Hier zijn een paar foto's van Harajuku en wat meer foto's van de tempel Meiji Jingu. Harajuku is een wijk (stad) in vlak bij de binnenstad van Tokyo. Het is vooral bekend vanwege de Meiji Jingu en op zondag staan er nogal veel gothic-lolita mensen in het park. Helaas was ik er op een zaterdag, dus ik heb de gothic-lolita jongeren (en andere vage hangjongeren) gemist, maar als ik er nog een keer heen ga op een zondag zal ik foto's maken. ^^

Meiji Jingu is een vrij grote tempel, die heel druk is op bepaalde feestdagen. Ik wilde er eigenlijk heen gaan op Shichi-go-san (feest voor kinderen), maar dat is op 15 november, en dan zit ik bij mijn host family, dus dat gaat niet. Maar ik hoop wel dat ze me meenemen naar een tempel, zodat ik schattige kindjes in kimono kan zien. ^^ Ik heb er ook drie, vier trouwerijen gezien, en ze hadden iets van Thank You Dolls, en ik weet nog steeds niet wat die Thank You Dolls zijn. Dus... foto tijd.

Here are a few pictures of Harajuku and a few more pictures of the shrine Meiji Jingu. Harajuku is a district (city) close to the inner city of Tokyo. It's mostly known for the Meiji Jingu and there are a lot of gothic-lolitas in the park on a Sunday. Unfortunately, I was there on a Saturday, so I saw no gothic-lolitas (or other odd people), but I'll go there again on a Sunday and take pictures. ^^

Meiji Jingu is quite a big shrine, which is very busy on certain holidays. I wanted to go there on Shichi-go-san (special day for children), but that's on 15 November, and that's when I'll be with my host family, so that's not possible. But I hope they'll take me to a shrine, so I can see cute kids in kimono. ^^ I also saw there some three, four marriages and they had something of Thank You Dolls, and I still don't know what Thank You Dolls are. So... picture time.


Het station van Harajuku. Het is lang niet zo druk als bij Shinjuku, maar het is wel aardig druk. Dit was ook genomen van een brug die over de straat ging. Dat hebben ze best wel vaak hier, trouwens, bruggen over straten. Wel slim idee, scheelt weer met wachten voor stoplichten.
The station of Harajuku. It's not quite as busy as Shinjuku, but still quite busy. This was taking from a bridge over the street. They do that a lot here, by the way, building bridges over streets. Smart idea as well, saves time with waiting for traffic lights.


Dit is een plein waar heel veel mensen stonden die vage producten verkopen. Volgens mij staan hier ook zondag's de gothic-lolita's, maar dat weet ik niet zeker...

Dit is een foto van het park waar je doorheen moet lopen om bij de tempel te komen. Het was best mooi, maar heel druk. Toch lekker op een bankje daar gezeten om van mijn zelf-gemaakte Japanse bento (lunch) te eten. ^^ De visburger was lekker, maar koude rijst is iets minder. De mayonnaise was ook goed. ;)
This is a picture from the park you have to walk to if you want to get to the shrine. It's quite beautiful, but very busy. Still sat down on a bench there to eat my home-made Japanese bento (lunch). ^^ The fishburger was good, but cold rice is somewhat less tasty. The mayonnaise was quite good too. ;)


Een brug die in het park was. Er was nauwelijks een riviertje eronder, maar misschien dat het meer een rivier is in de winter. Je weet wel, als het echt gaat regenen enzo. Het was toen - en is nu nog steeds - aardig nazomer weer. Weinig regen, veel zon, warme temperaturen...
A bridge in the park. There was hardly a river running under it, though maybe it's more of a river when it's winter. You know, when it starts to rain and all of that. It was - and still is - lovely aftersummer weather. No rain, lots of sun, warm temperatures...


Dit stond vlak voor de ingang naar de tempel, als ik het me nog goed kan herinneren. Ik weet niet zeker meer of dit nu voor de torii stond of na de torii. Ik heb ook geen flauw idee wat het moet zijn, maar het zag er wel grappig uit. Dit stond aan de ene kant. De foto hieronder laat zien wat aan de andere kant stond.
This stood right before the entrance of the shrine, if I remember correctly. I'm not quite sure if it was before the torii or right after the torii. I have also no idea what it's supposed to be, but it looked kind of funny. This stood to one side. The picture below will show you what was on the other side.


