The Mickathon
I did wonder about putting this up without asking how many people wanted to take part, but...hey. XD

The Mickey Smith Ficathon: AKA the Mickathon

Doing the Mickey Fic Masterlist made me realise how little Mickey fic there is. Especially on the slash front. So I thought a ficathon might be a good idea, 'cos every character needs a ficathon.

Er...probably, anyway.



Timeline
Jan. 16th- Signups begin
Jan. 31th- Signups end
February 2nd- Assignments sent out by this date
April 5th- Stories due

Rules

1. All fics must feature Mickey as a main character. Rose, a Doctor, Jack, or indeed anybody else can also show up, of course.

2. On April 4th I'll set up the Ficathon Masterlist- on April 5th you need to post your story and link to it in the comments. :)

3. Fics will probably be added to the Mickey Fic Masterlist as well- but if you'd rather it wasn't on there, just give the word

4. If you either need an extension or want to drop out, email me (or leave a comment in my LJ- somewhere where I'll see it. ;) )

5. All ratings, genres, and pairings welcome- gen, het, slash, whatever. :)

6. 1000 words minimum, no maximum.

7. You can post your finished fics anywhere you like- here, another com, your own LJ (most people do this), ff.net, anywhere. Just make sure you link to them in the ficathon masterlist post. :)

Is there a minimum word count?

Also, can I just curse you for a moment for proposing a ficathon? I always promise myself that I'm never going to another ficathon because I always wait until the last minute to write and drive myself crazy. And then someone comes along and tempts me again. I'm going to have to do some serious thinking about this.

Most ficathons run with 1000 words - 1500 seems a wee bit high in terms of getting compliance. Just an idea from what I've observed.

I'm thinking hard about what I want to sign up for!

Y'know what, I usually hate having anything i've done anywhere, but I actually rather like this idea. It's s shamke theres so little mickey-fic...

rating you want to write: I cannot write anything horribly explicit. I'd say PG13 as an upper limit.
would you be willing to write backup?: I would say, get in touch and see. I'm willing if I don't have a hundred and one other writing/drawing projects on at the time. Also I don't check that email every day, but i do look at eljay most days, so thats the more likely way to contact me.

up to three things you want in your story: at least a little bit of adventure; if you could work in UNIT in some way that would be excellent but not required; basically whatever you think of that would result in a fun, exciting, possibly scary (I like some thrills) story about Mickey and not just the people around him or the relationships he's in.

up to three things you don't want: Mickey slash (other slash/femslash pairings as background are fine and cool), Mickey as either a useless lump or a total action hero!Mary Sue; angst (yes, Rose chose to go with the Doctor and not you, we all know that, let's have something else please!)

Aw crap. Can't resist a ficathon. And Mickey is just so entirely blah in my mind, I feel it would be bracing for me to write him. (Retarded, I know, and no disrespect to him as character or actor: that's the whole point of the ficathon, right?)

up to three things you want in your story: Jack would be cool. An encounter with a past Doctor, former companion, or old Whovian enemy would be great, if you can manage it. An exploration of Mickey's feelings at being the guy left behind, in somewhat more depth than we saw on the screen, could be really interesting, too; there's surely more going on there than just missing Rose and being jealous of the Doctor. (Feel free to use any one of those things, or any combination of the three.)
rating you want to read: Don't care, though I'd rather not read pure smut-for-smut's sake.
up to three things you wouldn't mind writing about: Angst. Comedy. References to past Doctors and original-series continuity.
up to three things you don't want to write: Weird, non-canonical pairings like Mickey/Jackie. I don't mind writing about relationships, but I so don't want to write them sleeping together. And, actually, I think I'd rather not write smut for Mickey at all.
rating you want to write: I'll write whatever the story needs, but, as above, would prefer not to be asked for out-and-out porn.

up to three things you want in your story: Mickey travelling in the TARDIS. An AU branching off from canon or Five Things would be excellent. Mickey/Ten would be marvellous - doesn't have to be slash, I'm happy with any sort of friendly interaction.
