Addendum to the posts on the first 10 letters of the Armenian alphabet (1 & 2)

1. Pronunciation of the letters Ե and Է

Ե when written in the beginning of the word is pronounced 'ye'
Ե in the middle of the word is pronounced 'e' as in 'bed'
Է is always pronounced 'e' as in 'bed'

In modern Armenian the letter Է is used only in the beginning of the word. If you see it in the middle of a word, that means it consists of two basic words, and the second one starts with Է.

2. Some words consisting from the first ten letters of the alphabet:

բզեզ - beetle
բազե - falcon
եզ - ox (pay attention: it is pronounced like 'yez')
էգ - female (in zoological sense, pronounced like 'eg')
թաթ - paw

As an exercise I suggest you find the meanings and the pronunciations of the following words on your own: թագ, գաթա, ազգ, ազդ, գազ, դեզ

1. Произношение букв Ե и Է

Ե в начале слова произносится как 'Е'

В современном армянском буква 'Է' всегда употребляется только в начале слова. Если вы увидите эту букву в середине какого-либо слова, значит это сложное слово, состоящее из двух слов и второе начинается на букву 'Է'.

բզեզ - жук
բազե - сокол
եզ - вол (обратите внимание, произносится как 'ез')
էգ - самка (произносится как 'эг')
թաթ - лапа
