I usually get pretty annoyed when I see people making things out to be way more complicated and difficult than they are, going way over the top in terms of gesticulations in order to give the illusion of competence.

Congratulations to the guy in this video for becoming the new 'best example'.

Curses! This is going to result in a myriad of rubbish youtube videos, showing talentless people pretending to have talent by dancing around like jerks with their fisher price guitars! Nooo!

Although, Rockband instruments will work on it apparently, which is quite cool :)

Tonight's show is a BOMfest special, rounding up the highs and lows of yesterday's festival. There'll be tracks from some of the bands that played and, if I can find the energy (given how knackered/sunburnt/in pain I am), reviews of the performances and cer-azy festival goings on.

    And just like the movies....
Just cos I thought it was fun:

    - Go to musicoutfitters.com http://musicoutfitters.com/
    - Enter the year you graduated from high school in the search function and get the list of 100 most popular songs of that year.
    - Bold the songs you like, strike through the ones you hate and underline your favorites. Do nothing to the ones you don't remember/care about.
(and I also added in a comment here and there.....)

    Top 100 of 2001.... )

Yeeeepers. That certainly takes me back to the days when this was more or less the music on my computer. Cringe.

I've seen 3 great movies in the last week thanks to the Film Festival - Paris, Be Kind, Rewind and Elite Squad. It's hard to say which one is my favourite so far because all of them have been really really good - I guess I'll just take the cop-out diplomatic route and say there were all great in their own ways. Paris was a great movie about a cross-section of Parisian lives; Be Kind, Rewind was not your typical Michel Gondry (one of my heroes) film but it had so much heart and was such a joy to watch; and Elite Squad is inevitably going to be compared to City of God, as it's almost as good - I just think the style of that is a little better than Elite Squad. Hopefully we'll get to see a few more films this week before it ends on Sunday :(.

I also watched After The Wedding on DVD this morning, and that was also a good film - not the best, and certainly not the most uplifting, but it was good. The whole resolution of redemption was slightly overshadowed by the turn of events at the end of the film, and it was a little depressing, but still an interesting watch. I have to say that it was wonderfully acted, in particular the guy who played Jorgen - the 2nd to last scene was really close to home for me and it makes me well up if I just think of it. Not the greatest film but well worth a watch anyway (plus, someone needs to see it and tell me if they thought Anna was 12 when she first appeared on screen. It was weird.)

Another film I watched was The Prestige - I went to get out Batman Begins from Videon to give myself a refresher course before seeing The Dark Knight on Friday (Wooo) and it was sitting next to Batman on the shelf. Anyway I watched that last night and while I thought it was good, I was looking for a little bit more of a twist than was given. I had heard from several places that the twist was great and you can't see it coming, but after watching it it just made me wonder why people had said that. I dunno, I just thought it was obvious when you saw the bloke in the hat and then he's reading the journal in his cell and then Samuel L Jackson comes into town with his own magic show to rival the other two and Brad Pitt was just a figment of his imagination. How did people not see that coming?

I am hating this hypoventilation. I've had it since Friday and it won't go away. GRRRR.

Additionally, anyone who hasn't seen the watchmen trailer yet, it's now officially "out there"

Incidentally, on that website, if you pick an option in the menu then press close, then menu, then close etc.. you can see the various characters standing in different positions. When Rorshach is at the front, his face is totally moving all over the place. Fanboy juices overload!

    So just finished watching the third part of Dr Horribles sing along blog, Joss Whedon's little pet project during the writers strike;

It's classic Whedon - funny, devilishly intelligent dialogue and a blatent disregard for upsetting people!

I was actually converted to Whedon by [info]rubytitania. Before meeting her, i would have probably thought you were daft if you reccomended shows like Buffy and Angel to me. Funnily enough though, i was in a restaurant with some of my very good friends about 1 year ago, and I remember them basically laughing at me because I was trying to convince them that Buffy and Angel are two of the most culturally important movements in our generation. If I'd have said that to me five years ago, I'd probably have laughed at me too.

So, this is the long way of saying... if you haven't already... go and check it out.

    Up yours cancer
My Auntie Marilyn has been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. Turns out she's had it for years and just not known. Kind of explains why she was so poorly in Spain with my mum last week.

We've been told to get up and see her as it probably won't be long.

The extra kick in the teeth? She's in the same hospital and ward where my gran died three years ago. Ouch.

Mum is not coping, but she's hiding it as best she can.

We're okay, so no worrying about us. Not really feeling the urge to talk much about it at the mo to be honest. Would rather go and do something to relieve tension, like paintballing or killing things on the xbox. Shooting things would be good right now.

    Bob Fosko – Sodemieter op!

Bob Fosko – Sodemieter op! (08-033)

    (Mijn favoriete trekkast

(blz. 38)

    So we settled on a name for the cat;

    Princess Ambelina Dax

not my idea :) which when you consider that our other cat is called 'Francisco Morah Catlet', means we have some pretty oddly named cats!

Although, their collars just say 'Amber' and 'Cisco'

Sunday morning, half past seven. Not a time most of us feel at their best. My day had begun two hours earlier even, I had to catch a flight. Breakfast was not available in the hotel, but after check in, after handing in my rental car, I did have some time for a muffin and some orange juice.

And there he was. Wet cloth in his hand, searching for work. The fastest employee I had seen in ages. And proud of his job! Francesco. He made me wake up. He made my day. Just by doing what they had told him to do. Clear away the mess, leave the table clean for the next customer. I didn't dare asking him to pose for a picture, but on my way to the gate, he had to take a detour as well, so luckily I was able to make a snapshot.

James (my cat) is having an extended stay at the vet while they try to figure out what's wrong with him.

    :(

I know it's 'only an animal', and he is old now, but still...

Edit: It's not looking good. Even if he holds on a bit longer, it seems like he's on his way out.

And now the vet is saying they can't find anything specifically wrong with him despite his symptoms and not eating. £300 a night to keep him there and they still can't figure it out?!

    "Yes, I have a husband."

    "Yes, he's really my husband."
    "He lives there with you?"
"Yes, he lives here with me. You probably see him in the garden sometimes. His name is [SO] and he has a mustache and a beard and dark hair."
NG [looking even more confused]: "Oh. Because I thought he lives there [points at neighbor's house] and you live there [points at our house]."
"No, we live together in the same house."
"Oh. Can you bring him out so I can see him?"

    Thursday
It's been a funny old day today. After all the excitement about catching up with our comics, I went up for the new releases today and found that I had a grand total of two titles out this week! Boyfriend did a bit better and got a few things. Had I been getting all the ones I was before the break then I would have had more but I was very restrained. Er, go me.

On the way I back I wandered into Accessorize, just for a look (honestly!), and managed to get a birthday present that has been bugging me for a couple of weeks as I had no real idea what to get and the birthday is next week (one of two!). It's funny how sometimes you just happen to see something that seems to fit the person perfectly.

Frank Verbeek – P.s.

(blz. 69)

Sometimes, just sometimes, I'm grateful for statistics.

Take now, for instance. I'm running analyses on my data and SPSS is producing lots of lovely little graphs that tell me that my project *may* have been worthwhile. Because I conducted all of my research "in the field" the model fit boundaries are a bit lower than if I'd been in the lab. The fact that data collected from a relatively small group of children is conforming to my expectations is hugely satisfying.

    I couldn't do this full-time though!
