The Official Community for the Leroux Fan-comic That Is As Of Yet Without A Catchy Name!
1. So what the crap is this place, anyway?
This is a community for whoever is interested in making a fan-created comic adaptation of Gaston Leroux's novel The Phantom of the Opera.
2. Hold up...what?
Basically, I (your Pimp!Mod
3. How will this work with a bunch of different artists?
Basically, we'll have a different person doing each chapter. Once enough people actually join the community, I'll start taking applications. Once you're approved and I (or my co-mod, hint hint I NEED ONE) assign you a chapter, it's go time. As you get the pages done and scan them and e-mail them to me, I'll clean them up on Paint Shop Pro and save them onto my computer. Once I have your whole chapter, I'll post it on the comic's website (which I haven't made yet, but I will) and eventually the whole story will be up there, and, if I still have my sanity when it's all done, I'll make hard copies and you can buy them (I'd give 'em away, but, you know, photocopying ain't cheap.)
4. Ugh, sounds like hard work. What if I don't want to make a whole chapter?
If you don't have the insane amounts of time it takes to make a comic (or if you're like me and you'd rather just make doodles of insane costumes), we will take your illustrations, character sketches, or other art, as long as it's based on Leroux and reflects your own art style. Who knows--this whole thing could end up just being one big artbook!
5. So, how do I apply?
The application is a little complicated, but I just want to get a feeling for your style and who you are.
The Application
Name (real name, nickname, or pretentious artist name):
Location (state/province will suffice):
Have you actually read Leroux's book?
Favorite bands (this has nothing to do with anything, I just want to know):
Favorite comic or artist:
How do you feel about Raoul?
Do you ever get late-night cravings for Taco Bell?
Are you a member of
And now for the really important stuff:
Please submit a few drawings to show off your style. We want:
- A character sketch of Christine
- A character sketch of Erik
- A concept sketch of what a page of your comic might look like (kinda like this)
A drawing totally unrelated to Phantom that you've done that you really like
AND PLEASE, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD, PUT ALL THIS UNDER AN LJ-CUT! IF YOU DON'T I WILL GO BATSH*T CRAZY LIKE GARY BUSEY AND KILL YOU!!
(I'm sorry. I know the all-caps are annoying, but I just wanted to make a point.)
6. This all seems a little ambiguous. What exactly do you want from us?
Okay, here comes bitch time. I'm sorry, I'll try to get it over with as soon as possible. Obviously, you have to know (i.e. READ) Leroux. No ALW, no Kay, none of that. We're talking straight-up old-school Phantom here. As far as art goes, I'm looking for things that are nontraditional, off-the-wall, stylish, and a little spooky. Things you don't see everyday. I'll even take anime/manga-style if it's good and different enough (
