Charlene, the Badgers' violinist, says:

Badgers are about 50% through the the process of making our new album. We've been working w/ top producer/engineer David Bianco (Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Tift Merritt, Blues Traveler) and he's starting to mix all the songs now. We're really excited about the new album...it's been a long time coming to get something really solid and well recorded out there that we're all proud of.
I know we're all excited around here for the new album, while still loving the classic first!

For our first Garden Party feature, we choose to film one of our favorite Los Angeles bands, Leslie and the Badgers. We met up with them on Sunday in Griffith Park and they sang us a number of tunes including "Salvation", "Don Juan", "Silly" (Deneice Williams cover) and their new song "Los Angeles" ( I do believe this is a World Premiere, folks). The Badgers have a West Coast tour coming up in July that will take them to San Francisco, Reno, Salt Lake City and more. I seriously recommend you check 'em out if they are coming through your town. These guys are the real deal. A special thanks to our director Rafael Pulido and Abby Fuller for their help!

Four videos, five badgers, and a hillside: recipe for musical delight!

Leslie and the Badgers, who you all know and love, will be on the FX (not FOX!) program The Riches, featuring Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard, this evening. They will be the band in a truck-stop bar in one scene, performing the song "Old Timers", the sweetest song I have ever heard, the song I want to be the last song I ever hear in this life.

"Look for Leslie's fluffed up hair," the Badgers say.

If you don't at least make an effort to see them tonight you're a fool. And I pity the fool that doesn't make an effort!

Robert

From the mailing list:

For those of you who follow TV we will be the band in the truck stop bar on "The Riches" with Minnie Driver and Eddie Izzard on APRIL 15th. That's on FX.

Look for Leslie's fluffed up hair. We'll be playing "Old Timers" to a couple booths of loyal southern beer guzzlers.

Kristy Kruger is on a fifty-State tour to see the country for which her brother died in Iraq in November,
and to commemorate him, with fifty percent of the proceeds going to his widow and children and fifty percent going to fund the tour.

Best of all, her music is good.

Too bad venue lighting almost never is.

As you all know, Leslie is playing with her on this leg of the tour.
So far they've done nine States together.

I feel as if I'm writing a A Softer World strip.

And then everybody died.

From the Badgers' MySpace:

Owen Land has asked us to play a song live in his new movie.

(And all we gotta do is act naturally!)

We are shining up our nicest boots and powdering our powdered wigs, because this may be the only chance we get to be on the silver screen.

(Leslie is writing some music for it, too.)

Air Force One
It amazes to still
they're playing cards on board
and signing dollar bills
there's insignia scattered
on the pockets in the air
pilots amazed
by what's left up there

They're doing what they do
Making what they might
Writing all their wrongs
and wronging all your rights
Tearing seams to a patched up heart
and they say they didnt mean what they meant at the start

You want to find the virgin
First you've got to test the witch
It's all here the urges
Of the priest who get the itch

One for evolution
One intelligent design
If the answers are among us
Go and find what you can find

They're doing what they do
Making what they might
Writing all their wrongs
And wronging all your rights
Tearing seams to a patched up heart
And they say they didnt mean what they meant at the start

Does it take little more than books to know
There's no dark lord policing from below
Scared under half light Doctors can show
Were all getting up with the WTO

They're doing what they do
They're doing it to you
Well they tear you to pieces....

Yeah they do….

Yesterday Ghost was kind enough to provide this update on the upcoming Badgers album:

We have been recording in August, finished up early September, and are ready to start mixing at another facility. Guitars galore, piano, pedal steel, tamborine, and even SLEIGH BELLS!!!

Lightning Girl Liz, our back-up singer, is amazing, and really blends well with Leslie the Bee Charmer (I started calling her that because her voice could charm the mean right off 'em).

We did 6 songs, and then Leslie and I went in and recorded a track called "Food Of Love", by ourselves.

It's coming along, and the raw tracks sound good--can't wait to start massaging it all into place.

We're almost done with "The Torture", "My Tears Are Wasted On You", and "Food Of Love".

Still to mix:

Air Force One
Shoulder To Cry On
Salvation
The Desert's Kind
Thanks, Ghost!

Beautiful gig by beautiful musicians.
I continue to marvel over the amazing songwriting, playing, and singing.

A Badgers gig is a rare treat, like the oldest of bottles of wine.

Welcome to the cozy living room of LJ's first Leslie and the Badgers community. This community exists to discuss, support, and promote the music of Leslie Stevens and her Badgers. Leslie, as you may know, was from 2002 to 2006 the rhythm guitarist of Zeitgeist Auto Parts. In 2006 she went solo, to pursue her vision of a totally different kind of project. Meet the Badgers.
