[Sep. 4th, 2008|03:58 pm] |
Fucking grad school with its fucking reading and its fucking words that I've never ever heard of and will fucking never hear again.
This is why I don't want to focus on literature. Literature specialists like to pull words from the fucking ether. I had no problem with my Chinese Politics readings (at least they were interesting), but these Japanese Literature, Criticism, and Theory readings are murdering me.
GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!

During a lunchtime discussion on the relative merits of the Kalashnikov and AR-15, one of my coworkers said "The Kalashnikov was designed to be operated by an illiterate peasant, suffering from bilateral frostbite and a wicked hangover."

| Notes from moving |
[Sep. 4th, 2008|11:25 am] |
1) Don't do it. 2) Rid yourself of all material possessions. I dropped three bags of clothes and a small fortune in books at Salvation Army last night. It still wasn't enough. 2a) Those college textbooks you held onto because you liked the class and thought they'd be useful in the future. They aren't. Get rid of them as soon as you pass the class. 3) Only take up hobbies such as miniatures, building ships in bottles. Do not get into biking (4 bikes, tools, parts, clothes) 3a) Does anyone want a 17" Stumpjumper hardtail? The components are in a sad state but the frame is good. I'm going to see if I can get any money for it off BustedSpoke but otherwise it's up for grabs. Sorry KT. 4) Someone was going to give me $200 for my desk but I broke the hutch trying to move it by myself AGAIN when the person didn't show or call. Large desks shouldn't be made out of sawdust and glue. 4a) Semi-toxic bonfire anyone? |

That MYSTERIOUS ALMOST-CRYTPIC MEME that I got from cmeaka. o/1. There are 30 questions. 2. Next to each number, write only the name of the person who fits. 3. Answer one question with one name. (Although I'll probably break this rule a lot.) 4. Don't tell the questions to anyone who isn't doing the meme. And here... we... GO.
( And I told Batman - I ORDERED Batman to help Superman out because Superman - that guy was being attacked by a possessed Spiderman. )
Also I thought it'd be best to say this although I think I've said it before and it's sorta a given but... with the way things are, I don't get much time for myself, so if you've noticed, I haven't been replying to comments as much (or as fast - week-old replies, what) as I used to. I must admit I find myself skimming my friends page sometimes... that doesn't mean I care any less about you guys. I still read every single comment, too. So... yeah. Much as I try, I can't do my weird compulsive I-will-reply-to-every-single-comment-left thing forever, but I still appreciate each and every one. ♥ |

| Care Packages and Epic Fail |
[Sep. 3rd, 2008|08:29 pm] |

| | sad | ] | So today the package that my mom sent like 2 weeks ago arrived, with a couple Ikea pots, clothes and shit I didn't ask for (thanks mom :P), a copy of Apollo Justice (how did she know? o.O), and Luna bars. And a stitch ripper that I had requested to take the annoying "life is good" patch off of my hat.
So I spent over three hours playing with the hat because I noticed after I'd already ripped at it that the actual embroidery went into the hat itself, not just the patch. But it was too late to just let it be. In the end, I'm left with a fuzzy bunch of thread coming out the front of the hat now. If I had an embroidery set I'd make a new patch, but I don't so it'll have to just stay like that for now.
That avenue exhausted, I approached the pots...and they are apparently some assembly required. Assembly involving a screwdriver, which I do not possess. However, the concept of *noodles* and *warm food* and NOODLES was just too much to resist, so I tried to screw the parts together by hand--and the result was that I snapped the plastic lid right off, and gouged a slit in my hand in the process. I don't even think I have any neosporin, and I definitely don't have any way of fixing the pot. Ugh. I think I'm still really tired and worn out, because for some reason this thing that shouldn't really be a big deal has managed to totally tear me apart. All I can really bring myself to do is stare at the blood oozing from my palm and cry. It's stupid.
I just feel like such a sack of fail.
Tonight is not my night, I guess. |

a straight A student who I've(and the rest of the school) admired since the first day of college spoke to me today. Even though he only asked me a simple, normal question about our coming exams, I felt so happy I THINK I gave him the wrong information...
I feel like the main character in these Korean Dramas where I close my eyes with my hands and grin stupidly as I shout to that person "I-I'LL GET GRADES AS GOOD AS YOU ONE DAY!", then the sun sets to cast a romantic glow everywhere, and I open my eyes to see that person gives me a thumbs-up or something and shouts back "JUST BELIEVE IN YOURSELF WHO BELIEVE IN ME WHO BELIEVE IN YOU!" ... Then I come home from school, eat overcooked plain white rice with shreds of uncooked sea weeds and thinks, 'my imagination is pathetic... I want to shoot myself.'
*
I look forward to meeting KaiShun and Onion tomorrow~ I know that I shouldn't dwell too much with my old friends and make new ones instead... but screw the world, we've played pokemon together since primary 6. I'm not giving any of them up so long that they still remember me. |

T just saw this commercial about how it is fine to drink and eat corn syrup because "it has no artificial ingredients". Nobody gives a fuck if it eventually gives you diabetes and poor dental health among other things. I got very close to ruining my health and especially dental health by drinking soda. I was blissfully unaware for like 5 years or so. I WISH I COULD SUE THESE FUCKERS and send their sweet surprise to ethanol. The only fucking way it is healthy for you if it comes out the other end of the tail pipe!

ran a 7:15 mile yesterday, pretty good for me. maxed out this morning with 11 chin-ups, 225lb squat, 130lb bench.
Dad says the postcard from Millionaire came: "Sorry, 'you have not been selected to be a potential contestant.' I guess you'll have to earn your fortune the old fashioned way."
I'd figured Millionaire was improbable; I don't think my interviewer liked me so much. But there's still Jeopardy! And the online test for College J! is in a month.
Already I am swamped with work and other activities. |

| | hopeful | ] | On sunday night I started my sourdough starter by the recipe of "wild fermentation" (i do think the book is as exciting as it sound) this being my first time of ever fermenting anything of course i dont really know much. I mixed my plain flour with my water and the water of some cooked potatoes as i heard yeasties like that especially, in a ratio of 1/1 i took some plain white cotton and put that overtop, since i dont have any cheesecloth. then i waited. by the next morning the flour sunk down to the bottom and the top liquid looked kinda brownish, like the recipe said it would, so far so good. on tuesday morning I found thick (about an inch) frothy layer on top of my mixture! I got really excited about this, since it shouldnt have happened quite that soon. excitedly i gave my starter its first feeding after stirring vigourously, existing from a table spoon of flour. when I came home everything looked just fine, the thick frothy layer was still very apparent, by the time night had come the dark liquid floated on top once more and my thick frothy layer had dissapeared.\ When i woke up this morning there was still no froth, after reading up online i bit i decided to feed it once more, hoping to return the activity, but when i came home a few hours later there was still nothing to be seen.
after alot of googeling i now found out that the first froth i saw was not, as i thought, yeast, but rather a different bacteria that masquerades as yeast. yeast could indeed not have entered my mixture so soon, as yeast requires alot more of an acidic environment, which is now indeed present in my mixture. according to the same website i read, as long as i continue to stir vigourously, about 3 times a day, and keep up the feeding it should still turn out ok, so im just hoping for the best here.
and so my fermenting adventures continue. |
