Chinese opera version of Les Misérables
This sounds really interesting. I'd love to see how they tackle it.

Les Miserables Localized Into Beijing Opera

Editorial Summary
The National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts (NACTA) will perform a Beijing opera based on Victor Hugo's classic Les Miserables in Shanghai from May 1 to May 7, Shanghai Youth Daily reports. NACTA principle Du Changsheng said that they will adopt traditional Beijing opera costumes to perform Les Miserables. Du said that NACTA had adapted other world literature classics into Beijing opera, such as King Lear and Othello.

Does anyone on this comm happen to read/speak Chinese and could find pictures on the site? I can't tell, but I've clicked around a bit. The "English" link didn't work for me. (Nothing changed.)

My Chinese isn't exactly the best but I don't think the site has any pictures for their Les Mis production. From the looks of it it hasn't been updated since 2003 either, so I doubt there's anything there.

I can't find any photo on this website either, but I've seen some pictures taken by audience. Can't find those pics for now,but I can say it would be a bit weird.

Before Shanghai, they put on the Beijing opera version in Beijing first, and it's even broadcast on TV. Unfortunately I didn't catch it.