Dit stond er dus aan de andere kant. Ook hier geen idee wat het moet voorstellen, maar het is wel grappig. En indrukwekkend.

Dit is de torii - en de ingang - van de Meiji Jingu. Hij was gigantisch groot, en volgens mij een van de grootste torii in Tokyo. Het was lastig om er een goede foto van te maken, maar ik ben best wel blij met deze.
This is the torii - and the entrance - to the Meiji Jingu. It was huge, and I think it's one of the biggest torii in Tokyo. It was difficult to get a good picture of it, but I'm quite happy with this one.


Dit is waar je jezelf reinigt voor je de tempel binnen gaat. Handen eerst, dan een beetje in je mond en weer uitspugen. Klaar ben je met reinigen. Ik heb het zelf ook gedaan, maar het is lastig foto te nemen als je alleen bent en je handen zitten vol met water. ;)
This is the place where you clean yourself before you enter the shrine. Hands first, then a bit in your mouth and spit it out again. And you're done with the whole cleaning. I did it as well, but it's hard taking a picture of yourself when you are alone and your hands are covered with water. ;)


Ik moest gewoon. Echte Shinto priesters met ... tempelmeisjes erachter? Ik weet niet wat die twee meisjes zijn. Dit was het begin van een hele trouwerij-stoet. Heel stiekem genomen, maar vind em nog steeds heel geweldig.
I just had to take this one. Real Shinto priests with... shrine maidens behind them? I don't know what those two girls are. This was the start of a whole wedding mass. Took it quite sneakily, but I still love it.


Het eerste plein van de tempel. Hier stonden ook (aan een zijkant) de Thank You Dolls. Je kan ze nu niet zien, want die zitten net heel erg ver aan de linkerkant.

Dit is de beste foto die ik heb van dichtbij. Mooi met ook die banner er bij. Wat daar op staat lees je als "Oningyousan arigatou", wat dus "Thanks Dolls" of "Thank You Dolls" betekent. Dit waren dan traditionele Japanse poppen, maar ze hadden er ook Hello Kitty's, Winnie de Pooh, barbies en dat soort poppen staan. Maar dit vond ik zelf toch wel het mooiste.
This is the best picture I have from close up. I think it's nice with the banner and all. Written on the banner is read as "Oningyousan arigatou", what "Thanks Dolls" or "Thank You Dolls" mean. These were traditional Japanese dolls, but they also had Hello Kitty, Winnie the Pooh, barbies and that kind of dolls. But I think this is the most beautiful.


Weer een poort. Deze vond ik mooi vanwege die witte vlekjes. Geeft wel een apart gezicht. ^^ Probleem alleen wel met tempels is dat ze zoveel poorten hebben...
This is another gate. I liked this one because of the white spots. The effect is rather unusual. ^^ The only problem with shrines is that they have so many gates...


Een boompje dat blijkbaar speciaal is... het stond op een verhoging waar je niet zomaar bij mocht komen. Dat witte papier was dacht ik in elk geval een heilige strip ofzo. Maar weet het niet zeker.
A tree that's apparently special... it stood at least on a veranda where you weren't allowed to go to. And that white paper was I think a holy strip or something. But I'm not sure.


Wit met rood vlekje en het is geen vliegenzwam. =P Miko die snel ergens heen moest om wat te regelen. Er liepen hier wel aardig wat miko's rond. Dit was ook op een pleintje waar je omikuji kon trekken en geluksamuletten kon kopen.
White with red spot and it's not a mushroom. =P A miko who quickly had to go somewhere to arrange things. There were quite a few mikos in that shrine. This was also the place where you could get an omikuji or buy good luck charms.





Nederlands
Hier volgen een paar foto's van Tokyo Dome City en Koishikawa-Korakuen. Er zijn niet veel foto's van Tokyo Dome City, want er viel niet veel van te maken. Maar ik heb in elk geval geprobeerd de achtbaan goed op de foto te krijgen, zodat iedereen kan zien hoe hoog die was. En denk eraan: Ik ben er wel in geweest. Met Irene.

Het was makkelijker foto's te maken van Korakuen. Het is altijd makkelijk om foto's te maken van tuinen. ^^ Zoveel groen en mooie dingen... Heb er eigenlijk verder niet zo heel veel over te vertellen, want ik weet niet echt wat er bijzonder is aan Korakuen (geschiedenis dan), dus... foto-tijd weer.

