." The cast album, which was recorded on May 22 by Mercury Records, was originally announced for a July release. It says to visit www.eltonjohn.com for more information, but there isn't any.

CLOSING DAY

I'm so sad; I never got to see the show! Hoping to get that OCR. Just wondering how long this community will stay up after tomorrow. There's some great stuff posted in here. Thanks for all the updates from those of us that live too far away or are too poor to fly to the coasts.
I REALLY wanted this show to go on the road...