Here are a few pictures of Tokyo Dome City and Koishikawa-Korakuen. There aren't a lot of pictures from Tokyo Dome City, because there just wasn't a lot I could take a picture from. But I tried to get the roller coaster on a picture, so that everyone can see how high it was. And remember: I have been on it. With Irene.

It was easier to take pictures of Korakuen. It's always easier to take pictures of gardens. ^^ So much green and beautiful things... I have actually not much to say about it, because I don't know what is special about Korakuen (history-wise), so... picture time again.



De achtbaan en het reuzenrad. We gingen dus eigenlijk voor het reuzenrad, want je wil niet weten hoe mooi het uitzicht is van zo hoog. Okee, je ziet voornamelijk gebouwen, maar dan nog... je kan echt gigantisch ver kijken. Het zou mij ook niets verbazen als je op een mooie dag vanaf het hoogste punt Mount Fuji kan zien. (Maar Mount Fuji van dichtbij blijft veel mooier. =P)
The roller coaster and the ferris wheel. We went for the ferris wheel, because you don't want to know how beautiful the view is from that height. Alright, you see mostly buildings, but still... You can really look very far from there. It wouldn't surprise me if on a clear day you could see Mount Fuji from the highest point. (Though Mount Fuji is still more beautiful from up close. =P)


Een van de vele pogingen om de achtbaan op de foto te krijgen. Hij was niet echt gelukt, maar... hopelijk geeft het een beetje een goed idee van hoe hoog (en eng) hij was. ;)

De achtbaan had ook nogal de neiging om door gebouwen heen te gaan. Als je het hoort lijkt het niet zo heel eng, tot je in die achtbaan zit en je racet er met een noodvaart op zo'n gat af. Dan lijkt het gat toch wel opeens heel erg klein. XD
The roller coaster also had this habit of going through buildings. If you hear about it, it doesn't seem scary at all until you are sitting in the car and you're racing at a very high speed at one of those holes. The hole seems suddenly a whole lot smaller. XD


Een foto van Tokyo Dome zelf, de grote arena voor honkbal en optredens. Deze is eigenlijk genomen vanaf Korakuen. Ik stond hier echt bij de achterkant van Korakuen... en de achterkant van Tokyo Dome zoals je kan zien.
A picture of Tokyo Dome itself, the big arena for baseball and performances. This was actually taken from Korakuen. I stood at the end of Korakuen... and at the back exit of Tokyo Dome as you can see.


En welkom bij het echte Korakuen. ^^ Ik denk niet dat ik veel boeiende dingen te zeggen heb bij veel foto's, want het zijn allemaal planten, bomen, stenen en vijvers... Daar is gewoon weinig over te zeggen. Daar kan je alleen naar kijken.
And welcome to the real Korakuen. ^^ I don't think I'll have much to say at the next few pictures, because it's all plants, trees, stones and lakes... You just can't tell much about that. You can only look at it.


Een groot veld met lelie-bladeren. Lelies zelf heb ik niet kunnen vinden...

Een aparte, maar mooie boom. Het leek bijna wel een waterval van takken en blaadjes. Vond ik. =P Of een soort berg.
An odd, but nice tree. It almost seemed like a watefall of trees and leaves. Or so I thought. =P Or maybe a kind of mountain.


Besteed geen aandacht aan mijn vis-obsessie... Ik probeerde van deze vissen een mooie foto te krijgen en dat wilde maar niet echt lukken. @@; Ze deden niet wat ik wilde. =(
Pay no attention to my fish-obsession. I tried to get a good shot of these fish and it just didn't want to succeed. @@; They weren't doing what I wanted. =(

De vijver. ^^ Daar heb ik best wel wat mooie foto's van kunnen maken, maar om ze allemaal hier op te zetten wordt zo eentonig. Ze staan allemaal wel op Photobucket.
The lake. ^^ I took quite a few good shots from it, but to put them all up here would be rather boring. They are all on Photobucket, though.


Nog eentje van de vijver... vond deze ook heel erg mooi. ^^

Voor nog meer foto's kun je kijken op: mijn Photobucket. Ik hou het er hier even op. Het is al na 12 uur en... zo met foto's werken is vermoeiender dan je denkt. Ik probeer morgen Mount Fuji en de BBQ er op te zetten, want zondag ga ik naar Nikko en ik wil dan eigenlijk alles met foto's toch wel gedaan hebben. Het stapelt anders zo op. Ik moet minder lui zijn.
